  1. He totally disregarded and disrespected the thoughts and feelings of the members and supporters in regards to Danihers position. Said he would consider the opinion of everyone associated with the club except the "fickle" supporters and members.

IF he said that, then that is terribly disappointing. I know some die-hard, so-called "fickle" supporters - regulars of the dark period in the '70s and '80s, when there was virtually nothing to look forward to and who still go today - who say that "Daniher has to go".

Supporters need to make their feelings known after the game when the players leave the field by the "few" still attending that what we are witnessing at the club is unacceptable. Then it is hard for him to categorise disgruntled regulars attending in lean times into the "fickle" category, if he indeed say it as stranga helpfully relayed it to us.

  2. He saw the writing on the wall 10 minutes into the game, yet made no tactical changes until half time.

    The mind boggles.

To be fair, I did notice that he took Bell off Brown late in the first quarter and put him up forward. Ward went onto Brown, who somewhat quietened him, but not by too much.

Apart from the pathetic performance from the footballers ball watchers on the field, Daniher got his match-ups wrong and was generally outcoached.

  3. Yesterday, on countless occasions we'd burst out of our defensive 50m and be confronted with Hamish McIntosh and another of the Roos' midfielders across our half-forward line, forcing our rebounding defenders to go short, sideways or backwards. This is greeted with jeers and mumurs of discontent with the un 'football' educated supporters of the mcc and surrounding areas.

    'Kick it long!'

    'stop mucking around'

Dumb supporters. They've got no option to kick to.

    Why kick it a 3 on 1??

I'd rather see us kseep hold of the footy, then kick to the 3 on 1 and watch the defenders have the ball sail over their heads on the rebound.

This is one of my biggest peeves. I have no problem if the ball is kicked sideways or backwards for almost all day, as long as the target is found. I am sick to death of calls for a long kick when the ball is in the backline. The worst thing to do in that position is to kick it long and hope for the best, because as you say that is the best opportunity the opposition has for a turnover and a quick goal It's not just in the MCC but the old red seats as well. The players deserve support when they are playing smart football, not discouragement and consequently encouragement of stupid football.

  4. I have a feeling our culture is turning around.

Our culture won't even start to turn around until we stop patting the players on the back for losing, regardless of effort. We have a definite and long-planted losing culture at MFC.

  5. The trumpet guy was terrific! He really got me going for a game I was going to be utterly indifferent about, considering our season and chances.

The key is for him to only play it about a further four times this year so we don't get sick of it. Surprise us with it once in a while to keep the crowd appreciation on a high.

  6. Yze magic u have got the be the biggest KNOW IT ALL Wan... ever on DEMONLAND ... but here is a newsflash for u , U KNOW NOTHING....

So says the semi-literate. He did not have a go at you, so relax a little.

I am so ashamed of Melbourne. Utterly disappointed. I didn't go to the game and very glad i didnt.

Why didn't you go to the game? Just asking.

What i noticed from the game:

    *No pressure - No tackling

*A very slow team - how danners can ask us to run and carry when we have NO speed

If only ND would drop davey, TJ, Green - who at the end of the day will have to live knowing he was one of 22 who was responsible for our loss on game 150.

You need a lie down, because two of the missing factors, in your very own opinion, would be enhanced by dropping Davey. He needs to stay in the side because he provides all of those things you think are important - pressure, tackling, speed - regardless of his performance. He is having a tough time of it at the moment, but he is still a ball winner in terms of catching opposition players on the run and it will be only a matter of time before he comes good. He does not get enough time in the forward line for my liking, anyway, but that is my passing observation, because I did not sit there with a stop watch and time him.

  7. It's time to give Miller a wake-up call now.

EDIT: Actually, I'm not happy that Yze was dropped. He should not have played in round one now that he has been dropped. One game does not make a player, whether that be a bad game or a good game. It's just a waste that he was played now.

  8. Holland - backline's only winner

    Bruce - a wasted talent

    Johnstone - needed the run

    Davey - arrogant and ineffective

    Miller - was totally ineffective

    Neitz - never stopped trying

    Robertson - brief magical moments

    Johnson - showed some class

    Jones - seemed totally overwhelmed

One view from the old red seats:

    Holland: Our best player

    Bruce: Has he heart?

    Johnstone: Bad office day

    Davey: Conceded unnecessary frees

    Miller: Can he mark?

    Neitz: Missed crucial goals

    Robertson: Lacked the service

    Johnson: Had no idea

    Jones: Pushed too early

You've got most spot on, and many of the ones I have listed complement rather than contradict.

  9. Sad. We had to pay for that!

$15 for full price. I would not be happy if I had to pay that much for what is essentially a game next to no-one is interested in (15,000 attendance). I paid $9 concession to be frustrated at the poor level of umpiring. They're like a whole other team trying to play against you. Nine umpires, and they still only had two on the boundary. Umpires could pay on the full regardless, but not that it matters. There was a mark before the line in the first quarter (by Robertson I think) and it was paid on the full, even though he was right in front of it. Whatever. Someone's laughing all the way to the bank.

  10. Miller's got to start taking the ball in front again, too often he went chest instead of in front.

There was plenty wrong with Miller yesterday, that being the main reason. All he had to do was stick his hands in front of him and he could have taken more than a few marks yesterday, but he failed to do that on several occasions. It's worse being in line with his back since it gives the perception that he is just running, oblivious to the ball coming in his direction. I have not been impressed with him; he simply has not been improving at an acceptable rate. He's always developing and it never ends. He might have to look elsewhere in the future.

I am a fan of Bell and saw him do little wrong yesterday. He should be an important defender this year.

    This game meant nothing

Then why was I devastated at the result? And still am! But I do agree that Hawthorn is not a quality team. The only thing they have going for them is their endless running, which will not get them very far.

  11. Looked like no. Melbourne members don't get that privilege, the ticket lady told me. I didn't see anything on the MFC website to indicate anything of the sort either. I'm sure once upon a time that was the case, but I haven't been attending pre-season games for years. I thought they were meaningless, but after actually attending one after so many years, I was actually as disappointed with losing a match in the NAB cup as I am when we lose in the league.

  12. I've been led to believe about the possibility of getting into today's game with my membership (red seat reserve seat). I know the prices and will pay to watch Melbourne today, but have no idea of the benefit of my membership in relation to pre-season cup games. I really should know already, but there you go. Does anyone know? Thankyou very much in advance!
