PREGAME: Rd 13 vs Collingwood
Watching Brisbane kick themselves to death was compulsive viewing last night, and strangely comforting. But then I remembered the opening quarter of last year's KB fixture and Disco Turner's strong mark in front of goal about 30 metres out. Kicking from about 40 metres on a very slight angle Disco put the ball out of bounds. It set the tone for the game: zero goals and four behinds in the first term on the way to 6.15 which included four posters. For the record JvR kicked 3.1, the only forward to have a positive goal-behind ratio. Fritter was the worst at 1.4 and Kozzie marginally better with 2.4. Disco ended with 0.1 plus that OOB. I only mention this to heighten my own sense of dread, but I thought it best to share. Hell, I hope we turn up. And fire.

Hughes and Grinter only ever collected opponents in contests in my experience. Matthews routinely dropped blokes behind play. Just ask Stephen Smith. Or Peter Giles. Matthews was seriously messed in the head.

POSTGAME: Rd 12 vs St. Kilda
This is my observation also. Lots of hilarity as a boundary line snap curls through but no systematic series of attempts from dead in front, 15 degrees, then 30 degrees, 45 etc, and different distances. No concerted goal kicking at all, just a bit of frippery at the finish. Several weeks ago they spent all of 10 minutes kicking for goal but without much system. Ominously, I saw Lindsay miss from 35 metres on no less than three occasions. It was striking given how strong his field kicking is that he lost his mojo in front of the sticks. But what they were doing did not look systematic enough to correct any faults. And I as much as anyone admire Max Gawn, but how does the club captain escape criticism for failing to take goal kicking seriously. At this stage of his career he should be reliable, not a gamble.

CASEY: Rd 10 vs Sydney Swans
A bigger disappointment would be seeing him in the seniors. We need to move beyond those who can't finish.

Noah Yze showing the family DNA is there. Edging out Mentha for goal of the day.

NON-MFC: Round 11

i want AJ in the side because he brings big man vigour that others do not in the same way, and I want him going hard and with confidence for Queens Birthday and an appointment with a certain Number Four.
