  1. Agree with you there Bob. While I have only seen both on video, I believe I can still have an opinion about the way a player plays or trends that a player may carry. Of course I agree that you would miss a lot through watching videos only, but you don't need to see a match live to view somebody's kicking technique for example. Based on the footage I have seen on both Trengove and Morabito and having played to a fairly high standard of football myself, I would say that Trengove is the better decision maker of the two. I was once on the "Morabito can't kick" bandwagon but if you look closely, it's not his technique that is wrong. It's his decision making. He seems to rush and blaze away sometimes. Not necessarily a bad thing. It seems that from an outsider's point of view, he has more time than he thinks he has. Now in my (fairly uneducated) view, Trengove seems to have more composure when in possession of the ball and has an aire of confidence about him. Maybe that's part of why he was chosen as captain. Maybe that's why people like myself used to think he had a better kicking action, or could hit targets more often. But coming back to who I think we should draft. Trengove for me still. I think it's just a personal thing but also just the way he plays. He reminds me so much for Joel Selwood. He looks like a ready made player that would make an impact from the start and we haven't had many of them in the past if you think about it. Most of the players we have drafted have been fairly raw, under-developed with lots of room for improvement. (e.g. Watts, Morton, Jetta, Bennell, Blease will be another). Regardless of who we get, I think the next few years will be very exciting. There is a lot of talent there and Bailey and co. are doing a brilliant job with the development of our youngsters. Go Dees.
  2. Both Scully and Trengove would be able to handle the pressures that come with being a number one pick. They are both level headed, captains of their respective sides and confident in the way the play. I don't care which one comes first, as long as they are both running through that banner together next year.
  3. I'm pretty sure they changed it to "fighting" redleg. But who knows.... They are from Adelaide after all....
  4. Me thinks you mean you're* Gary Lyon was hero. I would say his number would be most recognised.
  5. No he doesn't. His kicking has always been a bit iffy. Draft camp. Watch this space..
  6. Hmmm. We know he is capable of great thing's...(in the U/18's). But I feel he will be one of those risky players that will either be something special, or really disappoint. Hence this "X factor" the general public have seemed to place upon him. I wouldn't be able to handle Melbourne picking a risky player. After seeing Trengove and hearing about his dominance in the SANFL I feel he is the one we should pick. I believe he is the safer option and in my opinion he is a better all round player. Will let you in on a little something. Take it as you like... We won't be drafting from WA with pick 2 in the draft.
  7. Didn't ask !! Was too keen on knowing about these two sorry HT.
  8. Anyone that believes throwing pick TWO out on the trade table is crazy. Trengove will be just as good as Scully. Probably show more in his first season as he has a more mature body. We don't hear much about him because he is an SA boy and Scully is obviously the talk of the town in Victoria. But I am telling you, BP rates him very highly. I know there have been rumours flying around, but I can share something that I know is fact. Can't share the source. Scully is a lock in @ #1 #2 is most likely to be Trengove. About 90% lock in. Also depends on how keen he would be to commit to staying in Melbourne. I promise you that we will not be drafting from WA with pick #2. Take it as you may, but I wouldn't bring a rumour that I had heard from a friend to demonland just for the fun. This is 1st person info. Scully is already locked in with #1, Trengove is who we are keen on for #2.
  9. [censored].... ha! Sorry, had to be done. But in all seriousness, I believe Jurrah could be anything. The only worry that I have is about whether or not he can cope with the pressures that come with being an AFL player.
  10. A bit ironic considering Cousins is now playing for the Tiges !
  11. Agree with what you say about Rioli becoming an elite midfielder Jaded but I don't think it's just the bag of tricks that makes everyone's mouth water. He is an amazing all-round player and he would stand out big time if he played for the dee's. Think about his tackle in the grand final last year? He has it all and I honestly mean ALL. I can't think of anything he can't do. Rioli is an absolute gem and my prediction is that he will always be a better/more influential player than Morton. I'm very worried about the amount of hype over Morton's "potential". I guess it's all we have to ease our minds during these rough times. (Dismiss the rhyme). It does and will take time for Morton to gain strength YM. He will still be skinny/thin-ish throughout his career much like Bruce. It's not about excuses. It's all about time with Morton.
  12. In the UK mate. B) Off to the Greek Isles tomorrow though so won't be posting for a while !
  13. I must be missing something Enforcer. How is it that I am disconnected from reality? Because I simply believe that Valenti hasn't been given a real go at proving himself at AFL level?
  14. Maybe we would find out if he was played as regularly as some of our other players. Or if the coaching staff showed as much faith in him as they do with other players. Here's an interesting one. Let's imagine Valenti wasn't a rookie and he was actually picked up in the draft, whatever the pick. I think that would definitely change some people's opinions about him on this forum. Let's use Morton for an example. Number 4 in the 07 draft was it? Has yet to show any signs as to why he was picked at number 4. I understand they are different players, with Morton being 2 years younger and having a body of a stick. But why is it that we show so much faith in Morton, even though he is yet to play an influential game? Because he was picked at number 4? Why is he not learning at Casey? Why is there this perception that Valenti is too small, one dimensional, slow etc etc? He hasn't ever been given a proper opportunity to play at the highest level. We throw players like Morton into the AFL with the big guys and watch his poor decision making, lack of hunger for contested situations and an inability to man the F*@& up when required, but we still play him every game even though his confidence levels rapidly decline every week. Everyone is patient and happy to wait for Morton to "blossom" into this "superstar". What if Morton was a rookie and we were playing him every week? Every single person that rates Morton would be wondering what the hell the coaching staff have been smoking. Players mature and blossom at different times. Everyone is different. This is why so many gems come from the later part of the draft. I have just as much faith in Valenti as I do in Morton. I probably have more to tell you the truth. The games I have watched Valenti play have been just as exciting as Morton's, Grimes, Bennell's, Jetta's, Jurrah's, Watts's and many more of our younger tyre players yet people are happy to wait for the "potential stardom" to come from these younger, more "high profile" players because of the draft system. I don't for one minute doubt that MOST of the players that are picked early rather than later get more gigs than those who are drafted later. And those who are drafted earlier may generally turn out to be better players than those that are drafted later. But it also has to do with how much opportunity players get and how much faith is shown in them Having seen Valenti play as a junior, for Casey and for the Dee's, I can say that from my eyes he has a great kick, clean hands, is not SLOW, has great vision and loves the contested ball. One of the more important thing's he possesses that not many Melbourne players possess is 1 percenter's. He will bust his gut to put a block on, smother and make 2nd and 3rd efforts. The only thing unfortunate about him I believe is something that will never change. His height. However, don't let this put you off because he makes up for it in all those other areas. Valenti should be given a decent crack at AFL level. But if he hasn't had a consistent run before the years out and we end up delisting him, I hope another club picks him up and shows us how stupid we were for showing such little faith in Valenti. Go Dees.
  15. P.S. Doggo, just read your post after I had written mine ha. I'm glad you have a similar view on Morabito.
  16. If we draft Morabito ahead of Trengove I will be furious. I have said this before but how many more players are we going to draft that can't kick?! I don't care how much X-factor he has. The single most important skill in our great game is kicking !!! X- factor is nothing but an unknown variable is it not? In context with footy it would be someone that could "potentially" break the game open yes? I'm not risking losing a player who is well rounded with a great kick to someone that is also well rounded but with an average kick and some "potential" X-factor. What makes people think Morabito has more "X-factor" than Trengove?! We have enough players with this "potential X-factor" on our list. (ie, Jurrah, Watts, Sylvia, Morton? probably a few others) I don't want to draft another player who can't hit a team mate on his own 20 meters in the clear. I want players, (mids in this case) , who will break the lines and hit targets 90 % of the time. Trengove for #2 way ahead of Morabito for me.
  17. Yes he has but not in the kicking department. I wish more of our players could kick.
  18. Agree. Scully and Trengove are the two that are standing out for me and I like the little footage I have seen of them both. Morabito doesn't do it for me at all. I don't know what the hype is about him. I wish people would look at his kicking. We need players that can kick !!! We have very few who can really hit targets. He has a terrible action and from what I have seen blazes away blindly. I hope there is good KP player for us to get with later pick.
  19. Wow. Typical that Melbourne have two players that are around that height and are also down on form and are on the fringe of our list. Congrats on getting me there. What about all of... Matthew Pavlich Matthew Lloyd Chad Cornes Sam Fisher Darren Glass Matthew Scarlett Scott Lucas Ben Rutten Andrew Mackie ? Explain to me in all of your infinite wisdom, how these players are duds? I look forward to your response, or lack of...
  20. You still failed to answer my question. I respect your opinion. I hear your opinion. But I am asking, based on what we have seen from Morton as a footballer thus far, what makes you think he will be a "superstar" as you say. What makes him a very good player right now? All I have heard from you is that he can run hard, push to space and create options which is a great thing as I said in my last post. Does that make him a very good player? As another poster stated. If he was damaging with his disposal then opposition sides would show the kid more respect. Does that not tell you something? He plays loose as hell and for all I care he could rack up 57 possies in a match but unless those possessions are damaging and damaging to sides, then I refuse to predict him becoming a "superstar" let alone a very good player as you say. I am looking forward to how our younger players develop over the years just as you are Mr Morton. It's not that I don't like your post or what you said in it. I am simply asking why you think he is a very good player and will become a superstar, just as you questioned why Morton should be dropped. Personally, I don't know why he hasn't had a run with Casey yet. I don't see any improvements in him this year compared to last year. Do you? If so, what are they? From what I can gather, you enjoyed Scott Clayton's comments about him becoming "one of the best players in the competition" a little too much and the fact that he was snapped up at number "4" in the draft has you drooling. I couldn't care less about when he was picked up in the draft. Andrew Walker - Number 2, 2003 draft. Farren Ray - Number 4, 2003 draft. Michael Rischitelli - Number 61, 2003 draft. Heath Shaw - Number 48, 2003 draft. There is an example of the 2003 draft with some high draft picks and some low draft picks. Which two would you rather in your side? Pretty sure the experts know hey?? Hmmm it seems so. You can find these cases in every draft Mr Morton so don't bore me with this crap about experts knowing because clearly they don't ALWAYS know. No one does. I'm sure the MAJORITY of high draft picks may become better players then low ones but as I have just proved, it's not always the case.
  21. I have an awesome idea.... Let's trade all our players around the 191-192 cm mark for higher draft picks !!! That way, we will have no awkwardly bad players !! Yeh?!
  22. Mr Morton, We understand you have a man crush on Cale Morton but don't let this blinding love for him make you another one of these "one eyed" dees fans who will honestly make the most outlandish remarks about his or her favorite player/s. It's quite sad really. It's people like you who really do put pressure on players (like Cale) to perform.... Superstar?!?! Explain to me right now what makes you think he will be a "SUPERSTAR" ? Clearly you have seen something in him that I haven't and I would like to know what? - Second season of AFL - Finds it difficult to hit targets under no pressure. (regardless of this kicking efficiency bullocks). Even if the ball gets to its intended target it will be either because the player has yards of space and he can run onto it, or he will make Morton's kick look good by taking a grab under pressure. - Rarely tackles. - Can rarely withstand a tackle. (Will generally blaze a handball away blindly). - Rarely takes contested marks. Now. While you showed some stats of his from matches this season, I still find it hard to see why you talk so highly of him. Wow he accumulates a lot of possessions for a 19 year old proving he has a big engine. I will agree with you that it is great to have that running ability at 19 years of age but it will only be truly effective when he starts hitting targets, tackling, marking etc. I don't for one second doubt that he won't improve (to some extent) all of these other facets of his game. But what is it that makes you think he will be a superstar or even a very good player? He is 19 as you say. Let the kid play. How can you have a go at someone for asking for him to be dropped? He has been below average the last couple of weeks, especially his decision making. Why shouldn't he be dropped? Maybe it will instill some determination for improvement in the kid? Maybe it would be good for him to go back to Casey and really concentrate on his decision making? Maybe it's hampering his improvement by consistently playing him in the ones every week, knowing that he will be played the following week regardless of much he butches the ball? I'm sure if Morton was played under Neil Craig, he would be a far more advanced player by being made to "earn" his spot. I'm sick and tired of ridiculous comments made by biased Melbourne supporters. I'm all up for being positive and excited about our youngsters, but to say they are going to be superstars based on the ability to "run" is absurd. Let's see where they all are in a couple of years. P.S. Mr Morton, If you are going to be anal and dob in others for the use of bad grammar, punctuation and spelling.... You should really try reading over your posts just to make sure you are 100 %. B) Let the kids play.
  23. Absolute nuff nuffs. Every one of you that points the finger at Bailey. How can you blame Bailey for: -Not being able to kick -Not being able to tackle -Not being accountable -Not being able to kick If our players got the basics right, then we would be competitive. How you can blame Bailey is beyond me. We cannot implement his game plan yet because we can't even master the basics of AFL. Your lack of understanding and naivety of the game is plain to see rodent killer. Open your eyes.
  24. No he is not the only one. However he is young and should be able to hit a target from 20 meters without an opponent. Grimes has been taking the kick outs and has done a very good job. Yes he may have sprayed a couple but every time Morton is about to kick, I get scared. It's a worry when you draft an 18 year who struggles to hit targets under no pressure whatsoever. Kicking is the main facet of the game.
