Goody needs to mix things up. Should have done it nine weeks ago by not playing Petty fwd for the last nine. I have tried to fathom why Petty has played in this role from many angles but still can't. He was a solid defender with glimpses of stardom playing in the backline where he belongs And yes after his six goals haul against tigers last year there was some premature celebration that we have found a new great forward . Alas despite his great game against Geelong this year, as a fwd, I don't believe he can be this gig. What other Afl team can a player be given 18 games as a fwd when he has kicked six goals for the year? It's got to the point where I am not sure if I eould blame Petty if he fails as defender now, because his confidence is shot. Ironically he's forced to play fwd now because Tmac has been doing well ( until last two games) as a defender and doesn't want to play fwd .( So the rumor goes). In any event Petty is struggling big time and I feel is a liability now being put in this role. He has given away 24 frees this season compared to the 12 he's been awarded. I hope next year he won't be forced to play this role and can find his old form as a defender again. Rather than move him back as a defender this weekend with May out injured, we have bought in Tommo. With a return of only one goal every three games, I'm seriously thinking that we would be better off playing Tommo fwd instead. Six goals for almost a complete season is madness. The old definition of insanity....... results not realized. But Goody is persistent beyond reason in this instance. I truly hope that Petty's confidence has been totally broken. I wish we simply moved Petty down back and blooded Jeffo this round. Mathematically there is a possibility we could play finals but the reality is another story. It's Goody's job as off last week's belting from the dogs ( who we beat quite comfortably earlier this year) to be switched on enough to know 2024 is done and dusted and to be focused on 2025. Alas he's not. I like Goody. I don't want to change coaches. He delivered a flag after over half a decade of angst. Deserves another year. That said if he's not flexible next year in a game that is getting closer and more even every season, then there will be a lot of pressure upon him. And if we don't make finals next year, then the year will be a bust and the noise to remove him will only get louder. I also hope he pays close attention to any second hand players from other clubs that we are looking at before the start of next year. -
Swans had better get going. If they lose tonight at home it's panic stations.

As a Mfc supporter, it's par for the course to dislike Cwood. But seriously this pies outfit has a particular high number of nuffies in it , so it's easy to dislike.

It will be interesting to see how much Port will win by given we beat them on their home castle early this year. We were smashed by the dogs and i don't believe that Tracca was the main reason. The club seemed checked out several weeks ago. Many players and sadly not the new ones didn't turn up the last few weeks. Not the way you want to end a season given the way we started it. The season that promised that much so much but delivered so very little. And sadly it was players that are supposed leaders and veterans of the club who let it down. It's hard to fathom if they could not be bothered this year.....it ,will change next. Can't imagine much of a crowd this weekend. Again can't see why supporters should turn up. But for those mighty ones that do, I hope the team makes an effort this weekend for them. Maybe lay a tackle that shows you actually give a damn this round perhaps. Would be a nice change .

Was that the Zeppelin scene?

Props to Langers. One of our few senior players who has really put in, this year.

Public service announcement...re Kayo

Tx. That doesn't sound too bad . I wonder how much of it goes to the club? I don't really watch too much sport outside of Afl Except of course for cricket. My goodness what two great sports. I have noticed that streaming services are encroaching on crickets free to air transmission. -

Me too . And it was nothing to do about the performance of our club. -
Don't forget to cancel Kayo/ Hubble or whatever they want to call it these days. Remember you are billed for four weeks in advance so it might be wise for some to cancel now. Finals are on free to air, I think. ( I live in New so not entirely sure). But if they are you may not need kayo. I just cancelled mine and while not hard, I have to say, the process was very OBSCURE. It's more of a process of editing and then cancelling the app. Almost as if they are trying to deter people from a simple cancel subscription option. But then I forgot who owns it. Silly me

My biggest issue is that after Jackson left we got Grundy. When he left we didn't do anything. Our fwd line imploded in the the 22 season finals with Bbb doing nothing, Melksham the same and Jackson absolutely nothing( already changed clubs). Tmac injured. Come 23 when we almost beat Cwood and despite losing Gus the same it didn't fire again. Sadly Milkshake in his career best was injured prior to finals. This time it was Tmac who gave nothing and Bbb injured. Credit to Fritta who tried very hard and was the best fwd we had. But our replacement for Jacko was left out. Maybe the memories of Jackson doing nothing was part of it, given Grundy had already moved on. Point being, we have been complacent with our struggling fwd line for three years. Now it's our ball collectors struggling. Gus is gone. Oliver has been struggling, Tracca has a serious injury. Jack Viney has been well down on last year's form and Sparrow really just makes up the numbers. Harmes and Jordan and Hunt and Bedford have all moved on for various and fair reasons. And while not all of these are necessarily were keepers it's been interesting to see the players we picked up from other clubs. At least our backline is still fairly solid. Although Lever and Salem and Bowey have been suspect this year and our big beltings were not really incumbent upon our defence. So it's some tough times ahead for us as a club I believe. Max is showing signs of age and we have players like Schache and Fullerton that we never play. Goody is partly responsible for the lack of recruiting but it's not time to panic and throw out an experienced premier coach. That would make things worse. The upside is we have some great young talent we just need to spend a fair bit of cash and bring in some experience. But no more Billings or Hunters. Also let's be careful on how we spend money going fwd. I dare say there are too many players now on our list that are not playing according to their salaries. Id point out Kozzie as a good example of this. He's a great player at times and a match winner on occasions. But look at his last three games. He has been very inconsistent this year. He has done very little in our last 3 rounds when finals were on the line. It's very difficult to point out where we lost this season aside from a dodgy fwd line where for 18 games Petty has given 6 goals. I mean after Gather we were four from five and then we fell off the cliff one week and rebounded the next only to see us get worse week to week. Losing Max and Tracca our two best obviously contributed to this but the real fact was and is our lack of depth. We have been losing players and not replacing like for like. But losing Goody at this point in time will just make things worse.

My 3 word player analysis V Umpdogs

Um ...here we are. -
It was a fwd line that failed in four finals. Totally. First with Bbb and then Tmac. The other fwds did dodly squat and the Mfc just closed it's eyes each year . In what other clubs would a bloke like Petty get gifted 18 games for a return of 6 goals. Madness. Now our midfield has collapsed as well. I see trouble in 25 even if the club doesn't again.

Um his 3 word comments are visceral and instinctive. Watching the replay may sometimes give a more accurate response but as most of accept this is not the point of the thread. In any event Joeboy does quite a good job. It's not an easy thread to complete. -

I feel sorry for Tmac. Up until the last two games he has been great in his old...new...role. The ball was coming in at warp speed and he was on two of the best fwds on the comp. He held Hogan until our midfield imploded against the Giants. I think he's still moving quite well. Last night was a shocker but he certainly was not alone -
Fgs how long is Schache contracted for? Please tell me this is his last year. What about Fullerton, McAdam, Hunter and Bbb? Surely we don't need them on our list that is already one short for reasons we can't mention. Please Mfc no more other clubs hand me downs going fwd. Hasn't worked in the slightest. Even Billings has been a bust.

Im not one calling for Goody' s dismissal. Frankly he has enough credit in the bank to keep going. Alas your citing outs and injuries doesn't do it for me. Max played a ripper of a game injured or not. Not an issue. Last time we played the dogs...this season..we beat them quite convincingly. Spargo wasn't playing and Salo wasn't really tearing it part in that game. Gus didn't play either Tracca is the only significant one missing. And to be fair to you, Tracca played a blinder. I'm talking round two this year. Last night we were completely smashed. Let's be honest that score doesn't tell the full story. Dogs missed so many easy ones it could have been a 100 points loss. From what I can gauge there were only five different players between round 2 and last in nights wreck. How can we account for this? Lack of passion. Effort. Pride. Commitment. Those half arsed tackles sum it up. Also Viney, Kozzie, anb, and quite a few other supposed top tier players didn't turn up for consecutive weeks. All when an apparent finals birth was up for grabs. The dogs on the the other hand were the opposite. Hungry. Fast. Tough. Invested. I'm sorry but we were a rabble. Not the way you want to end what started out to be a good season. We have been like chandler this year. Starts out great then disappears. We came back from Gather round with four wins from five. I think we celebrated too early. Since then we have won only six from fifteen. We are a shell of the team we were since then. A team that has played Petty fwd for 18 games when he's only kicked 6 goals. A team whose midfield imploded this year. And finally for some reason our touted backline has followed suite. Not excited about 2025 when this is how we exit 24. -

Such an insipid performance last night. That was really a 100 point thumping given dogs inaccuracy. A woeful lack of effort by us. Jack Viney, Anb, Kozzie, Tmac, Melksham, Sparrow...where were you all? Mentally away on holidays? Thanks Max , Langers, Rivers and a couple of others. But wow what away to bow out of finals. Absolutely obliterated. Our tackling efforts were a disgrace. There is no premiership window anymore with this lot. Apparently they are more than happy with just one. Feel sorry for the youngster's who deserve more leadership. Chandler you are so overated. Petty... please 18 games fwd for six goals . Come on. Our backline has gone the way of our midfield which went the way of our fwd line. This team is gone. Im grateful for the memories and the flag. Last year injuries and Maynard robbed us of our second from this group. But I'm pretty sure the premiership window has been nailed shut now. Ironically it was the dogs to hammer in the last nails. -
That was a one hundred point smashing. Dogs missed so many goals. A lot of young players out there who aren't really ready yet. We lack depth. I hope we don't go and get some more club rejects this off season. Didn't work last time. Our midfield was a shambles again. We have some serious problems and most of them are senior players who should be in their prime.
-
Clarry has struggled all year. Last year Jack Viney stepped up. This year JV has been well down. Sparrow is ordinary always. Tracca out. Bang bang bang. And our fwd line with Petty at the helm for eighteen games gives us six goals. Bang. Lately we've seen our great backline throw in the towel. There is no premiership window.

My 3 word player analysis V Umpdogs

Fairly accurate assessment. I would say that Bowey played one of his better games for the year. Langdon was a bright light as well. Viney didn't look very enthusiastic and your right Kozzie look like he had checked out just like his two games prior. Not good at all. Anb struggled as did a few others. Chandler is way overated. Petty as a fwd averages one goal in just over three games. In what other team would he stay in that role week after week with that low scoring? -

Can't see a flag next year either I'm afraid.
