  1. I reckon this was the first game agains the filth that I've ever been to where Melbourne supporters haven't been outnumbered vastly, so I guess Demetriou's comments had the desired effect of getting Melbourne people to the game. Problem was that the filth supporters assumed we would be pushovers and they assumed they'd win, and with the weather this morning they probably decided not to go.

  2. I was sitting level 3 ponsford stand. Nearly had about 8 punch ups with toothless wonders. When my 3 year old son finally cracked it and wanted to watch his dvd player in the 4th quarter someone also nearly had a swing at me and told me to "turn that flucking thing off, i'm here for the football, even though he had headphones. Very bitter taste in the mouth after this one i'm afraid.

I feel sorry for both you and your son. Maybe these jokes can cheer you up:

    Q. You're trapped in a room with a tiger, a rattlesnake and a Collingwood fan. You have a gun with two bullets. What do you do?

    A. Shoot the Collingwood fan - twice.

    Q. How many Collingwood fans does it take to change a light bulb?

    A. Seven - one to change it, five to moan about it and make excuses and Mick Malthouse to say that if the umpire had done his job in the first place the light bulb would never have gone out.

    Q. What's the difference between a female Collingwood fan and a Pit bull?

    A. Lipstick

  3. Bate - what was that?

    Bell - absolutely positively awful

    Bode - not AFL standard

    Garland - most improved 2008?

    Johnson - doesn't tap advantageously

    Jones - please practise kicking

    Morton - not his best

    Sylvia - goal-kicking a worry

    Wonaeamirri - best first-year player?

    Yze - too damn selfish

Can't be bothered with the rest.

  4. WE STILL CAN'T DO IT!!!!

Today against Collingwood, it was point kicking-in that was the difference between the teams.

After their points, we were in desperate defence. After ours, they'd end up quickly in their attacking 50.

They rushed behinds almost as an attacking move. We'd never do that, since we know we have trouble clearing it from the backline.

No wonder Belly did a Clanger in Q4.....there were no options upfield.

Once Wheatley bombed long to White near the centre circle. The result? GOAL.

If the kicker-in must kick to a contest, make it 65m. out near the boundary. But a better tactic would have been to try to copy whatever tactic Collingwood used.(both in defence of our kick-ins, and on their own kick-ins.)

Is it correct that the"huddle" results when the opposition "man-up"? If that's the case the side kicking in cannot choose when to huddle. It's a response to an opposition tactic. It's the one thing we've done well at, in the past ,with respect to kick-ins. But today, it didn't work.

Today's attempts to kick the ball in made me more infuriated then I think I have ever been. It was pathetic, bordering on embarrassing, watching them repeatedly screw up kick ins. Did no one in the coaches box watch how Collingwood did it? I can't think of a situation today when the huddle worked for us. I do remember Wheatley kicking it 65m to White, but that can only happen when there's someone near Wheats to provide the shepherd. And now Bode and Bell are gonna get slammed for poor kick ins, when the problem isn't them (most of the time), but it's the set up that they're facing.

  5. Oh god no, is Rivers injured again? This is bordering on ridiculous now.

As for Moloney, whatever the injury is, I doubt we'll see much more of him this year. Maybe gives Valenti another shot. Otherwise CJ should come in.

  6. Ricky Petterd kicked a goal in his comeback game from injury with the Zebra 2's :

    Sandringham 4.3.27 8.7.55 14.10.94 16.12.108

    Casey Scorpions 3.1.19 6.6.42 8.10.58 13.15.93

    Goals

Sandringham Cleeve Lockwood Williams 3 Lyall 2 Cannon Hardiman Monaghan Petterd Shakaib

Casey Scorpions Vernon Williams 3 Leung 2 Arezzolo Fridman Griffiths Haretuku Mercoulia

    Best

Sandringham Hardiman Monaghan Shakaib Williams McConnell Fleming

Casey Scorpions Galvin Williams Griffiths Mercoulia Vernon Waite

Good to see Petterd back in action, how was his game overall?

  7. And as for his opinion on Melbourne, I am with calabreseboy, his statements may have that icky element of truth to them (although I am still at a bit of a loss to figure out why and how removing our most profitable game will do anything but put us even more in the mire), but the comments are simply not helpful and frankly make him look cheap. We all know we have, and are in trouble, no-one here (I would hope) is immune to that particular situation, but it is easy (and apparently a lot of fun, given he has done it again and again) to kick a club when they are down, but that unfortunately seems to be his forte.

Personally I wish he would just keep his mouth shut or, and I say this with fingers crossed, that his comments bring Dee fans out of the woodwork (and for the record my Dad is flying down for the game, I would but I am still too ill to fly) to attend this extremely important game on Monday, just to prove him wrong. Kind of like the Swans did by winning the Premiership on the back of his negative and staggeringly out of line comments about their brand of footy.

    Well said QueenC

  8. sorry guys havnt been kepping track but why cant Maric get a game with the abscence of Neitz and Robbo and Newton??

Well as far as I know (which isn't very far), Maric is in Year 12 and the club wants wants him to concentrate on finishing his VCE without the distractions of AFL footy.

  9. the answer is simple.

Offer him more money, the chance to play at home in vic, and if the eagles dont strike a trade with us then we can get him in the PSD with pick 1. We will just have to offer him more money than the seagulls and apprantly cartel are interested as well.

Well I hope your plan works because I'd love to see McKinley in the red and blue next year

  10. And some bulk cash! We should have the cash to throw around, i want to trade heavy this year. Prismall, Mckinley and Warnock. Melbourne and Richmond were speaking to benny mac last year but the eagles wanted him to see out his contract.

I don't think West Coast will want/can afford to trade McKinley: he's their only decent forward (especially now that Lynch rucks as well), is young and can kick goals in a team that struggles to score. Despite that, if they are looking to trade him, we should definitely go for him.

  11. I'm hoping, beyond reason, that this is a non commital statement from Demetriou.

Surely he knows that this match has only once drawn below 60,000, and as such knows that this will not feature less that 60. Could even be 80, pies fans would love to win this one after the last 4.

Besides, the only one to drop below 60,000, in 2004, was one of the most bitterly cold days i can remember. Does anyone else remember it? Not just the rain, but was very very cold, following on from 3 QB thrashings.

Yeah I remember 2004: the only year not to draw 60,000+. Rainy, cold, MFC had been thrashed the previous 3 QB matches, and, if I remember correctly, it was right in the middle of the construction of the new stand so numbers were down all of that year.

Hopefully enough filth supporters will show up to make a healthy crowd.

  12. On the AFL website they have Frawley going out instead of Bell...

In: Bode, Carroll, Jamar, C. Johnson, Morton, Rivers

Out: Russell Robertosn (achilles), James Frawley, Simon Buckley

There must have been a mistake or something because both The Age and the HUN have Bell listed in the back pocket on Medhurst and Frawley is an out.

I cannot believe Bell is still in the team...

  13. I think the issue behind all this is Demetriou looking at how to get the currently strong teams (Geelong, Bulldogs, Hawthorn) who don't have big matches into a blockbuster without having too many 'blockbusters' per year, and he sees QB as an opportunity to have, say, Hawthorn vs Collingwood, which this year in round 7 drew 76,048 without being a 'blockbuster'.

However I think this could do us a favour of sorts: getting people to turn up on Monday to prove him wrong. I guess it's possible that he came out and said this to purposely boost the crowd numbers on Monday.

  14. He's 198cm with the agility of a midfielder...and agile midfielder.

Think Franklin, Goodes, and Brisbane didn't need anyone - they had stars all over the place.

He should do the centre bounce and then play as a mid.

That's how he should be played: gives us an extra midfielder. Maybe could also go forward.

  15. Although terrible for my dream team side, Heath Shaw has shown tightly checked, he doesn't get the footy. Perhaps Dunn is the best option. Has had quite a few run with roles in the middle and has also had the experience of playing up forward, which adds the potential of hurting Shaw the other way.

Good idea: considering Dunn isn't even on the bench (which I guess means he's most likely going to play), maybe he's gonna run with Shaw. Hopefully fast enough, definitely should be strong enough. I originally thought Bartram to Shaw, but maybe Bartram will run with Thomas.

  16. So it begs the question, who will win our goalkicking this year?

So far, Robbo is on 20 and gone for the rest of the year.

Next best are Aussie on 12, Green on 11 and Jones on 8.

With Green nowadays playing as a sweeper/wingman, Aussie still a rookie who will have his inconsistencies (like last Sunday at the Dome), and Jones is a midfielder.

Will Robbo end up our leading goalkicker on a paltry 20?

Good question DemonDave. Well you'd hope that Miller or Bate kicks enough to get past 20. Maybe even Newton if he gets a spot.
