Chin was ok in the practice match for me.
When he came in last year, he looked like a gun.
It's been a while though since we've seen that form.
He will be struggling to get a game this year of he doesn't lift. Some great new talent competing for his spot.
Yep. I thought he was very good up until he up until he landed awkwardly on his back in the 1st or 2nd quarter after which he dropped off

Just finished the replay and he's been spoken of much already but Laurie really impressed me.
At the beginning of last year I thought he was a spud but last night his inside work distributing the ball was outstanding. He makes great decisions with and without ball in hand and goes when he has to and a great side step, reminds me a touch of Sam Mitchell. Here's hoping he can develop as good non dominant side disposal as he did

Turner played forward and dominated, 31 marks, 15 goals 2 behinds, 17 tackles, 133 pressure acts, 41 goal assists and 2 smothers. Grundy had 128 hit outs, 98 to advantage and kicked 2 with 33 disposals and 14 marks. JJ had 56 disposals, 45 contested, 2200m gained and kicked 3.
Turner also kicked 18 behinds which worried me

I've put my professional photographer (30 years)and sleuth hat on, poured over the footage of Trac's nearly match winner and come to the conclusion the ump probably got it right.
The behind and in front of goal footage is inconclusive other that going through it frame by frame which shows no clear finger bend from the ball being touched but If you look at the goal post camera footage it's clear his outstretched left hand at no point is anywhere near the ball
BUT WAIT
If watch Marchbank's right arm as the ball passes you can see its shadow from the lights suggesting the ball is very very very close, most definitely in brushing distance and if you watch him on the ground suggesting he touched it he initially points to his left hand then quickly changes it to his right

The Carlton defender certainly didn’t seem to plead his case.
Absolutely! He would have going off his trolley if he'd touched that

Was really surprised how good he is in contested situations.
Agree. Those long spindly legs don't inspire confidence that he can hold ground or deal with a contest but he just keeps marking it

FWIW the Lions and Dees score worms after 1/4 time and 3/4 respectively make textbook stock chart reversal patterns.
If I wasn't such a passionate Dee I would have definitely shorted them after the Lions 2nd in the 2nd

Dipper was a true gentleman off the field. Went to school with him. A monster guy even then but carried himself with dignity and grace. Protected the small kids and school bullies and toughs feared him. Allan Jeans turned him into a football thug. Actually Allan Jeans should be on the thug list as well.
I went to school with him too at Hawthorn West PS, one of the 'tough' kids but never a bully. Also got a chance to chat with Robbie Flower a few years before his passing and asked him about the Dippa thing, he said he was brutal but always in the act of play. He then said without reservation Malthouse was the dirtiest player he'd encounted on the field, bashing him behind the play in a practice game one year

Speaking of young talent Blake Howes game against Southport was very impressive. Class, courage, great hands and a beautiful kick. Won't be surprised if a senior look in beckons soon

Blake Howes really impressed me. Very classy, a couple of courageous contested marks backing into packs. Great hands, good decisions, a beautiful kick and pretty good wheels. Won't be surprised to see him promoted if an opportunity presents

Carlton's tall forewards.........I want them!

Smashed at clearance, in the air, on the spread and their defensive system. 12 of the last 13 goals...Ouch! I don't think May's absence would have changed the result. Freo are a really good team

Gone from being hit and miss with his kicking to very reliable

All that and he's as hard as any player in the team with an almost Clarry like appetite for a contest

Silvagnj is a flaw! Bloke is a self serving numpty!
And totally unoriginal, using exactly the same language that Goody and the players used

Sounds like they've just realised the days of 'We're Carlton and you're not' won't cut it anymore https://www.sen.com.au/news/2021/09/29/silvagni-reveals-carltons-biggest-flaw/

Absolutely owned by the dogs and the score didn't reflect their total dominance
Bit of a whack from the Bont in the postgame interview describing the win and their ability to keep the ball out of the Melbourne forward line "It was a bit of tick but you know you're going to come up against really strong teams during the course of the year"
