Anyone for cricket?
Why are the selectors continuing to play Hussey? Makes no sense at all. I am agreeing with Hogg's article, and i bet my house i am not the only one. There are better cricketers in this country than the selectors are giving credit-now is the time to be Bold not conservative as if we draw a series against the Windie & even lose to the Paki's nobody will ultimately care.

Yes i read that with great interest actually-keep that stuff handy as i am sure people will want to revisit those in years to come. Doesn't change my position on Hogg's article though. Australia's Test side has stagnated, and with the amount of talent in the country there is no reason for it. For the sake of the Long Term Side, i really hope the Windies win the last Test, & the Pakistani's give us a real fright, otherwise the selectors will continue to do nothing. I want to beat those Poms over there in 4 years.....

Anyone for cricket?
Interesting to Read Rodney Hogg's Coment in today's Hun...I totally agree, it is time for Ponting to go as captain/ He is a great Batsmen & fielder but his captaincy record particulairly when fielding is ordinary. In 4 years time i want Australia to win the Ashes over there. Now is the time to start planning, we have the Talent in this country to once again have the Number 1 side on the Planet. Playing a bunch of 35 year olds who will be 39 in for years time is not the answer-enough of the Boys club.... Read the article..Rodney makes some very interesting points.... http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/rodney-h...f-1225808404294

Yes there is an ongoing problem with over rates, going back to the 80's West indies pace attack Granted, But that situation should never deny a team from going for a win in a test match. It's just not Right. The Aussies Winning that game was a long shot, but i will never agree that we should be told to not go for it. Not with 2 hours to go on an old pitch...

I Agree with what you are Saying RR, But i still believe trying to win an away series in India is more important than being suspended for the following Test in Brisbane. Any Fines could have easily been paid by the Australian Public as there would have been "Civil Outrage" (Qick Whip around in every local Pub!!) Remind me-Who did we play in that first Test in Brisbane...New Zealand i think. Personally i would Prefer to try & beat India over there. If Ponting's hands were tied with that decision then it is an ICC digrace i believe...

Sure he was put on the spot, but should he have gone for the win. I say he should have had a crack for 40 odd minutes. If we had broken through, the over rate issue would not have been mentioned. But he Led the Team out after tea with the white flag up. I almost broke a really expensive Radio!!! & i am guessing i was not alone around the country.

No he didn't lose us the match, BUT as Australian Capt. for the first 10-15 overs after tea he should have had a crack at it. That's the Australian way. If the Indians had held firm fair enough. But you gotta have a go, we took 3 quick wickets just before tea as i recall. The door was ajar... Maybe Ponting was under orders, who knows. I still say he should have had that 40 minute crack at it. A.B Tubby Ian Chappell, & S.R. would have...& you know that.

Your opinions and my opinions differ RR, thats all it is. Yes there are around 25 ACB contracts given But only 12 spots on the team, Which is why i was saying a few days back that there should be 3 distinct sides. There is too much cricket on now, because of the size of those contracts they have to be paid for TV and sponsorships. so we have all these "meaningless" Games that are played and forgotten as quickly, right before a Test Series. No i wouldn't have played McGain again, but i certainly would have persisted longer with jason Kreyser.

Selectors have not been busy enough, and when they have selected a new player that player is only given one or two games to settle in. Contracts are worth too much money now, its a problem when there are only 12 spots. With the Amount of money being thrown around in cricket now, we should have at least 20 selectors & scouts covering every state. The Talent is there. BTW when a captain comes out after tea in a test match more concerned about over rates, he is NOT always trying to win. The ACB contracts are too lucrative, yes its a tough schedule but with too much cricket on the incentive to win diminishes. It's Human nature. I have never doubted Punter as a Cricketer, just don't rate him as a captain. Never have....

Pity he didn't captain the same way in india during the lat test series. More worried about over rates and his own wallet than trying to win. But the aussies have been great this series, i concur. To me though it just highlights how lazy the selectors have been over the last few years. Look at the amount of local good talent in this country (Victoria on saturday) & i should add Tasmania.
