Jake Spencer was also a clubman, one who plays a position we are quite short on. Why not the angst at delisting him?

M8 not interested in playing games, Spencer may be redrafted by MFC, I believe that is a door open if he can't get a senior gig elsewhere.

Utter tripe. Any "vitriol" if you really want to call it that is directed towards the supporters who seem intent on tearing down the coach and FD based on their decision to trade an underperforming player who likes to pick and choose when he will take his job seriously.

Noone feels "cheated" that he is not a mercurial saviour, we feel cheated when we hear that a senior player turns up to preseason in poor condition, we feel cheated when a senior player throws out one arm in a poor attempt to tackle, we feel cheated when a senior player doesn't compare in a marking contest.

This is not vitriol, it is pointing out some very obvious failings of one of our senior players.

    Whatever m8 -

If he's such a great clubman, how come he's never been in the leadership group?

Not every clubman is part of the leadership group. We know the family and Jack, he's stuck fast thru a lot at Melbourne and signed a new contract, Neeld nearly got rid of him, but he's never requested to leave.. This is how he's rewarded.

You have your point of view - I have mine.

i can't believe this thread has got so much momentum. The last 2 premiership teams, the Dogs and the Tigers show that you can't have guys like Watts running around who blows over in the wind. You need relentless pressure and intensity. Watts has neither but for some reason people on here are like 'oh but he has nice foot skills'. There you have it, you've prioritised foot skills before hunger and thats an amateur way of building a list. Hunger and appetite for the contest always comes first. I'm really excited about Watts going. Finally I can rock up to the footy and be one step closer to 22 men applying manic pressure instead of 21.

Sorry to tell you but Jack is not the sole reason we don't come close to what the last two premiers have dished up in their respective finals campaigns. His departure does not put us closer either. This thread's got momentum because a section of the MFC supporter base do give a damn about the ousting of a clubman. But , as I said in another post; agree to disagree.

Really sad that you have so much hate and venom against a player who still is, a the moment, in the team that you allegedly support. Like to see you physically take on Jack. Or say that to his face.

Bang on - the vitriol some Demon "supporters" show Jack Watts  is disappointing.

I'm sure if he goes to Port he will have a few good seasons with less pressure.

Can't change people's perceptions here, to me it is a bad decision, but familiarity breeds contempt and that  is a big part of the problem.. Posters and supporters feel cheated , frustrated at the fact that Jack  is not the mercurial saviour he was expected to be.

People who want to trade him out look likely to get their wish.

For me just have to agree to disagree I suppose. Another divisive post season decision by the MFC in the last 10 years.

My thoughts from match discussion thread:

I watched Trenners pretty closely today from level 2 behind the goals. Most of the above are spot on but ill add some thoughts:

    - he only played 90 minutes (of the >120 minutes), about the same as Mellsham and Salem, with JKH our lowest at 82.

-he effectively played on the left back pocket on Sam Grey for 90% of his time on ground. Picked up Boak a couple of times.

    - Acted as a structural general, pointing and setting players and positions constantly

    - Didn't attack much: only left his place in the zone when his direct opponent ran into the contest. This happened less info the second half.

    - Mostly got possessions linking across half back either when we switched our as a safe option.  Got involved a couple of times when he was in the play.

    - I saw him get beaten by his specific man twice.  Once by Grey up the field on the HFF (the ball went out of centre bounce, Grey got their first, and got an inside 50 that resulted in a goal) and once during a run on play by Boak I think, as a chain of possessions caught our structure out

    - He obviously isnt fast. That didn't matter when our structure was working.  He wasn't going to chase guys down but was fine in general play.

My thoughts are he offers more than many.  I think there is a role for him when Vince and Lewis decline but unsure where he sits in the coaches eyes behind Wagner and Smith in the longer term. Does Melksham fit into this group too or is he a forward now? Trenners didn't play mid, and he didn't attack much, so it's clear to me what his role is at the moment. Just wait and see if they think he is handy depth.

Top notch assessment, I would agree with this. I believe there is a place for him as his decision making was excellent.

  7. Didn't turn the ball over, apart from one disposal that was a bit ambitious, kept his head when in possession, played a kick behind the play at times,to compensate for speed - Boak burnt him once or twice, but he was not always on him when Boak slotted his 4 goals. Cool head read the play well, didn't panic when he had it & used both feet.

Fair enough. I maybe went a bit too hard.

I would love to see Jack playing well.

Thank you for realising how obnoxious your post sounded. Footy clubs are built on passion. Everyone knows Trenners is up against it, but we all wish him well as an ex-MFC Captain whose career was cruelled by injury.

  9. Jack Trengove, the injustice of it all. Not Goody's fault.. Like Grimes, a lamb to the slaughter.. Terrible waste.

I remember the day he and Tapscott were having a kick to kick at Casey during  a Demons training session, the first year of being drafted. My semi-autistic son joined in and it was a three way kick session. There is no justice in this world..He  is an outstanding young man.

When I first watched the footage I assumed he was going to king hit multiple players. He had such clear intent and momentum, that I believed he was just going to go whack, onto the next - whack, etc. Then I heard that after he hit the first guy, that he actually tried to run away after that. Of course it is far worse than the Bugg incident. I think Fahour should definitely be doing time in jail over this. I heard he copped 2 weeks, that can't be right? Although, nothing in the minor leagues surprises me. I have seen it all in the minor leagues - from players gang bashing the oppositions best player leading into finals, to players smashing an opponents jaw to the extent that it had to be fully rewired. In the minor leagues if a player is any good, then he can expect to be king hit a few times throughout his career. That is accepted in the minor leagues. I quit those leagues many years ago. I have seen terrible things. I have never understand how people can be allowed to assault others just because they are on a football field. I never really rated football that highly, so have never really understood it. This Fahour thug should be in jail. Gil will probably give him a promotion.

I can only comment on what I 've seen and the EFL has improved drastically in this aspect. I think the barrier between a sporting field and on civvy street is gradually breaking down in terms of these acts, It's becoming more push and shove than king hits.

I agree Bugg is a fool

I'm not changing history. I don't need to. ! was there watching it mate. I'm sick to death of the 70's & 80's being made out to be worse than they were, Clowns making out footy to be a weekly bloodbath. If that cap fits.......

"Rod Grinter did that every week"

That was your statement. I still call bullshite.

The 70's and 80's were worse than now, I clearly remember Matthews taking out Giles and Smith  and remember Jarrot dropping Matthews in retaliation for his dog act on Giles at the MCG. I clearly remember the 10 minute all in brawl against Carlton at the MCG in the second quarter after Rhys Jones shirt fronted Elshaug. I clearly remember Big Carl 's last game against Collingwood where he laid out Kevin Morris and we were all joking about it. I remember Ted fidge taking tony shaw out, Grinter' s indiscretions, against Eagles, Essendon and Footscray in 87-89, O'Dwyer was lucky not to be suspended in 88 in the finals against Collingwood where he punched Fellowes to the jaw and then moved off before he could get reported. He got caught the following week against Sartori.and missed the GF.... More cameras now more tv exposure, if that was the case in those days there would have been more suspensions. It was very much a different game then.

It's not a good look and it sounds like the club are not happy. Just cop whatever whack they give you, don't argue

he apologised to mills as soon as the game ended at least

Yep don't disagree with that, probably get internally fined as well, he was remorseful, he played a very poor game after that.

He's not in the realm of Leigh Matthews, David Rhys Jones or Barry Hall.

  13. Buggy made a mistake, a reckless act like Hogan like Lewis, like Fidge, like Grinter, like O'Dwyer, like Hughes like Pike like another 50+ MFC players have done.

He will probably be lucky receiving only 6 weeks. He probably won't get another gig this season in the seniors.

If he did that in King Street he would end up arrested - lucky for him it is on a sports field.

Society and the AFL have a different view on this type of incident from bygone days - but the Bugg hating on here about get him out of the club, not what this club stands for etc  is such an over reaction  and typical on this site of people turning on their own players like something akin to the Roman mob in the arenas

  14. I had five close connections through five players  families at the club during these years (Bailey-Neeld).

He proceeded to lose virtually the whole group in one pre-season bar his cronies he brought into the club.

We were lucky Roos came on board because we would have not had a team worth fielding otherwise.

Got to feel for his Mum

Fortunately the prognosis sounds as good as it could be. Thank heavens he had a medical team that he trusted and who he spoke to earlyon . We can sit on these things for way too long out of shyness/ denial. Well done Jesse and the club and good luck

See you next year for the Coleman and a Premiership
