  1. Where was this alleged? Any source? That is baffling if Bartram is not delisted.
  2. As far as I know whoever still had control of the Fitzroy Football Club, the entity, approached the Reds. They are not called the Lions. It is the Fitzroy Reds.
  3. The Reds were already established at Brunswick St Oval & they merged with the Fitzroy Football Club, to bring the original FFC back to life so to speak & yes, give a functioning football club access to FFC's still existing member base, etc. From all reports its been a success, they made the Grand Final and crowds have been getting bigger so it definitely appears that way.
  4. BP & co rank all the players prior to the draft & pick them accordingly. Of course it is subjective & of course different recruiters rate players differently, all that matters to MFC is who they rate. MFC will be picking the player they deem 'best available' at pick 11, if MFC rate Tapscott higher than Butcher then that is who we will pick.
  5. BP has stated repeatedly all year that we will be taking the best players available with all of our early picks. The end.
  6. I assumed this would have been a thread about the reincarnation playing in the VAFA. They were runners up in div D this year so go up to div C for 2010. Check out Fitzroy FC Sometimes go past Brunswick St Oval for a peek on a Saturday arvo as I live nearby. They've got a strong following so there is a good atmosphere at the games. Seemed to be becoming a cool way to spend a Saturday afternoon amongst the Fitzroyalty set... any interest in the game at this level is a good thing I guess. As for the VFL team, I always liked them because they were aligned with my local area & footy clubs and I suspect, with the benefit of hindsight, because they sucked so badly that they never really posed a threat to the Mighty Dees!
  7. Some people get lost on the inevitable fact that because GC17 is NEW AFL team exceptions are going to be made. You can carry on like a dinosaur and suck lemons every time it happens or you can deal with it. It is nothing to do with what suits the clubs or the AFL. The draft is done in late November because that is when it most suits the kids coming through who are mostly Year 12 students.
  8. Yes, good point, its the exact same situation as the MFC not being allowed to announce its picks You're going to get sick of crying hypocrisy or double-standards every time an exception is made for GC17 or GWS cause there is another 30 months to go yet. It makes sense for GC17 to do it and for the AFL to allow it for obvious reasons.
  9. If we beat Hawthorn in Tasmania last year, which we had every chance to do so, it would have been a big boost for membership, momentum and sponsorship. The same applies this year against whoever we play. I don't understand what you mean buy it 'should be used to give lower teams a heads up'? An easy game against a crap team in Melbourne? I think a win against a top 4 team interstate would do more for our exposure than two [censored] teams nobody cares about playing at Princes Park in front of 5,000 people. You have opportunities to see MFC train, play practice matches & play for points 11 months a year. The NAB Cup is the only opportunity for regional supporters to go and see a match and its a half baked one at that. I don't understand what the sooking is about. It seems everything just gets framed as an AFL conspiracy against MFC and its supporters nobody what happens.
  10. Seems fairly sensible approach from all parties to me. Larke Medal at 16 is huge. GC17 are the ones taking the risk by picking him up 12 mths early so I dont see what the problem is, if it doesn't work out its there loss.
  11. Wow. You'd have to have a close look at several of them, especially McDonald, Harding & Hooper. Unless we firm on one prior you'd assume most of them will nominate for the ND though.
  12. Agree. Bartram is playing with the same ability he had in 2006, that's the problem, the game has evolved but he hasn't.
  13. They are grown men who live an ultra-privileged lifestyle. To be hit with reality would do them some good. Instead they'll be ushered into an AFLPA arranged traineeship / course & get paid $1k a match to play local footy.
  14. Yes, entirely. People are coming to the conclusion that the Swans want Martin entirely from the fact that they offered a deal for the Tigers pick 3 and not to anyone else. Whether or not it is true or not is another story but there is no doubt that the above conclusion makes logical sense. Whereas yours does not.
  15. You think? The only place it was mentioned is here: Who are the really good players? Tom Scully and Jack Trengove seem, at this point, likely to be wearing Melbourne jumpers next year. All going well, they will play round one. Midfielders Dustin Martin and Ben Cunnington are in the top group, as is Anthony Morabito, a 190-centimetre wingman from Western Australia. They seem the distinct top five at this early stage. That Sydney offered Richmond draft picks six and 14 for No. 3, but didn't make Fremantle the same offer, tells us something. Nothing to suggest Mora from that.
  16. No, the Swans making the offer to a club with pick 3 that wants Martin & not a club with pick 4 that does not want Martin explains that version.
  17. I'm with KS. Your logic makes no sense. If Richmond want Martin then Morabito will still be available at pick 4, yet they didn't make Freo the same offer. All reports have been stating the Swans want Martin.
  18. Fair bit of wishful thinking there. The hardest part about these exercises is fitting everyone in. You've omitted several walk-up starts, including the captain, have no 2nd ruck and a third of the list on the I/C Not sure if I like the idea of Jurrah played up the ground, he is so damaging near goal. And the opposite for Watts, in the future they'll be wanting to use his marking power & athleticism up the ground, I think you'll see him rotating through a forward flank or a wing, they certainly won't be playing him full forward without another mature body out there for support, Miller, possibly Martin with Jamar rotating through, Garland even... I like Green down there though.
  19. This is not opinion this is fact, ie the world is round, the 2009 AFL draft is compromised, etc. Martin I believe. It was reported in the Scum & on the AFL website last Wednesday or Thursday. Agree, it certainly says a lot about how the top handful are rated compared to the rest of the pack. It'd be interesting to know what sorts of trades like this have gone through in the past and which players were the targets.
  20. Requirements of being the crappiest team in the comp? Laycock sux.
  21. I wasn't. You can pull up all the useless figures you want, fact is Collingwood has had a tall forward position up for grabs for their last 50 odd matches and Dawes hasn't even earnt the opportunity to showcase his wares for any extended period of time, let alone made a claim for a key forward post. And this in a side known for playing kids.
  22. Re his draft pick, I think people's points are that not only has he proven nothing at AFL level, he was also drafted in the middle of the pack, so on what basis is he being valued at pick 18? Unproven potential? Give them 34 at best then, around where he went last time when all he had to offer was unproven potential. Wonna is no comparison. Proven AFL player v unproven AFL player. Dawes has not lacked the chance to prove himself, the Pies have been screaming for tall forwards. Why would you offer pick 18 for someone who has not taken their opportunities?
  23. He was drafted as a late 2nd rounder and in 3 years has done absolutely nothing at AFL level. You pay more for players that have gone forwards not backwards. Surely he is worth nothing more than a 4th rounder.
  24. Pick 11 for a player who could not even get one run in the seniors all year?!?! I think Maguire's market value would be around 3rd round. MFC would not trade pick 11 for him in a million years.
