ok, understand (and i suspect this will be the result today, even if i disagree) btw your footrace analogy is not always so simple. generally to get to a final you must qualify through heats, semis, prelims etc before the final. in all these races someone has been eliminated and denied the chance to progress to the finals thus complicating the theoretical result just as in the afl example. In the case of the ioc they just ignore this anomoly and simply remove the miscreant from the final result. ..............just saying -

i'va the umpires only gave 3 players votes per game. it is therefore impossible to remove watson's votes and promote other player's votes completely. no-one knows who the 4th or 5th or even sometimes the 6th umpire's fairest and best player would have been occam's razor would suggest just use the next final positions i.e. cotchin/mitchell -
well given the number and quality of staff these days at an afl club (and mfc in particular) i don't think there is much chance he won't get enough nurture and attention. whole different world than what he would have faced in a junior country club.

that's why they wanted them to appear at the hearing tomorrow.........so they could do a signed confidential deal (they can't do anything without a "deal") -

well we'll find out in 2 days. i suspect they will take the option that placates essendon but -
don't know if it is any help to you doc, but i believe nbn just recently launched their own satellite. i seem to remember reading that this would allow them to use new technology for a better faster solution for satellite users. i didn't pay much attention to it at the time (as it wouldn't affect me) but there may be some promise in it for you in the future. you might like to pursue that line of investigation? there again my memory might be wonky.

i'd just like one player to come out and say unequivocally and simply 'i/we did the wrong thing, i/we were guilty' instead of the spin that is so much part of life these days. i'm not holding my breath. -
well we all hope there is no reason for the knives to come out, but footy journalism wouldn't be what it is without the knives, but i'd prefer we get some early good publicity rather than starting the season with a lot of negative press as has been the case for years. things are genuinely looking on the up, but the battle is only really beginning
-
may as well bask in the sun before the knives come out
-
see post #11 i was talking of a permanent 3 division comp (a'la us sports)

the afl like breaking records, w. it's good for business i'm told (and bonuses) -
so you are saying that if the 18th team at the end of round 17 then doesn't tank but still finishes last you will "reward" them for the wooden spoon and not tanking by giving them pick 8 in the draft as a gesture of equalisation and thanks..................rightio

too true doc. it's not for me but. it's for all those historians of the 22nd century. i'm sure though that all our collective posts on bananas will certainly exceed 4 pages, so i am at a loss to understand the optimistic target being set. far too orwellian a task i fear. pass me the soylent green please, the popcorn has all been eaten

redleg, i don't doubt the afl will officially strip him of the medal come tuesday. only the governing body can do that. all watson has done is return it for their decision, returning it at the last moment is a bit reminiscent of essendon "self reporting" only when they heard the axe was about to fall. -
four [censored] pages! this will be akin to the wanton destruction of the library at alexandria. at least thanks to modern technology we will have the wayback machine
-
that is the most likely, i agree i was only discussing divisions (a) in preference to 17:5 and (b) if it was decided to pursue a more equitable fixture
-
i wasn't arguing those points about results, just saying for interest sake now as far as how you would set the 3 divisions we could discuss for ages. my intention though would be to end up with each division being reasonably equal to each other in strength terms (probably based on recent history and to some extent on medium length history) within that intention also try to gain some geographical rationale to encourage local derbys and minimise travel time) but that may be too hard in practice. It won't be easy and will provoke a lot of heated discussion but it is doable

we wouldn't have played hawthorn late in the season, beat them, impressed lewis so much he defected to us we also wouldn't have played and embarrassingly lost to geelong and carlton norf might have played finals anyway, if there has to be change i prefer the 3 equal divisions set permanently. play all teams once (rotating home games each year) and your division twice .
