  1. He cost us the Rosehill Guineas on Rock Kingdom, when he sat down just before the line. We lost in a photo.
  2. Racing car drivers, trotting drivers, bob sledders, chess players, etc.
  3. I am fairly heavily involved in horse racing and haven't gambled in 15 years. I hate the casino. I don't play cards. No horse bet for 15 years. I enjoy my horse racing, more so when I race or breed a winner. Also when I visit my mares and foals I really relax and enjoy myself which is a great break from the stress of working and supporting the MFC.
  4. Went to training today and the boys looked good. Training appears a bit more intense and quicker than previously. More physical development was evident too.
  5. Agree with most of that. Remember most stallions fail at stud for various reasons.
  6. Anyone would infer that suspended means no pay, as there is no work done. When the oppositie is the case, you usually get the rider, "suspended on full pay". The reason for that is, that you are not doing the norm and explaining it.
  7. Not where you live, but over here we are ready for dinner.
  8. I am taking bets on whether Hird will ever be installed as an AFL Legend. Anyone want to back him?
  9. I think that position has well and truly been reached. For a suspended but still employed, Coach's wife, to call the AFL CEO a liar and state that the AFL has acted appallingly, is a declaration of war.
  10. Agree.
  11. Amen brother. I would imagine even Essendon Commissioners Dessau and Kelty, would be disgusted with the club and Hird camp's behaviour.
  12. Well played Hird camp. The AFL witholding money from the club, Hird's payments now in danger, club possibly to front the AFL Commission. Surely silence was the way to go. Essendon getting on with business. Hird receiving $1m salary while on holidays.
  13. Will have a read, nothing else happening in the footy world it seems.
  14. Pretty quiety footy news day.
  15. I don't accept that AD has lied about his knowledge of Hird being paid by Essendon. IMO he believed they were not paying him. It would have been far too easy to uncover. Clearly Hird's lawyers have noted that the written suspension doesn't specifically refer to "remuneration while suspended" and have advised Hird accordingly and it may have been one of his conditions, that they felt the document met. IMO AD was under the impression that suspension meant no pay and he has said he told Essendon not to pay Hird. This was however between him and Essendon, not Hird and was verbal and after a written document had been executed by Hird and the AFL. Hird's lawyers have probably pointed out to Essendon that they have an agreement with him and that the AFL one doesn't alter that in respect to remuneration. While it is probable that Hird told his side he wanted his money, they may have waited until the written penalty was provided and then grabbed it, as it omitted the non payment clause. The Hird's are playing a dangerous game, but are probably confident in knowing that AD won't sue for defamation, because the mysterious phone call would rear its head in Court and if proved could land AD in serious hot water. I would imagine at this stage the AFL and AD are absolutely furious with Hird and the Bombers. For Tania Hird to give an interview and call the AFL's behaviour appalling and operating by threats on people and clubs is clearly damaging the AFL brand. Interestingly as I have said before, not since the media conference in February, where Hird accepted full responsibility, has Hird accepted any at all. It is clearly an orchestrated campaign to get back at AD and the AFL. If the Bombers weren't such a big club and if AD and the AFL weren't scared of Court, one can only imagine what would happen.
  16. I didn't know that AD is a lawyer.
  17. The rule of thumb is that most studs aim to recoup the purchase price of a stallion within 3 years. That is then dependent on how many services can be sold and get a positive result ( pregnancy) and of course the price needed on positive sales to get to $5m. For an example, if the price was $20k per positive service, you would need about 250 positive sold services over 3 years. That gives you some idea.
  18. It's a bit more complicated. Stallions that are placed on a stud see a number of free serves being given to the stud for sale by them which is their charge for keeping the horse. Lets say 20 service rights might be the norm. Then stallions don't get every mare in foal, 90% would be a very strong result. Then most stallions are syndicated and the owners of the shares get serves attached to their shares. So after stud service rights, shareholder service rights and negative results are deducted, you may find that only 20-40 serves have been sold and go in the kitty. The usual selling price of a stallion is calculated on getting money back within 3 seasons. A stallion is at his best price initially in his first season, that is when the magic is there. Often his price drops in his second and depending on what his foals look like, can drop again in the 3rd and then it depends on racetrack performance of progeny.
  19. Keep away from punting syndicates. Invest in bananas.
  20. Missed training due to work. Enjoyed reading the reports. Last chances before xmas appear to be friday and monday.
  21. He is a lucky boy.
  22. Sorry I missed the Group race mention. Probably would need a Group 1 to be at levels you quoted, but if he did that, yes he would stand at that price given his pedigree. I only got into Moshe after he retired and as stud deal was being arranged. He served 176 last year and I think about 150 this year, to be confirmed, but as I said, he is one sire getting inferior mares and it will be hard, but at least he will have numbers on the ground.
  23. Surpass it, our absolute best result would be 40% of it.
  24. Incorrect. The horse was vetted at the sales and all vets bar the BC3 one rated the horse high risk and unlikely to race. That was my mail as well, then and now. I was told he would not race because of his knees not the spider bite. That came along later. As for him going to stud, the fee you suggest for an unraced close relative to a champion is way off the mark. I have a share in Black Caviar's full brother, not half brother, who actually raced and won twice, looked good but then was retired because of a throat problem. He stood at $6.6k last year his first year. Unfortunately while a horse can make it on pedigree, without winning, they start at reduced fees and have to breed winners to succeed. It is bloody hard and few do it because the quality of mares they serve is inferior.
