  1. It not even a matter of Jeffs work rate..for its pretty good. The lad does try.. and he is effective around the ground. He is simply too short ( beleive it or not ) for the main role now. The rules changed and negated the influence of his great leap. He was obsolete overnight ( in the middle ) . We've struggled ever since. He will have to do next year though. We wont have any solution overnight.

We simply need new ruck stock. jamar and Johnson havent quite met the bar so to speak. Near enough isnt good enough.

So before we worry too much about our ruck coaching...lets actually get some talent in who will be capable and coachable. Horse before cart as it were !! :)

This is why the draft is so important this year.

  2. Lots of people living in glass houses it seems.

whilst I note the sentiment it really doesnt apply. We arent playing at AFL level. We arent expected to maintian our selves in peak physical readiness. We arent expected to uphold the values of a jumper etc etc etc..HEv IS !

No one is really going to care if he has a beer or two...but not too many elite athletes do during their "season" But the point is he is exhibiting very poor life choices which if left unchecked will form the basis of his off field persona....this will impact on the ON field player also.

Again its a simp[le choice....be the player he can be ..OR the couldabeen pisshead !!...plenty of them around in life.

  3. no need to cheat... just wrap up any injured in cotton wool and have them sit out last two games. Play who ever is left.. Its almost beyond being a choice anyway.

Funny thing though...all those people who might label us as Tankers should we lose would be the same to wish their own team lose in a similar situation !!

Id be happy enough if we came away with a better choice of pix. That will have a longer impact on history than one singular extra win at the end of a dead season !!

  4. well.. I suppose I will take the part of the ol' fuddy duddy !!

Get the boy some help. A good mentor. Then he decides what he wants to do with his life... be a champ, the makings of which he definitely has...or be just another has-been pisshead !!!

If he doesnt look like taking the right path.. sorry to say..get rid of him

  5. Youd be cutting off your nose to spite your face not to acknowledge that the offerings having chnaged with Sheedy entering the equation might determine some bending of previous criteria. Though having said that he seems very keen.; still has the fire.

I think it was Brey on other thread ( apologies if not ) that brought up the idea of Connolly possibly complementing Sheeds in the Football Dept's newly vacated mangers spot. This might actually make for an interesting teaming. I wonder if Chris would be up for it.

  6. New coach, New footy manager, New assistants (???), new captain (???)

It is definately the end of an era at the MFC.

Whilst many will hold dear a moments pause for the thanking of those that have participated in Melbourne's glorious recent decade I certainly hope the latter of the above holds true. Its the end of an era..and the start to a more successful one, shame as usual that some that deserved better outcomes wont be amongst it.

  7. What so many seem incapable of is extracting themselves from sentimentality and viewing things in the here and now.

Given the limited scope of any real input by Adem in the coming year ( and in all likely hood his last at Melbourne whichever way you look at it ) why would you go all out to keep him. Forget all the mumbo jumbo ..oh he "WAS" this or that!! What is he now. What does he bring to the game, what value can be placed on his services, what level do you regard them as etc.

Then in this cold hard light make an informed apprasial of 1) where Melbourne is going and 2 ) what is his role in it.

He is at the end of a career. he is half the player he was. You can argue til the cows come home but his performances are there to be scrutinised. In the first half of his career he was great.. in teh middle he started to meander. In latter games he waxed an ained with occasional glimpses of "that " talent. Lately he's a shadow of teh initial persona. Injury and possible indifference have taken its toll. In any team going forward he wont be in our first 22. He is of limited value at present to the club. He is paid by the club. Its a job. A job he cant do at the elite level in a sustained manor any more..

This isnt any personal vendetta etc.. its juts reality. Too often the club is seen as some sort of nefarious football goodtimes extravanganza. Its not..its a business. Its mission is to win games. It does this by employing the best it can to carry out the various tasks. When you cant you move on. Its as simple as that.

People then attach "conditions" to all this..."oh but he was this.. or "but he's given so much etc"...Given ?? no he's paid....They are all PAID !! ( 'cept thearious volunteers etc , but we're talking players , professionals etc )

You have to be a tad brutal in business. No one in sport comes into with any llusions that its a "love-in".. Its competition. The best survive.( well ought to ) to play and compete. Thats all. It really gets no more complex than that.

When the ol' grey mare cant run no more.. its not given another race for ol' time sake. Its retired. The new colts etc take over.

So to my original displeasure with the article and its reproted comments to Yze. Al that ought have been said to Adem in response to his possible asking of any looming delisting is.. ' Youre contracted for 2008 " that's it.. no qualifiers.. no allusions as to reasons, or posible inferred expectations of the club, simply ..you still have a job for now.

Without a payout he wasnt going to be delisted. He had expreseed at various times over his career his preparedness to change clubs. So the club must have known he was still up for a move should push come to shove.

It just seems like this club has no idea about bargaining etc. you dont play trumps that early.

  8. Good luck as you choof off to Hawksville.

I wonder if this may have been prompted by the literal "seeing the writing on the wall"...i.e privy to the process realises he too may not be involved in the prospective incumbents's plans !!

I see nothing untoward in tis ... possibly just a sound and reasoned decision. Pure speculation of course...but would make sense.

  9. He's certainly not worth the trade we might have got for him last time, but he will get something..if even a top up style late 2nd round or thrird round pick. This in turn might be tradable in the great scheme of thimgs etc etcv. His value may not be directly what we get for him but what he may help facilitate.

That and the freeing up of a spot..and the saving of how ever many hundred G he is costing us ! That would be the smart move going forward.. get whatever you can and use it wisely as inverstment in a player who WILL give us more than the likely handful lof efforts we may see out of 13 in 08.

Why did CAC have to say any of that at all..Ooze is contracted to Melb.. if he wanted to to be allowed to be traded all CAC had to say was..whatever !! By saying he is a needed player it infers to me he isnt on teh choipping block.

We havent learnt to be brutal at Melbourne.,other clubs have.. we havent.

  10. oh sorry if I seem a little niggled..

Respect.. lol.. Apparently your unable to critique people is that what you summise ??

We must all tippy toe around.. Well I for one will call a spade a spade. Adem Ooze has been one of the greatest trangressors in NOT living up to his ability. His is not a great team player. he is often lazy and goes for the "heroe " shots when a hand off /pass forward set up would be far more effective !! Some of his efforts are mecurial... many are downright wasteful. He seemed ( and I am far from alone here ) far more concerned wqith the club record at any costs raahter than getting fully fit and honouring his end of the bargain.

He held the club to semi ransom some years back and has hardly been value for dollar since.

If thats disrepectful than quite frankly I couldn't give a rats. He's a professional..He gets paid. He can take the cirique as well as far as Im concerned.

far better player than most?? lol.. thats not altogether a big rap when discussing a team thats effectively failed, with some notable exceptions, for 43 years now is it.

Respect is something earned, not dished out with his oversized pay packet !!

  11. http://www.heraldsun.news.com.au/footy/com...5E19742,00.html

Quite frankly I was going to subtitle this as "When will we ever learn?? "

Here's a great opportunity to reap some divident from his contract...by trading him..hell he would go !!...and we still do the same ol ' dumb things !!

Got nothing peronal against Ooze...wish him well. Wish by christ he'd play decent footy!! His best days are way behind him.. He is now injury prone...and we're gunna keep him !! FFS how dumb can this club get at times.

CAC youve lost me on this.. If this is your idea of sound reasoning and planning going forward then Ive had you wrong all along...sorry mate, this just isnt clever at all !!

Its OK for us to honour his contract but we dont care if he honours his end of the bargain ??? what a joke !!

  12. the problemis no so much wheater's kicking as it is a demon giving him a good target to hit. He cant do both!! he needs someone to kick to and if noone is presenting , making space, quick enough than the kick in gets shut down ( as is case all too often!! ). Given a running target Wheats can make it at 60-65 no probs !!...thats a helll of a start from the back line that goes begging all the time.

  13. if they do there will be protests all round, it just couldn't happen......could it?????

of course they will.. its not an even playing field.. The AFL pander to the whims of those with clout.. So whats new.

What...you think the Wobllie's fixture is luck of the draw !!!!:blink:

  14. the problem with MFC...well one of them. Is we have quite a few players who need to move on ( for the betterment of teh club as a whole ) .Some are simply on the 'other ' side of their best days of their careers. Some just arent going to amount to more than 'adequate' players.

  15. well.. I wouldnt carte blanche endorse this idea that it would have been a Monty should Gods have played. But it might well have been at least half way towards the difference between winning and losing.

Gods is quite acccountable at keeping his target close...something many others in red and blue could learn. He is far from teh worst at hitting a target coming off the half back line ( many will argue against this...but Id like them to show me proof ). He never gives up...you dont see GODS standing around watching others !!

Could have been a very handy player last night.

Still its all supposition , had he been fit he would have played, we'll never know. :)

  16. Its going to very much a time for a BIG spring clean. Forget any aspirations for serious finals next year or even 09. Its time to seriously , well if not rebuild...do some major reno's !! This will require a coach who has done all this before..(successfully ...that means flags ) ..luckily one's available.

As to Walls.. well.. ...many have already done better justice to this fellow...lol

He's not big on realities , let alone facts.

yes Melbourne are having a clearout...he got that right...takes an Einstein doesnt it ?? lol

  17. we need to move heaven and Hell ( for which I thought we had the franchise btw !! lol ) to get an "effective" ruck !! if that means going camping for the next three weeks to secure one of the two young gun rucks than so be it !!

All this talk about midf ileders is irrelevant if we have no ruck to give them first use!!

    Priorites people....priorities :)

    edit:

as afterthought... there's hardly anyone left to play anyway!!

  18. What was evident last night was that Melbourne just need to get back to basics.

No fancy game plans or set plays, just keep things simple.

I just hope that whoever comes in to coach doesn't feel that they have to justify their selection by trying to change things too much.

you're dead right ...and to add to that...we need the basics skills to do that. WE DONT HAVE THEM!!

We constantly turn over the pill

    We cant ruck to advantage

    We cant kick for [censored].

    We hospital handpass

We make very poor decisions about to whom and under what circumstances the bal wil be forwarded.

Needless kicks to unbalanced contestes etc etc etc..

Not just based on last nights game... much can be 'described' as simply being tired last night.

What is wrong with Melbourne ?

We play a [censored] brand of footy....... its as simple as that!!

The incoming coach will need to start from scratch. Keep it simple as alluded in above post.

Once we get that under control we can start building an 'effective' set of game plans and techniques.
