  1. Trade for 3-4 top 15picks... ala. Hawthorn did in 2004 & 2005. Seriously rebuild, no more [censored]-footing around. A 'rebuild' is not trading for 1 extra top-15 pick, it is completely starting over with the future in mind.

Chances are we are going to be losing a fair amount of our core players of the past 10yrs (Neitz, Yze, White, McDonald) in the next 2-seasons, so we have to plan ahead long term... not look for little over-26ers to temporarily plaster over the cracks that they will all leave with their departures.

I mentioned it in one of the threads I started up... we have a good core group of 20-25yr olds who will peaking around 2010-2011... lets build around them.

Name me 3-4 Melb players who are worth top 15 picks? (players you are willing to trade)

  2. Thats crazy. Write off the season and lose a cool million doing it?

You guys are so focussed on a high draft pick bringing about immediate success on and off the field, whether thats Natanui or not. He may be marketable, he may bring supporters back to the club, but we will go backwards in doing so.

Win as many as we can and restore the pride in the jumper. We have asked for that for so long haven't we?

What, so we finish in the middle of the pack and pick up another Daniel Bell at 14? This years draft does not run very deep. They think that the top 3 are standouts and you could throw a blanket on the rest of them. For the sake of our future, we need to draft extremly well this year. Don't forget, the new clubs will be allowed alot of concessions in the next two/three drafts! VERY IMPORTANT.

  3. Word is that the Blues want Brad and Brett Ratten (who maintains close ties with Melbourne players after his midfield coaching role) has asked him not to sign anything until he and his management have discussed offers.

Apparently Brad is ready to move on and at this stage in his career is favouring his wallet over team loyalty. Other interested parties include Richmond and at least one other Melbourne based club. I know he has his detractors but at this time should Melbourne players in the later part of their careers be looking for better opportunities else where and should the club be trying to retain experienced and talented players like Green?

    How much is he worth?

    He's not going anywhere.

  4. Agreed, - the future :>

    {Bell Daniel--------} Pot'Trade Value? Expressions of interest?

    {Wheatley Paul----} Pot'Trade Value?

    {Newton Michael---} Pot'Trade Value?

    Holland Ben--- Pot'Trade Value???

    Robertson Russell---Pot'Trade Value????

    Whelan Matthew

    White Jeff

    Neitz David--Retire

    Yze Adem--Retire

Who would want Holland? Robbo has no value anymore.. Last year was his last chance, Would keep Newton for another year, wouldn't get much for Bell, wheats, or dunn.. Still worth holding on to Bell and Dunn, Would consider trading or even delisting wheats. Still keep Whelan. Know for a fact Jeff White will retire at end of this year.

  5. It is pretty obvious that Hawthorn are going to be a massive force in the next 5+ seasons, yet less than 5 seasons ago, they were in our boat. Why not try to implement some of their idea’s to help us rebuild into a force.

We need to follow a similar model to what Hawthorn did during 2004-05-06… they didn’t finish last in any of those seasons, but traded for 1st round draft-picks. 2008 is ‘our’ 2004, so in theory we should start afresh and trade for as many first round picks as we can get. Hawthorn had 5 picks in the first 26 of the 2004 National Draft (three top-10). 2009 should be ‘our’ 2005… 5 picks in the first 22 of the draft (three in the top-14).

Below are positions that I believe are almost set for the next decade… there are a few holes that need to be filled obviously, but our midfield is in pretty good shape… which is a really good base to work from (as shown by power sides like Brisbane 2001-2004, West Coast 2005-2007, Geelong 2007-Present).

    * Ages at January 1, 2011 (I apologize if any errors are there)

Looking at the ‘Hawthorn model’, they targeted key position players in the majority of those drafts picks… and we have to do the same. I hope the likes of Newton, Martin, Dunn, etc. can fill some of those holes… but it is about time we can poach stars who can blow games open (easier said than done… but have some mongrel, offer an up-and-coming key position star some big cash to jump ship [i know of one player with initials L.F who followed the us as a kid… or even some of his team-mates, they have a plethora of young key position players]).

A good start to solve our 2010-11 ruck woes would be to draft Naitanui and hopefully get Warnock over from Fremantle in this P.S.D. With the new teams entering the competition, that will also be our opportunity to get some early picks by trading some of our established players and so forth. We must not trade for players over 26 this year… they will be past their peak when we are ready to charge.

Forget the frustration of this season, and look forward… our core group of under-25s is not too shabby at all. I am willing to go through a few seasons of agony if it is going to lead to 4-5seasons as a genuine contender in 3-4yrs time.

You can add Jack Grimes to that team.. He'll be a star, also Maric in the fwd pkt, and Tommy McNamara in the backline, with Garland? Cheney looks like a can also play, and they reakon Spencer is also a good long term prospect- with Naita- Hopefully! And also Moloney, Dunn, and maybe Valenti.

  6. How about, win 12 out of the next 15, cementing 6th and win through to at least a semifinal in Neita's last year.

Spoon is off-field suicide for this club.

Lets not get carried away here.. Don't get me wrong, it was a sensational comeback and win. BUT, lets not be blinded over one game.. We still need to sweep the floor with alot of players.

We'll be lucky to win 4 games this year.. Write it off and go for draft picks!!

  7. Unbelievable - You're a real piece of work - you dish it out but can't take it. I can't respond to your pathetic attempts because I'm saddened and depressed at how you butcher the English language. Get thee to a nunnery or a TAFE course that offers remedial English classes. Obviously, you lack the credibility to have an objective discussion and due to your limited vocabulary you can only make personal attacks.

PS - would you like me to correct your last pathetic post? Free...

Firstly, l do not recall replying to any of your posts to start off with. Secondly, it was you who made the personal attack. Thirdly, l didn't realise this forum was a fricken education cente! So who's the piece of work? Did mummy and daddy pay big bucks so you could become a snotty nosed little [censored]? Or has drinking the bong water effected your brain? PS- If you would like to take it further, please let me know... Free

  8. Eastie Boyz, wazzup dog? You and your homies, should ditch da damaged goods - argue? hell no, fool! I'm jus' tellin' da [censored] to talk proper, yo!

Besides, mutha, why would I talk to the biatch? Whirrrrrr!!!!

[censored]?? Who's the one talking like his in the backstreets of Harlem? You must be one of those little tryhard's with bandaners on there hip pocket ar'nt you.. Get a grip on yourself little boy.

  9. Yep - that's right, let's think outside the square. One of only a handful that has any trade value, straight swap with West Coke for Daniel Kerr or a top 15 pick. It will rejuvenate the careers of both players. To me, Davey has lost his explosive speed and he's reticent to really go hard ever since that horrific hammy tear against the Dogs a couple of years ago. This year has been ordinary, as was 2007.

Bundle up his career highlights on a cd rom and distribute to all clubs now.

    YOUR ON DRUGS

  10. Agree with you entirely. Bring back some much need experience and give us a chance to be more competitive!!!

Who cares about being competitve? WE NEED TO LOSE GAMES!!! It's as simple as that. We need this naita kid.. He's going to be a star.. Is he worth losing for the sake of winning some pointless games. Remember round 19 last season when we gave the doggies a bath? Tha could cost us pick 1&2 this year.. For what? So we can see dutchy kick 5 again. I know it's painfull now but it will be even more painfull for much longer if we don't get these young stars..

  11. Dunn - lazy and unaccountable? He kept Johnstone to 15 touches, which doesn't seem to be too lazy and unaccountable.

Jamar has been underwhelming in his career to date, but he was excellent yesterday. Exceptional work around the stoppages.

McLean has generally been good this year.

Bailey seems to like playing players who have a really strong work rate. Bartram certainly does.

What l don't understand is.. why were we tagging a player who we traded? Can anyone answer that?

  12. Agree on Robbo.

Miller is not going anywhere and Meesen does not deserve a spot at this stage.

Miller is the biggest Netballer i've seen in years.. He's all rough and tough towards his man, but doesn't get near the footy. Looks like tarzan...plays like Jane. Heard form a good souce that Meesen was a star at Adelaide on the training track, but soft as butter on the ground and thats why they got rid of him. Think about it, why would a club get rid of a 6ft5 ruckman who was a pick 8? They don't do they.

  13. No awareness whatsoever

Thankyou. Finally someone has realised that this bloke has no awareness of who's around him.. How many times has he handballed to a player under pressure! How many times has he been caught holding the ball in our 50, when his taking 20 mins to get rid of the ball!!! Although he goes in hard, he's just not up to it.. And to top it off, he was a pick 14!!!

  14. Ok lets all pretend everything is rosey at our club like everyone else on this forum... We have a great football department that supply fantastic facilities for our champion players. We have a fantastic home base, with state of the art facilities and 50,000 members. We have a brillant president that would rather attend charity walks, a president that instead of marketing our club in australia, goes to fricken china. A president that strips our identity as "The Demons" for people in china who don't give a stuff. But he's our president and his brillant.

We have a fantastic playing list with 10-15 players who will get a game with any other side. Although we've been smashed 5 times in a row.. we can see what game plan our coach is trying to implement. BECAUSE WE ARE MELBOURNE..

  15. Don't get me wrong, I love this club more than anyone.. I've been a member for 19 consecutive years... But l tell you what here's a Solution, start from the top.. The President! He is an absolute goose. He can never give a straight answer. Appoint a president with a history of success, a president with a bit of passion.

Look Bailey might be ok.. but In my opinion, he was not the right person for the job. We needed a coach that could market our club to it's potential in it's 150th year, a coach who would draw sponsership and members to our club. And a coach that would scare the living [censored] out of underachievers like Travis Johnstone, Colin Sylvia, Brad Green and the rest of the fairy's down there. Sheedy was the man.

And then we need to completly overturn our list! The fact that Mark Jamar still plays AFL football staggers me... fair dinkum. Holland, Jamar, Mc Donald, Yze, White, Miller, P. Johnson, Chris Johnson, Garland, Robbo, Wheatley, Warnock, THERE NO GOOD!!!!!! GET RID OF THEM! These players will not take our club to any level.

And as for Cards 13 & condemed, there's no need to get personal.. At least l am realistic and honest. That is why our club is the way it is.. People like you two who always think everything is rosey.

  16. Why in hell would Fevola or Brown, or any footballer with half a brain would want to ruin there career and come to a dismal, disfunctional, tragic, useless, pathetic netball organisation like the Melb netball club. We will never, ever entice big name players to our pathetic organisation! Why do you think Judd didn't want a bar of us? He knew we were a mess.. From the coach, right down to the boot studder, we are a JOKE... So don't get your hopes up. I would rather play for marybrough reserves than the Melb netball club.
