  1. Not that this would be a deliberate thing ... but is it possible that today's performance is a sub-concious reaction by the playing group to the speculation that the coach may be extended for one or two years?

  2. Although steering a sinking ship doesn't sound that good.

No good could possibly come from that ad. I know Cert IV graduates that would be suitably qualified for the role described there. Do I detect a bit of "bottom dollar" recruitment?

EDIT: apologies in advance to Cert IV holders; but it does seem the PA board are not at all interested in being delivered from evil.

  3. After reading the 50 pages of posts and originally indicating I would rather Tom not play if he won't sign a contract now, I have decided, based on forum opinions and subsequently more informed thought, that;

    For the club to come first;

Tom must continue to play if form permits to reward both himself and the club for the year.

The club must continue to work on the best deal for the club (not necessarily Tom), so other players are also rewarded for their work.

If we lose Tom after our best negotiation efforts, so-be-it.

Every loss has some potential for gain. Who knows what opportunities may present for club and players.

I remain a loyal MFC fan into my 6th decade, and football life goes on.

Also, I am not a weak assed suck who excepts loss/defeat lightly.

One of only a few things on any of these threads worth acknowledging. Good post. MFC needs to look out for MFC and everyone committed to playing for it. You entice the commitment of others on terms that will accomodate everyone we want it to; not just one maybe stay maybe go player. Player stays signing a contract for reasonable money, fantastic. He disappears into the ether; MFC will surely live on.

  4. rpfc is right if you read it on the understanding that binge drinking comes under the rubric of alcoholism.

Your assertion is right if you don't feel this is the case.

It's definitely a grey area. The wikipedia entries for "binge drinking" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Binge_drinking and "alcoholism" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcoholism make for interesting reading. There is a great deal of overlap between the two terms.

By my interpretation of the description on the Australian AA website; a binge drinker presenting with the published "facts" of the Moloney case would be a form of alcoholism in my opinion.

  5. Despite a poor performance yesterday i'd like to draw some attention to a gleaming positive for the season thus far (other than Tapscott).

Stef Martin has improved out of sight and is becoming quite a handy asset (a la Leigh Brown at Collingwood).

In his first two games for 2011 he has got to many more contests than in seasons past and is now proving quite a viable back up in the ruck supporting the Russian.

ROUND 1 - 17 disposals, 6 hit outs, 1 tackle and some important contested marks

    ROUND 2 - 14 disposals, 7 hit outs, 3 tackles

He obviously couldn't ruck a whole game on his own but i think with his speed and improved fitness is only going to get better from here. He showed he is quite quick yesterday when given the ball and should be tried deep up forward occasionally if possible.

Obviously, yesterday was a dirty day for us all but, in my opinion he (along with Tapscott) have been revelations thus far. Perhaps Stef isn't given much kudos by the football world just yet but to a keen Melbourne supporter he is starting to show some good signs.

Agree with the sentiment of most that is said here. One criticism (of him, not your post); something he needs to address is decision making, two situations in particular:

    1) Defensive punch or attempt to mark - not every contested marking situation calls for him to go for the mark. He must learn to decide when it is appropriate to spoil. We lost a few contests as a result of him going for impossible marks in one-on-two situations where he fell to ground after grassing an unrealistic attempt and the Hawks crumbing (mind you - he was not the only offender in this category), and

    2) He looked lost in transition, particularly when stuck between HF and HB. Get behind the ball and help out as an extra defensive marking or spoiling option, or be a target up the field. Needs to pick the right role for that play and be decisive about getting to the right position to fulfill it (this is probably harder and will take more time than point 1).

  6. Great hit, but if he had gone for the ball he probably would have prevented an inside 50...

I am ok with it as a first up physical encounter. It sends a clear message that will alter the perception of opponents. Even if the next 10 times when faced with that exact situation, he plays the ball instead of the man; I guarantee there will be some doubt in the mind of the other bloke.

  7. I suppose Chip is too good to bring back through the reserves but i have some concerns about his lack of match conditioning coming straight up against Buddy.

While this may or may not be the case with Chip, I think this is one of the (few) advantages I see with the sub rule. You can bring back underdone players for a half of footy for one or maybe two games before they settle back into the starting 18 or 21.

  8. Just a big loving person, who's getting publicaly bashed. And his dignity is suffering.

And yet he does nothing to help himself. In fact, as an earlier poster suggested, serves only to pour more ridicule upon himself by 'hiding' his habit in plain daylight where people are only too quick to fuel the media fire.

We get it Fev, you are a gambling addict. Is it your agenda to play this line to hide your vanity and narcissistic penchant for playing the media tart?

There comes a point where the empathy dissipates. For me, that was long ago.

The value of 'any news is good news' being a jolt for the celebrity public relations circus also dissipates after a while.

  9. Great descriptions; and some encouraging signs indeed. I am a little worried about this:

Unfortunately Cook left the field half-way through the session, and although I was 100 meters away, he seemed pretty distressed and could have been in tears. He was sitting down and had his head in his hands and a few trainers were nearby. Col Sylvia had a brief chat and rubbed his hair as if to say 'keep your chin up'. Dunno what happened but it didn't look great, hoping it's nothing.

If it happened as you described, I wonder if it is a major injury, personal issues, or a lack of mental fortitude? None are palatable. No disrespect intended; but let's hope distance played a part and you misread what was going on.

  10. Hey everybody,

Just a note to say hi, not just to get used to this site's different format and introduce myself, but also to find the other Demonologists.

You see, I've decided to defect from Demonology. I'm sick of the infighting, but mainly have been frustrated by the lack of diversity among the membership there - no new members have been allowed to join that site in over a year and a half!!! Good way to kill a website forum. I like a lot of the people there, but the place is getting more and more boring - having only 20-odd regular posters is yawnville.

Anyway, like I said - hey.

It gets a bit dull after a while Chopper. I might pop up here a little more often too.

  11. nah i couldn't..just get a bunch of computer languge coming up....i think its part of timmy's re write fo the whole site...

Hmmm, it certainly isn't like the usual error messages you get when the site is down.

  12. Love it!

Maybe we'll have so many players out that we won't have a team to field, that'd give us a good excuse. We could also play Chopper as our ruckman/FF and Brown as our fullback.

Rielly could just say he was experimenting!

I think this game will be sooooooo bad it will be good. A spectacle of mediocrity. I actually look forward to it. It will be like golf.... lowest score wins.
