  1. Fair call. Also I find it hard to be sympathetic toward the EFC players when sportsmen and women in this country and across the world have to live with their decisions regarding doping. Ignorance of what you have taken or casting blaming on others (ie coach or club) is not a legitimate excuse. AFL footballers should not be treated any differently than any other professional sportsperson.
  2. We talk about the players, Hird and the rest of the gang and that gang includes our new coach.
  3. A couple of EFC acquaintances of mine, were happy to see him go and had a quiet snigger that MFC had picked him up. Reminded me of the snigger from my brother in law when we picked up Dawes and HH, In summary they regarded JM as a dumb footballer and turnover king. However on the plus side, Goodwin must believe that it will be a worthwhile pickup. Also one of the EFC supporters is a complete DH and hates Melbourne.
  4. That's a much better response than your earlier post. I agree with some of your comments. However, it is not up to clubs or players to argue the merits of different substances and products. It is not an exact science as you say. However, banned substances are banned substances and all sportsmen and women have a responsibility to know what they are taking and whether it is banned. No international athlete can say they did not know or that they were mislead by someone else. If you take banned substances knowingly or not you are regarded as a cheat and treated as such if your charge is proven. Athletes that take banned substances are seeking to gain an unfair advantage over their competition.
  5. Over the years I have read many opinions on drugs in sport, but these two justification propositions are truly remarkable. You criticize SWYL comments as childish, however, your comments are truly foolish.
  6. CB don't do this to us. I always feel deflated after premature expectation.
  7. Maybe, does provide depth beyond that is debatable.
  8. I think we know from his EFC days what he brings.

If we trade Wagner or Harmes I will jump off an MCG light tower. These two guys have so much upside. More importantly, they are competitive beasts who love the contest. You don't trade these type of guys particularly after years of having a team of softies.
  10. Yes , although I am not fussy.
  11. Like my novels, my writing is fictional Moon, from a foundation of personal experience. I no longer use traditional medicinal therapies as i have no time for the pharmaceutical companies. There are other therapies that are much more effective but I draw the line at thrashings or floggings.
  12. Strongly recommend pineapples indeed any fruit other than bananas. If you are tempted to have a banana after reading posts on this thread you know it's time to go cold turkey. Also time to go cold turkey if you start to develop an affectionate feeling toward any of the posters, one in particular. And, if after a period of time, you begin to feel this is normal, you definitely need to seek medical advice.
  13. Time you went cold turkey and went back to pineapples rather than bananas.
  14. Reassuring to see nothing has changed. Well that's one view.

Amazing, we have just had a famous win and folks are talking about who we get rid of at season end.
  16. sorry Bitter, there are some exceptions best not to burst your bubble!
  17. Like everyone on this site/thread, the Earl has many different personas. Like reality TV, this thread is not reality.
  18. Like your creative thinking Youami. I suppose the other obvious thing to say is that those coaches had great lists of talented and driven footballers as a result of great recruiting of young talent and experienced talent that was allowed to flourish in a successful environment. That was certainly the case with Smith at Melbourne and Barassi at Carlton and North. I would not put Blight in that same frame. For a period with Smith and Barassi, success built on success just as we see today with the top teams. Hopefully we are creating that environment at Melbourne. The other comment to make is that the coaches you mentioned had very strong values, and they imparted strong discipline and team rules. They made tough decisions and were uncompromising in their attitudes. They also had the respect but not necessary the love of their players. If you link Goodwin to these attributes he has a lot to live up to. He apparently is loved by the players but he had yet to gain the respect of his players, club and football world. He will need to achieve early team success and show us that he is a leader and coach with strong values who is uncompromising in his quest for success. He will need to develop the right culture and a game plan that works. He will also need to break some players hearts along the way.
  19. If you are looking for class Red, you have the wrong man. You must be thinking of another writer. I think also that this is not a thread for people with class rather more for a bunch of ratbags, nut bags , eccentrics and those with a vivid imagination or a well worn unreality. Now in my quiet moments I can identify with these disparate elements but I don't like to be reminded of my own deficiencies or be reminded of them by the ruffians on this thread. Redleg and OD excluded.
  20. Just thought I would check after banishing myself from this thread for some time. Pleased that nothing has changed. Still the same characters trying to one-up and outwit one another. Too much competition. I will check back in 4 weeks.
  21. or the indian fertilizer company linked to uncle joe.
  22. a tiges supporter?
  23. i must admit, it is not the Ernest of old contributing to this narrative. I have lost a lot of weight and enjoyment for life. I am sorry Earl for not catching up with you but I am in a mid winter mood swing when I prefer to be alone with my thoughts. I appreciate that I am still remembered and perhaps valued in a small way. I find that I am no longer able to write and my last novel has been shelved. I feel it will never be written and all that I am now able to do is write short posts on this site, particularly this thread that is so ambiguous and full of fellow eccentrics and the odd egocentric. I hope for good news tomorrow at the bull ring.
  24. How has Bitters avoided being thrown into a Malaysian lockup? Given that Anwar Ibrahim has been locked up for alleged activities that would be minor offences on the Bitter list of interests. i know he is not a politician but he is a white Australian who would not go unnoticed in the police state that is Malaysia. I think it fortunate that he got out in time.
  25. Welcome back to the honourable and innuendo free banana. I had a lovely sweet organic banana on my muesli this morning. It was delicious. Redleg does Mrs Redleg like a ripe banana herself ? What about any little Redlegs? Wow this is such a healthy smut free post. No doubt we will be hearing from virtuous cleanskin Old Dee very soon. Wonder if anyone else will bite? No, I am not going to mention the obvious.
