WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - SAM WEIDEMAN
Nasher replied to xman97's topic in Melbourne Demons
What do you mean? He looks nothing like Pavlich. -
Cal's comments: Big call from the Demons, who had weighed up and loved Darcy Parish all year. Sam Weideman also came into contention across the season but he may get through to pick seven. Oliver's size and physicality and goalkicking might have given him the edge over Parish in the eyes of the Dees. It's a massive bolt from the blue though. he was overlooked at the championships!

Francis also to the Dons

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CLAYTON OLIVER

Wines!! I mean, Clayton!! I mean, Oliver!! -
Hah. Welcome to the Melbourne Footy Club, pick 4?

I just had a read of the thread at the time - very few were critical of the trade. Most saw it for how it was: a talented player who had lost his way, that filled a need in the side and came very cheaply. I think there's always a chance he'll lose his way again, but hopefully we've got the right leadership at the club to keep him on track. He was awesome this year, I had always thought of him as a bit of a downhill skiier, but his pressure inside 50 was a feature in conjunction with his class use of the ball. Definitely one of the biggest trade bargains I've seen in my lifetime so far.

Agreed. I don't know why people choose to hold grudges anyway. It happened, they're gone now and have no power over us anymore, so why waste emotional energy on maintaining the rage?
-
Yep - one of my sons is exactly the same. In fact, he does everything left handed except hold a cricket bat. I tried to put it in his hand left handed thinking he'd find that more natural, but he always just ended back the other way. He's only little though so perhaps it'll change as he gets more comfortable. Jesse could also be completely ambidextrous and only favours one hand/foot for certain tasks out of habit. My sister is like that, though for sporting it meant she was equally hopeless with both hands.

That is actually pretty relaxing, and a tad hypnotic.

So did anyone make it down for a kick?

Cryptic Message on MFC Social Media - New MFC Logo

My 7 year old son saw that and laughed, and said "Bullet Bill... no, Mel-Bill!" -
Cryptic Message on MFC Social Media - New MFC Logo

I'd totally buy one of those polos. That I look like a bucket of pus in red is the reason I haven't bought one of the exxy polo tops in years. Love it. -
Fail.

Second and third points are rubbish. Even if they were true (which I would contest), they contributed nothing to his dismissal. Daniher had run his race. As you point out, we had an aging list in 2007, a coach who had been in the chair for 10 years, and a poor season. It's almost a textbook dead coach recipe. Combining a list refreshment with a young, fresh teaching coach (Bailey) made sense at the time, even if it looks like it all went to poo in hindsight.

It's an MFC marketing thing organised to include Hogan, Viney and Pearce - definitely an open invite. I reckon it's great and I love who they've chosen; probably the three most marketable players at the club I reckon. I too hope they get a few - would be a great atmosphere. If he just meant a private kick they'd have just texted each other.
-
Viney would clearly be one. If I had to name a captain of the under 22s he'd be it.Hard to believe he's still even in that group. Feels like he's been here for a decade.

Craig Cameron drafted Matthew Warnock, on to the rookie list, and he managed to eke out an 87 game career over 9 seasons. Pretty hard to be critical of that.

Seems risky for Essendon to take a KPF and a tall player who might be a midfielder but hasn't really tested the theory... You'd think they would want a true midfielder with one of those picks. I'd be surprised if they took both Weideman and Curnow. I'm convinced they wanted Parish. They're probably the only club that needs class in the middle more urgently than us. Ahh, top 5 draft pick politics. Good to be back in the game!

Melbourne Football Club Training - November, 2015
Nasher replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yep - if we can avoid having our shiny new prized recruit doing his ACL at training this year, that'd be swell. -
WTF? That is a terrible example, there is no moral grey area there. Possessing child porn is a crime because somebody had to have produced it, thereby exploiting a child. By possessing it, you support and endorse those who exploit children to produce it. A lesser crime than producing it or actually abusing a child, nonetheless a crime and a reprehensible one that will earn you a stack of time behind bars. This topic sucks.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB – JAKE MELKSHAM
Nasher replied to Theo's topic in Melbourne Demons
Melbourne + GWS relationship = Geelong + Adelaide relationship. It's just not getting the same amount of attention because we're two low profile clubs. I also thought Essendon turned over a new leaf this year. St Kilda were this year's trade villains. -
Sorry to say but Sandilands is already on a list.
-
Hard to imagine that every one of those guns played in a wooden spoon side. Also, if I remember rightly, Power debuted in the same year as Black, so he definitely counts as "same generation" as the fab four.
-
Using an example that a) is still not established fact and b) resulted in a disastrous outcome doesn't do much to strengthen your argument. The last time we know for certain that the coach pulled rank on a recruiter was Daniher insisting Craig Cameron take Luke Molan. Another disaster. The coach would have input at best, but just as one voice in the FD. Even then, that voice should be of Goodwin and not Roos - it is the former's team now. Other than that, the chief recruiter should be trusted to be capable of identifying which players present the most value to the club. He's a senior member of the FD, and is paid accordingly, and that is his chief responsibility.
