  1. I agree 'Land 7. Your second para, combined with what has been written in the 'Physical Maturity' thread were far more 'match defining' last night than any shortcomings in our gameplan or lack of initiative by the coaching staff. Three consecutive six day breaks didn't help either.
  2. I generally avoid commenting on topics like leadership, on the grounds that those inside the Club are in a much better position than me to make judgement calls on these issues. However, from what I have seen on the field over the last 6 to 8 weeks, it's becoming clearer by the week that 2012 will be the appropriate time for a 'generational' change of leadership at the Melbourne Footy Club ....... time to introduce the 'new breed' of leaders who will lead us to the holy grail. Transition to the 'new breed' will be difficult, and some noses will be put out of joint, but I really think we must 'bite the bullet'. If this means dispensing with aspects of the Leading Teams model, then so be it! For me, one of the major positives of the 2011 season so far, has been the emergence of some real on-field leaders amongst the ranks of our talented youngsters.
  3. Great mark and good game by Ricky ...... worked his backside off. If that's what a short stint at Casey can do for a players approach, then I'd like to see a few more asked to follow that path.
  4. We were clearly outplayed tonight by bigger bodied opponents. It was a 'tired' performance by the Dees, and very hard to find four quarter contributors. My votes: 6. Trengove 5. Watts 4. McKenzie 3. Petterd 2. Jones 1. Howe
  5. Demonland is my football lifeline ....... I'd lose my mind without it. Thanks Andy for all your hard work and generosity. Such a tiny subscription.
  6. Heartbreaking, just heartbreaking! One of my all-time favourites in 60+ years supporting the Dees. RIP Irish, you will never be forgotten in the annals of the Melbourne Football Club.
  7. Couldn't agree more! Demonland is my first port of call every day! Thanks to everyone involved, including contributors who give me my daily 'footy fix'.
  8. A few Demon mates and I have christened him "Dodger" (Dodgers Ferry reference)
  9. You would hope so, but I'm not sure how much of his work goes un-noticed by the umps. 7 Charlie votes in 2010 and 7th place in the Bluey. Has certainly played better this year.
  10. Work rate, footy smarts and a decent amount of talent make him a great long-term prospect. Adds some important ingredients to our current forward set-up, and this can only go in one direction as he gets games under his belt, and spends more time working alongside his team-mates. Great stuff ...... I had expected him to be a one-trick pony (I should have known better!).
  11. Totally different players, but I've always seen great similarities between the kicking styles of Jake Spencer and the great Brian Dixon (but with apologies to Jake, I don't ever remember Dicko missing the ball completely). Tappy reminds me of Greg Wells. Both nuggety and hard at it with good hands and very good disposal, although Wellsy didn't kick as far as Tappy. This comparison may become more obvious if Tappy gets to play in the midfield down the track. Bryan Kenneally and Cale Morton. Both 'baby faced', skinny and very versatile. I'd love to think Cale could be as valuable a player (long term) as 'Kid' Kenneally.
  12. Ditto what I said a week ago. Love the way he takes the game on. You could excuse him for not playing with his natural flair in his first couple of games, but it hasn't deterred him one iota.
  13. Disagree. I thought HiFi was pretty good today, and certainly did enough to hold his spot.
  14. Agree. From what I have seen on the field and in the media, Trenners has leader written all over him.
  15. LJ is turning the corner back to where we want him. A lot more off the ball stuff today, tackling and chasing which was great to see. The forward line is starting to come together!
  16. 6. Moloney 5. Watts 4. Jones 3. Frawley 2. Garland 1. Trengove
  17. Great article .... just in case some of us needed a bit of reassurance!
  18. King failed in his bid to have his one week ban overturned.
  19. Menzel got the nod this week, but I like Howie's chances before season's end (not that it's worth much anyway!)
  20. Another potential gem from the rookie list. Wouldn't surprise if he finds himself playing on Jake King at some stage next Saturday.
  21. No thanks. Can't even cut it with the Cat's mids and HBs delivering it forward.
  22. 6 - Watts 5 - Martin 4 - McKenzie 3 - Green 2 - Howe 1 - Frawley
  23. Excellent initiative! Edit: typo
