Derm & Dunstall both really dislike the Demons! But at least this year we get to say "look at the scoreboard!" Hopefully we keep on rolling in 2022!
-
Agree with Colin: 6. Maximus Gawnius 5. Petracca 4. Viney 3. Salem 2. Oliver 1. Brown

It won't be a good look with their white shorts!

To be 9 goals in front of Cats at half time would be very sweet on Friday night! While very disappointed to not be at the Footy on Friday night, I would be delighted if I could relive one of my three favourite finals memories: - 87 Night Grand Final when we beat Bombers by a point (I know not a real final but at that stage was the closest we had gone to a final in 23 years) - 87 Elimination final when we beat North by over 100 points (I recall being deliriously happy) - 2018 Elimination final beating the Cats (Joy of beating smug Cats) Having been waiting for 52 years of supporting the Demons, winning Friday night would be fantastic to just give us a shot at a flag, and beating the Cats would be that little bit sweeter, also with the knowledge that we would go into GF with a big chance, different to those most recent GF experiences of 88 & 2000! To all the Demon supporters going on Friday night, add a bit extra voice to your support of the Demons on Friday night on behalf of all Vic and other Demon supporters who can't be at Optus in person! GO DEMONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unusually agree with Jnr Mac comments above, plus Daniel being left free for the match. But on the positive side consider, the Dogs had a very good night and we got within 4 points in the last, so not that far off it on their VG night and our average night, the following can change: - Just start kicking a bit straighter (I think BBB is improving in his game involvement and building well, his last two shots are hopefully an indicator of what's to come, would also add in Melksham as he will likely average a goal a week and 1-2 passes that result in goals) - Demons shouldn't let Daniels run free next time - Sit tighter on Bont in forward half - Hopefully with a crowd at the GF or PF, who can boo crap decisions, the umpiring isn't as one sided and you typically get the best umpires - Demons had 6 player who played pretty well, 4-6 okay and 10 poor.

Last year we couldn't beat the rubbish teams, Nth, Freo etc, and won games we weren't expected to win, Adelaide, WC etc. Good to see Hibberd, Jetta, Brayshaw and Hannan find some form. Hannan and Brayshaw need to keep it going. Frischte and Spargo both look good for 1st year players.
-
Missed Trac and Hibberd who both played okay week 1 & 2. Seems to be a lot of room for improvement from the rest of the team.
-
Great to see the injury list numbers coming down, but still hurts to have two of our best six out. Clarry, Max, Hoges, Trac are the others in my top 6. Hibberd, Jones & Jetta on the edge, even though Jetta is out of form!

We got crucified by the umpires at the "G" last year. It would be great to have a non umpire impacted game against the Roos and finally bury this hoodoo! Don't care by how much as long as we win. 10 goals plus would be great as would ease the nerves compared to a last kick type result. Gawn, Clarry, Hogan, OMac have played well in both games, would be great to see the rest of the team play well this week.

1. Agree with many others - Max, Trac, Oliver and eventually Viney will be fantastic for next 5 plus years 2. Only lost by 3 points with half the team having poor-ordinary days 3. Oscar improving 3 positives for next week A. Tyson, Bugg and one of Frost or Brayshaw in to replace Maynard, Hannan, & Wagner B. Hogan fit C. 4 solid quarters with no 30plus negative quarters

Very happy to see TMac in the forward line, great competitor, keeps going all day, if he kicked 50 it would be great, as he will also keep ball in forward line and create opportunities for others. that winning goal against the Weagles was one of the season highlights. Sign him quickly for 3-4 years.

TMac will be better at FF as he only has to worry about goals. He has become a great set shot for goal, somewhat surprisingly to me and the goal he got against the WCE, showed his strength and how he can keep the ball in and around the goals with his tackling & pressure. Team seems much better balanced with Lever going into backline and Tommy to FF. Lever OMac Jetta (OMac can feed ball to Lever who has VG vision) Salem Frost Hibberd (Salem can drop back and become designated to take the kickout, also Frost has Salem / Hibberd who he can hand off the ball when under pressure ) Hunt Oliver Lewis (Hunt speeding into forward line and kicking barrels at goal, at least once for the season!) Melksham Hogan Petracca (Hogan & Petracca providing marking targets and both have great vision) Garlett TMac Harmes (Garlett & Harmes speed and tackling pressure) Gawn Jones Viney (Gawn fit to have a big year, giving Viney, Jones & Oliver armchair service) ANB Brayshaw Tyson (Provides great depth to the midfield and ANB also can go up forward) #22 Hannan, Bugg, Stretch, J Smith, Weideman or Pedo (Depends what we need for team balance on the day) I know I'm derailing thread but couldn't find the best 22 thread! Some luck with injuries, the draw doesn't have many 6 day breaks, and we should be good to finally make the eight!

How many times do you hear, player xyz had a great or interrupted pre season and correspondingly had a good or bad season. Gawn missed 10-11 weeks during the season and then had the umpires change the interpretation of the rules that hurt him. Give him a break. Similarly for Hogan, people who want to trade him, you must be kidding! Will be a gun.
-
Our backline as a group make basics errors: - how often do 3 go up for punch and nobody stays down or - leave goal side open at boundary throw ins e.g. Vs Pies last week & soft goals
-
Howe was a lazy s..t when he played for Melbourne! Rarely ever did anything other than go for hangers, never chased or ran.
-
Gladiator style. Only one minor problem, if only one survives, we may be light on for depth!
-
It would be great to see free kick stats for every team over home & away for last 10 years, to check the % in favour of the home teams across that time! Umpires always say the crowd don't influence them, but it is hard to believe when you see the stats from games like last night.

Improving our disposal efficiency will have a major impact on helping improve our defence. How many times are we streaming forward through the centre, players lined up and we turn it over, and the ball heads like a bullet towards opponents goals. This is one of the key reasons Jack Watts is very important for the Demons. When he is in form, he uses the ball to our advantage and helps us hit the scoreboard. He would be even better if he was harder at the contest, but when he is playing well so do we!
-
Totally agree, definitely missing a big bodied defender and a couple of players with top notch skills when kicking it into the forward line.

I rank Lewis number 17 on our list, however in the last quarter in a close game want him on the field. Carlton game, ANB kick to him to ice the time and game, smart experienced play. Pity he missed Freo game may have made the difference that day. Finals time want him on the field, so he shares his experience, positions players on the field. Next year he is likely number 22 on the list, but his knowing how to win, will still be valuable. If we didn't have Lewis next year, I would take Hodge for a year! Hawthorn still have many experienced premiership players, that's why Hodge can go, they don't have enough youth and talent. Goodwin & the FD have shown they know what their doing this year. To have the key injuries we've had since half way through round 3 till now yet still be in the 8 is a great effort. Just look at Port hardly an injury all year, Richmond have basically had their four best (Martin, Rance, Riewoldt & Cotcin) play every game, Adelaide not many key players injured, Cats Selwood, Dangerfield & Hawkins hardly missed a game, GWS the exception with great depth. Even the Swans who are now on fire, were 0-6 when they had key injuries early in the year. When we are in the eight playing our first final for ten years this September, Lewis will be worth his spot in the 22!
