  1. Not to mention 15 goals this year, which places him 5th on the list at Melbourne.. Hogan 39 Watts 37 Garlett 25 Kent 24 Gawn 15
  2. Even better was the analysis of that play on, I think, the Sunday Footy Show on Nine. First time I've watched that show in years such was my euphoria of the win. They highlighted that Stretch was playing on Mitchell on our half back line, ran really hard up the middle and was rewarded for his efforts whereas Mitchell half jogged and was left 50 metres behind where the ball was. A great highlight of his workrate and willingness to get to contests
  3. Hogan for Pederson is the logical and obvious one. No way JKH comes in after 1 game at senior VFL level in 15 weeks. The selectors have said time and time again that players need to build up match fitness and form over a number of weeks in the VFL this year, he will be no exception (see also Salem)
  4. Player Oliver of the Scorpions, has been charged with a medium level offence of assault on player Cooks' teeth with his index finger. The act was deemed intentional, reckless and low impact. He can accept an early plea of two weeks.
  5. Eff off Harvey..can still visualise the time he dobbed Dunny into the umpires for hitting him..
  6. Does anyone have the official VFL findings? What was the judicial ruling to get him off? Funny how the commentators asked Myke Cook while interviewing him during a quarter in that last half what happened, and he said something along the lines of "He seemed a bit upset about something, lets just leave it at that".
  7. Hasn't needed to, with a combination of Spencer, Pederson, Max King and Keilty there this year, and at least one of them generally resting up forward.
  8. The commentators pointed out just before that kick that he's kicked 17.3, so he knows where the goals are. Almost impossible to kick goals from that pocket at Casey when the wind blows to the other pocket, as it so often does. Highlight of the day was Grimes rundown on Lonie, timed his run perfectly. Lowlight was the umpire paying holding the ball, and then 50, against Trengove when the only player who had hold of him was Bugg. The look of bemusment on both their faces said it all! Pick of the players for mine today was Grimes. His composure and ability to move the ball along his wing a feature. Thought most of Oliver's touches today, again predominantly kicks, were of very little effect. His net metres gained would probably be very minimal. After being seemingly bitten by Cook he played angry and distracted for the rest of the day. The lack of courage from any of the commentators to say what they and we saw of that incident was appalling, maybe because a lowlife such as Campbell Brown shares the commentary box meant it was no big thing to them. Massive win in the context of our season, especially when losing the crucial ruck dominance of Spencer so early. The last few weeks have been pretty ordinary, and we definitely learnt our lesson from last week of the importance of scoring goals against the wind.
  9. 1987 last round and first 2 finals Attending last years Kardinia Park win and hanging off the race cheering the players afterwards. 1994 Finals series
  10. All this angst over a defence that has conceded, I think, one point more on average each week than last year? Here's the games played totals for the back 6 defence for each team, as they were selected: St Kilda: HB 16 Jack Newnes 19 Sam Gilbert 11 Leigh Montagna -85/173/265=523 FB 14 Jarryn Geary 24 Sean Dempster 17 Dylan Roberton -136/216/96=448 Total Games Experience-971 Melbourne: HB 29 Jayden Hunt 28 Oscar McDonald 45 Matt Jones -13/11/58=82 FB 42 Josh Wagner 25 Tom McDonald 39 Neville Jetta -12/98/88=198 Total Games Experience-280 Until these number of games played gets up a lot higher, there are going to be plenty of times our defence falls apart simply due to lack of experience.
  11. This miss was what ultimately cost us this game, more so any mistakes that our under siege backline was in that last quarter defending the howling gale. I was standing near the Casey dugout at the time, the miss did not go down well in there! Also conceding those two first quarter goals against the breeze, which were the only 2 goals kicked at that end of the ground for the entire afternoon. It's interesting being near the bench seeing just how hands on with Plapp that Brendan McCartney is. As I've mentioned before, before every single huddle at every game I've been to this year, McCartney has a word to Plapp directly before he enters the huddle to speak. Then in the last quarter yesterday McCartney was constantly on the phone from standing behind the dugout to Plapp up in the coaches box. I've gotta say if I was coaching I'd find the constant intrusions annoying, but it clearly must be working as our results this year show.
  12. He didnt do enough in the Richmond game to justify elevation. So thats possibly the longest list of available MFC players we've had this year at the selection table. Look forward to heading to Whitten Oval on Sunday!
  13. There isn't a single new thing in this article, no quotes from any new source other than the always reliable "Club source": "The Bombers’ confidence in keeping Hibberd is starting to wane. Last night a club source said he was a 50-50 chance at best of staying" More column inch filler from Murdoch's minions
  14. Membrey has been their in form forward. So I assume Tom Mac goes to him, Frost could play on Riewoldt, and has the athleticism to follow him onto the wing if need be, so the wildcard matchup is Bruce. If Oscar Mac doesnt get up as expected you'd have to bring in one of Garland or Dunn. Neither of who are setting the world on fire at Casey. Wagner probably due a run at Casey before returning.
  15. Clay Smith from the Dogs has had 3 knee recos now, pick 17. Cripps played a handful of games in his first year due to injury Paddy McCartin pick 1 constantly being concussed career under threat. Scharenberg Pies pick 6 barely played a game due to injury Freeman Pies/Saints barely played a game due to injury Cam McCarthy pick 14 not played at all this year due to homesickness Jono O Rourke pick 2 Giants missed most of first year injured Need we go on?
  16. Did anyone else see, early in the 2nd quarter, Daniel Rioli stream out of the centre square with the clearance and send a beautiful long kick into....Caseys forward line? The poor kid had kicked it to the wrong end! And we got a goal out of it. I left not long after that to head to the G, but comedy play of the day hands down. Keilty copped an absolute bone-jarring hit from who I assume was one of the Richmond ruckmen early in this game too, so not sure if he recovered and came back on or not?
  17. His first quarters in particular this year have been really good, has been playing his best footy for a couple of years, his pace offers something of a difference.
  18. That's two huge games from Spencer and Matt Jones in a row now, gotta be knocking loudly on the selection door.
  19. Tell that to all the Oscar McDonald bashers as well!
  20. If you goto a game, and head out to the 1/4 and 3/4 time huddles, Plapp is always the last one into the huddle after the assistant coaches. The reason is that Brendan McCartney is always the one that has him aside and having a quiet word in his ear right before he joins the huddle. Happened when I was there on Saturday, and every single break I've seen at this year at games I've been to, and same last year. Quite often Goodwin always has a chat to him post huddle, so I think they're coming from a similar coaching philosophy down there at Casey
  21. Just as well we didn't have to expose any of our young guns such as Jesse Hogan to a year of playing footy at this ground then.
  22. Have I read this sentence right? If we've lost 3 of the last 10, that means we won 7?
  23. From the games that I've been to/seen of Casey this year, both are still a fair way off. Weideman WILL be a very good forward, but his goal tally this year is somewhat misleading, most of his goals have been scored in the 4th quarter this year when we've been steamrolling teams, our final quarters this year have been stunning, I don't know if it's superior fitness, simply having more AFL-players as depth shining through, or a combination of both, but that's been the difference for us this year. Here's our 4th quarter scores vs all opposition this year: 42.26 vs 13.12 I expect at least one of them will get a game by the end of the year in the last couple of weeks a la Oscar McDonald last year though, to give them a taste of it. Considering as has been mentioned both of them haven't played much under 18 football, their durability this year has been pleasing, with both having a rest week as well.
  24. Thanks for the updates as usual KC! Good to see us giving all of our emergencies a run this week too being on separate days to demons game
  25. I suddenly have that Swan Lager "They said you'd never make it..." ad song in my head! He's played all his footy as an inside mid for Casey this year, so I assume he'll add to the rotations there, but can really just as easily slot into the half back or forward line if required
