Yes. Damage to the frontal lobe causes impulsivity and poor decision making. Look at the instances of boxers, MMA fighters and spousal abuse. These people have suffered multiple concussions and direct damage to their pre frontal cortexes, which is the thinking centre of the brain and helps us to self regulate, problem solve and provides us with a capacity for reflective thinking, thinking before acting etc.

There's also a great doc on Netflix about NFL player Aaron Hernandez called 'Killer Inside'. He had repeated concussions that led to brain injury, that then led to dark outcomes. You get the picture, but it goes into all this stuff.

Also former WWE wrestler Chris Benoit. Killed his wife and children in a murder-suicide. Post mortem scans of his brain showed it resembled an old man with dementia from repeated concussions. Horrible stuff

Wasn't sure where else to post this so figured here.

Did anyone else hear Daniel Hoyne from Champion Data talking about May?

He noticed that this week May played higher up the ground, winning 43% of his possessions across half-back (his highest for the year) and 43% inside D50 (his lowest for the year). Noted that in Round 6 he took Riewoldt but this week we left that to Tomlinson and let May push higher up the ground.

Do we think this is going to become a trend for us, or more of a one off? If the former, would support the idea that we're going to keep playing Tomlinson (at least so long as Petty stays forward).

I think in his post-game interview Goody said he sent May to Dusty in the second half after he got a hold of McVee a bit. Maybe that's why he ended further up the ground?

  3. I have the inside word that Cox took umbrage with Trac's TikToks - namely calling cilantro 'coriander' and referring to bell peppers as 'capsicum'. And the restraint shown by Big Mase for not even bringing up the complete lack of ribs, brisket or mac & cheese recipes speaks volumes of his character. I assume an official joint apology from the club and on.trac5 is imminent.

  4. Not so much a direct question, but I thought in last week's game we looked the most "Melbourne" we have in a long time. That classic defence and contested ball formula was back; the team set up a fantastic defensive zone forcing long contests down the line, our interceptors did their job and overall the team looked confident and poised (back of centre at least). Do you think after experimenting with a more high-octane game plan in the first half of the year, Goody and co. are maybe reverting back to the formula that has given us success in the past? And do you think the first half of the year the coaching staff have refused to show their hand which we're maybe starting to see now? I thought apart from some terrible goal kicking and i50s we actually looked really good on Friday, and I feel more positive about that game than some others here. Maybe it was due to the poor quality of the opposition, but keen to hear your thoughts on it anyway!

Goodwin stated in his press conference today that Salem won’t play this week. As the VFL has a bye this week, he will play VFL next week and go from there. So officially no Salem for minimum two more matches.

Probably the right call. Love Salem but he will be super under-done if he tries to play a game in the 1s this weekend, best to get some game time into the legs at Casey.

  6. May is known as the general and leader of the Melbourne backline, but I'd be keen to know what he does as a leader off the field. What young players does he gravitate towards and put his arm around? Does he have a "protege" at the club? What does he do in terms of off-field leadership as the defensive captain and senior Indigenous player?

Sounds like they're missing a few which will make life hard for them! i must admit i am never 100% confident going to Perth to play a perth team but this is probably going to be one of the weakest Eagles 22's that they've had on the park in a long time.

Definitely the most depleted team WC have trotted out since at least...... 2022

  8. I think Kozzy will re-sign after the start of the season, maybe around Round 8 or so. He plays a low-possession role in the team but stands to better show off his wares and versatility this year by getting time through the midfield. I think his manager will have told him to wait until the season is underway - a few higher-possession, higher-impact games as a part-time mid would likely drive his price up more and would really be the pertinent thing to do from his end. The Jackson saga and MFCSS will have soured a lot of people when it comes to unsigned, talented players, but I'm confident Koz will be a Dee for at least the next few years of his career.

would it be too much to ask for Geelong to crash this year. Been waiting a while to see it

I know people incorrectly predict Geelong's downfall every year, but I wonder if having finally climbed the mountain will take the fire out of the bellies of their good 30+y.o. players. They don't have that "one last flag" to play for this year, plus a short preseason. Who knows

Buckley, who coached Grundy from his draft year of 2012 until 2021, pondered just how much cash out of the Dees’ salary cap is going towards the ruck duo.

“It’s against my philosophy in terms of investing,” Buckley told SEN’s Dwayne’s World.

“Take Brodie Grundy and Max Gawn out of it, but investing that large a percentage of your cap - I can only assume - into the ruck role. I think the jury is out on what that actually does in a bigger picture.

“If it’s eight or nine per cent of your cap, and it goes there (to two rucks), does it mean you are tight in other parts of the field? Or with other top-end talent in other roles?

“Personally, I can think you can over-invest in ruckmen. I don’t like the idea of using first-round picks, even though Brodie was, but he was one of three in a row (18, 19 and 20 in the 2012 draft) so that made some sense.”

That's a pretty weird thing to say given Bucks was his head coach when Grundy signed a 7-year deal on $1m per year.....

  11. My pick would probably be Riv. Started re-finding form in the back half of the season after getting injured and had a great first couple of years. He has a bit of 'peacock' factor (confidence) and all the physical tools to take his game to the next level. Could even find himself playing more on the ball if he plays his cards right.

My other one would be Chandler to "break out" by getting regular games.
