the mhl cable is "supposed" to provide charging (to the phone) simultaneously while connected to the tv (without a separate usb connection).

don't think your tv's hdmi port needs to support mhl (most won't) just make sure your cable includes a built mhl to hdmi adapter.....or you add a separate mhl to hdmi dongle to your tv's hdmi port
