So Luke is clearly a significant upgrade on Harmes and the other two departures

Luke Dunstan career disposal average is 20.91 per game. I think you quoted his averages from this season

  2. Eyes welled up a bit during that last minute of the 3rd... by the time Nibbler kicked his goal in the last had a tear rolling down the cheek... and when the siren blew I sobbed tears of joy that I have never experienced before! Drank a helluva lot before, during and after the game and passed out on the couch around 1am watching the replay on my own after various facetime chats with mates, then woke up hungover as hell at around 6am, put the replay on and cried nearly every time we kicked a goal!! I was an absolute mess!!

  3. Words can't explain how much this means to me. All the pain, all the heartache, the disappointment we've had to endure. The love-hate relationship I've had with this club as a supporter for 30+ years and as a member for the last 15 years, has caused me so much more grief than joy. At our lowest I would often ask myself why I put myself through this. Why do I care so much? Will this ever be rewarding? Well, all of that was worth it... for this moment.

Although bittersweet in that we weren't able to be at the game or even watch it and celebrate the win with friends, this game is still one of the happiest moments in my life. I still can't believe it's happened and I've watched the replay or at least part of it every day since.

It's been almost a decade since I posted on here and probably over 10 years since I was a regular. Still an occasional lurker from time to time and as passionate as ever about the Dees, but family and work-life balance meant I no longer had time and fell out of the habit of posting. And I lost a bit of interest in the team during the Neeld years to be completely honest!

It's been refreshing this year to come on this forum and see the positivity and hope return to the supporters. For so many years this forum was a hotbed of negativity and I love reading thru all the posts recently and seeing just how happy this has made all of us. We are Premiers! The MFC... Premiers!! Still delirious ❤💙🏆

  4. I've only seen him play as a 19 year old, so can you enlighten us what he was like when he was 18 please? I did miss their Round 1 game, but I don't think he was breaking any records in that match.

Nowhere near as good as an 18 year old... In his sole game as an 18yo, he had 8 disposals, 5 marks, no goals. Turned 19 just before round 2, and duly put up 12 disposals, 7 marks, 4 goals. You're onto something.

Seriously though, this Cameron kid is everything we wanted from Jack Watts when we first unveiled him that fateful QB Monday back in '09. Listed at 196cm and 87kg, which is roughly what Jack was playing at in his first year.

Judging him just from the half-dozen or so GWS matches I've seen, I would be very surprised if he turns out to be anything short of 'special'. He certainly has 'it'.

  5. I still remember playing my first game of footy as a kid. I was one of the tallest kids on the team and as such was going to be the ruckman. I was asked what number guernsey I wanted and without hesitation, I asked for #11. You were my first favourite player. Thank you for everything, Jimmy.

Rest In Peace Big Jim. You were a true legend and champion. Gone, but never forgotten.

  6. Didn't he say "I'm excited to go to melbourne as my first club"?? Says it all really

I believe it was something along the lines of "The MFC is a great club to start my career at..."

Gysberts still worries me a bit.

May i ask why? Surely not because he's off the pace with his running/fitness, in his first full pre-season, in December? The Gys is a real talent who plays the game in a way the defies his build.

  7. Oddly, I love watching Zac Dawson play. Not Melbourne of course, but everything he does seems to verge on Slapstick. A classic example occurred late this season when he jumped into a pack to spoil. The ball went straight up in the air. Zac made a few rapid rotations on the spot trying to find it before it came down right on his head. You can't teach comic timing like that.

I remember that... I was watching that game with a mate and talking about how little I rated Zac Dawson, when he said he rated him on a par with Colin Garland (WTF?!) He's not even a Saints supporter so no bias there either... Then that happened. Oh sweet vindication.

  8. Improved again this season, playing more as a traditional wingman/linkman outside runner, utilizing his elite endurance and improved speed. Runs all day and will always put his body on the line. Maybe not the best thinker in traffic or by foot at times, but goes hard all day, week-in week-out, which is more than can be said of the majority of teammates. Another step forward this year for Jonesy, albeit in an easier, outside role. Interested to see whether Neeld uses him the same way DB did this year, or if he returns to more time around the stoppages, rather than a kick outside play.

Oddly enough, when you think about Jones, you think tough, industrious inside worker. But when you look at his year statistically, you see that 2011 was different. He did more outside running, to receive more uncontested possessions, take more uncontested marks, more rebound 50s, more running bounces... etc, and had less contested possessions, less clearances, and laid less tackles, than you would expect.

All the stat areas that were once his strengths were down, and all his perceived weaknesses (the 'outside' game), improved. No doubt he came into the season with a specific new role from DB, and a goal to improve areas that were lacking previously, and that he did. He was no longer a "see ball, get ball" midfielder, but was being taught by Bailey to read the play, run to make position, and provide a link up the field coming out of defense, and present outside options for inside workers Moloney and McKenzie... His disposal efficiency and decision making improved too. He is still prone to the odd 'howler' at times, though fewer and further between now. Unfortunately, his inside role and his defensive ability/mindset suffered a little bit IMO.

Now, I feel Neeld needs to re-train his inside game to get the most of out his other great strengths (besides endurance), toughness at the contest and power/strength. Would like to see his clearance rate, and contested possession and tackle output lift next year if he is to keep improving as a footballer.

  9. I like him. Thought it was real funny in his interview with Beamer how he had to do a double-take (too [censored]!) of the intro, and even funnier that they decided to leave that in and not edit it out.
