  1. Nat Jones set shots were beautiful today... at least the ones he snagged! Take a look at all games this 'bye' round. Some respected footballers were very ordinary in their set shots. Jones is scragged by opposition teams for 120 minutes each week. He still comes up with 30 + posies and snags goals that have to be snagged. Stop living your (football) lives through the stat sheet or you will end up like Kingy!
  2. I went to the game after watching first 40 minutes at Punt Road. On that note, Hulett is solid but fades out of game for significant periods. Weiderman is far more impressive for mine. He has excellent hands and a good leap & good boot on him. I would get him in before Hulett, even though the latter has an AFL build. Brayshaw and Oliver are very good, as you would be aware. Brayshaw is ready for a return. Now for the main game... Lost it , asleep at the wheel in the first 5 minutes of third corner. Abysmal effort after such a hot second quarter! A few observations... Gawn's hits to the back were regularly mopped up by Adelaide at centre bounces and the tactic needs serious re-appraisal. We missed Wagner. Petracca and Hogan took marks in our forward 50 that were called "play on". Hogan was then robbed of a free kick when he had his head pulled off from the player who was attempting to spoil. Razor Ray made a terrible mistake with that free against Stretch for holding the ball. Hogan needed to convert the gift free for deliberate hitting it through. However, his slick hands on at least two other occasions resulted in brilliant goal assists. Hunt's dash is electrifying and he is also courageous. Jeff proved why a player of his ilk does not have to star at VFL level before getting a recall (the hysteria about I'm not earning his spot was ludicrous... shame on you! You know who you are!). Overall, a very good indication of where we are at... now able to match fancied top eight teams who are on a winning streak! Those that wonder if we have improved need look no further than our percentage... almost another 100 point game today!
  3. 6 - Watts 5 - Garlett 4 - Hunt 3 - Hogan 2 - N Jones 1 - Gawn
  4. Qtr time Casey 21 Rich 14. Dropped away in second half of Qtr. Wasted a few entries. Tigers got into their game plan. Weiderman very impressive hands. Oliver feeding it out beautifully by hand. Newton effective inside 50's early on. Brayshaw busy around the ground
  5. At Punt Rd, all in readiness for a start. Weather mild and dry, grey skies, only slight breeze.
  6. 6 - Gawn 5 - Vince 4 - Jones 3 - Hogan 2 - Kent 1 - T McDonald
  7. Jeffy had opportunities yesterday but he stuffed them up. He could have had his regulation 2 goals with a tad more poise. We don't drop a two goals per game forward on the back of one bad game! I'd bring in Kennedy for Harmes.
  8. Petracca got involved, just didn't hit up targets often enough
  9. What a surprise! Free kick count at Simmonds Stadium 28 to 12 in favour of the Cats late in the final Qtr..... Any chance of getting a group of umpires who don't get swept up by the volume of the supporters?
  10. I can't understand how the umpiring fraternity get so sucked in to the blatant ducking. It would be fixed in two consecutive weekends if those who get paid for understanding the rules (but have no sense of the spirit of the game - Vince's report a case in point!) were informed by the hierarchy that they are being made to look stupid by first gamers who have learnt how to milk these professional adjudicators in front of 50,000 witnesses!!!!!!!
  11. We were pretty much level at three quarter time with the reigning Premiers. We still had a chance 15 minutes from full time...but your summary only includes 9 positive contributions. I rest my case.
  12. I was at the game. Oscar struggled early but I thought his last quarter was solid. In the end, I had him ahead of his brother, who always struggles below his knees. I may be wrong, but I don't think Gunston scored a goal in the second half and the few times I looked down to see who was on him it was Oscar (obviously the backs rotate). I think Oscar will develop into a good player but he is getting games earlier than I would have liked. I can understand the thinking of the match committee and I am confident they know what they are doing.
  13. It should be an embarrassment to the umpire panel and the AFL that the opposing coach has gone on record as saying the head high situation has to change. Clarkson says that the ducking is a bad result for the game and it could be changed with a flick of the fingers (or a flick of a switch for dumbar%$ umpires who don't have clue! Drop the stupid P&ricks!)
  14. Baum's version of Viney's altercation with Ebert is the equivalent of a Shaun Tait wide! As soon as Viney turned and pushed out at Ebert, the latter threw an elbow to Viney's chest, Viney's first two slaps were a warning but Ebert showed signs of wanting to go on with it. He was advancing and Viney threw the third, more emphatic blow which finished things.
  15. We looked mediocre, we played mediocre, we're placed mediocre, we seem happy with mediocre. There was never a time today when a player, or players, looked [censored] off about being mediocre!
  16. Apart from first 15 minutes, we were never in the game. No excuses for venue, weather, selection, or 6 day break. We didn't give enough (across the board). The players own this loss, not the coaches. Our blokes looked second rate. We have gained credibility in the Media in the last month but this was an unacceptable loss. I'm angry about the overall effort. I don't think we have moved far from 2015.
  17. Have to agree with previous posters, made an ordinary team under immense pressure look half ok. Any anxiety from match committee to play Trengove, Dawes, Dunn & Grimes should now be put to sleep.
  18. Disappointing, to say the least Tyson was obviously not over his illness. Oscar is no way a better option than Dunn at this stage. Newton and Neale Bullen did not take their opportunity Petracca's worst game Midfield did not work despite Gawn playing well Kennedy had a bad one Harmes had a bad one
  19. only if our injured list hits 23 on 4 to 6!!!! On the cusp of the 8 and we're resorting to whim and fancy! Dawes will fill CHF as soon as he dominates the position for Casey. He's getting there, but not quite yet. Oscar, H, Grimes, Dunn, & White would all be ahead of Dawes as a backman.
  20. I knew Vince would get off the first time I watched the replay! Vince knew he would get off as soon as he was reported and he told the ump as much. Vince tried to avoid forceful contact to the head. He was moving through at pace and then checked himself when he made contact to Wallis' upper shoulder so that he wouldn't crunch him on the jaw... only incidental, accidental contact that was inconsequential and the adjudicators got it right. Several Demonlanders hung Vince before the trial!
  21. Can't see why Vince will get suspended for a bump on the shoulder and no real impact on the player he supposedly hit 'high'. Gawn was well beaten alright... by the maggots! The umpires continually let the Bulldog ruckman impede his run at the ball while allowing Bonts to have a clear hit as third man up. Contrast this approach by the maggots to the free against Hickey for impeding Goldstein! Oliver's minimal impact had him top 5 for handballs and around top 5 or 6 for tackles! Apart from that DemonLAd5, I reckon you're pretty close!
