The Devil Inside replied to DirtyDees DDC's topic in Melbourne Demons
Not necessarily, bit like supercoach points, depends on how you interpret them But the rest agree with, so do most of the players I speak to, they/we all want the ball movement/kicking that is now being displayed at training to transfer to match day, why Roos spends so much time on it, but he has adopted the KISS approach, he knows if we can get the bloody thing up there quick enough, we have enough talent there now to convert it -

That is a bit strangulated, do you mean you rarely miss kicks, or you do miss, or you don't miss at training but do on matchday. Comprehension seems to be an issue today, I have been explaining that Roos is coaching them, doing the same drills over and over again, so come match day, pressure or not, it is second nature . I have played at the level of the Ovens and Murray, me I am UK born and couldn''t hit a set shot to save my life, (on the run, completely different story, best goal volley in mid air without grabbing it) ,so coaches had players ready to receive the handball if I couldn't run on, called coaching, Roos realises it is not the kicking but the perceived pressure so is coaching to eradicate that -

Been down the track of McKenzie's disposal efficiency previously, it is at the standard of a solid AFL player, but if you want to continue down that path, feel free, I will never win against the mindset of some supporters. The point I have been trying to make is that I agree some of the kicking in the last few years has been poor, poor because it has been rushed, wrong option, etc etc, so Roos has them kicking and kicking and kicking. and kicking Yesterday no kicks missed the target they were aimed for, he even had them bombing it in to the 50 to a contest, is this a poor kick?, no it is the 'get out jail kick' being practiced, best bit of this was JKH and Garlett buzzing around the feet of the big boys. The two incidents I have highlighted, Tyson stopped the run when he should have just kicked to Hogan, Roos let him know in no uncertain terms he is to take the simple option, Terllch kicked to a 1 in 3 because it was Hogan, when Jonesy was all on his own, hence the almighty spray he gave Terlich It beggars belief that some supporters don't think the players practice their kicking and want to get better, I too though expect a must better showing this year, mainly because of what Roos is coaching -

No, nor exactly, some always covet other teams players, get over it We have one example last year of a players who was supposedly no good, Nev Jetta, getting fit, doing a full preseason and being played in a position he likes to play in, so let's wait and see shall we Some others have seen what I am seeing, Ross getting them to perform the same thing over and over again, creating multiple options and taking the simple one, till it becomes second nature, the two incidents, Roos with Tyson and Jones and Terlich were because they didn't do it. A lot of the so called kicking errors come from the actual decision making rather than the kicking, you can't be on an AFL list if you can't kick . If Tommy Mc is coming out of defence and he looks up and has the runner(s) exactly where he/they should be coz they have practiced it so many times, he does what is now second nature and kick perfectly to him, like he did yesterday On match days it will be the same, coz everybody is on the same page, and Roos will be only playing those players who do exactly what they are supposed to do, so we won't have Tommy Mc looking downfield to one on three or four and have no alterhatives and then turning it over because of panic In answer to the frills and the opposition for the drills, Roos varies it, from witches hats to actual contesting and tackling -

Getting better and better, it meant the supposedly poor kicks, you know the usual suspects the hair shirt wearing lemon suckers pick on here, Tommy Mc did not miss a target today, neither did Matt Jones, only one who badly fluffed a kick was Dean Terlich who got a real ear bashing from Nathan Jones for not taking the simple option, his next kick was down the throat -

Answers - Vandenberg, looks the part, but is going to have competition, like everybody else The kicking was good across the whole squad today, Roos has got runners everywhere, so there are easy options, and players are 'encouraged' to take them, the 'poor kicks 'supposedly' are getting better each time I watch the match sim, Jack Grimes followed the ball down on one run and slammed through the goal post height on the run from just inside the 50 Matt Jones and a few others are noticeably quicker, Watts, JKH, Toumpas Most of the squad today was pretty good, I only picked out the ones that stood out to me and heard Roos praise, I am biased when it comes to Nev My lovely lady saw Jack Watts minus the jumper on Monday, she said he looks nothing like the photo which makes him look 12, why does everybody still think he weighs 70k, McCartney starts in next week or two Hair shirt itchy today Clint? -

Jack Trengove is hoping to get out of the moonboot in the next couple of weeks, very positive Ben Mathews is good, I asked him about the ball movement today he said it was 'pretty good', before Xmas one session was 'ordinary', Daniel Cross who is bluntly honest said it was pretty good as well Misson was not joking when he said it would take 3 years, today we had over 30 players all looking fit and firing, of all the drills, we went coast to coast very fast at least half a dozen times, one involved 4 kicks -

I was speaking to one of the fitness guys, apart the endurance running, Roos wanted more leg speed on everybody if it was possible, some of the speed on display today was very good, JKH, Watts, Toumpas, Matt Jones, Bail are all showing that the work has happened -

Up and about is not the word, he was bouncing around, actually a funny bit, he leapfrogged over I think it was Dunny by jumping up and putting hands on shoulders, Jeff Garlett was so impressed he did the same over Jesse, some serious natural leap I actually said to Jesse all I would put on Denonland today was that Jesse Hogan was being looked at as a ruck going forward, he was highly amused, -

Sorry forgot one of the best in match sim coz he left session early, Watts, has gained a couple of metres of speed, burnt off a couple of opponents, reckons it's just all the extra running and Watt bike work actually doing it's job And for those who think he is slow, in one match sim, JImmy Toumpas ran down JKH from behind- 115 replies

What closed session, I was there and it was a really good session, from Ben Mathews and Daniel Cross 'it was pretty good' Lots of match sim and setting up the game plan, hence the closed session Standouts for me in the match sim, Jones x 2, Kent, Garlett, Garland, Jetta, Hogan, Stretch, Newton, Michie Roos wants the first simple option taken, and lots of movement so there are options, he pulled one run up because Dom Tyson stopped to try and get around him man, instead of kicking straightaway to Hogan who had got free in the 50, gave Tyson a gobfull Injury news, every member of the squad made an appearance at some time or other, Howie did a few little dance steps and a couple of handballs and left for a swim and weights, conservative estimate at least 4 weeks, Neal Bullen, was a bit down, just watched for half an hour, another 4 weeks, not sure whether they are going to operate just at the moment, being assessed Mitch White has a big toe injury, was keeping Jack Trengove company, latest visit to doctor for Jack was on Tuesday, all still progressing well Others on light duties or rehab, King, Oscar Mc, Bernie Vince (he is week away from full training) Other notes, Jake Lovett did the whole session, including the match sim, had to look for him, which was really good, no glaring mistakes, had a chat to him, top bloke, hopes to impress, didn't seem that knackered with all the running, so perhaps he is already doing extra Aaron Vandanberg's body shape is already changing, amazing what full time training can do, he is a big midfielder I though Billy Stretch would spend most of year at Casey, looked excellent today, speed to burn, didn't miss a kick What back Injury, during the session the ruck division got together, Jamar, Spencer, Gawn, Fitzpatrick, Pedersen and Hogan to do a bit of tap work and second effort, Hogan picked up Gawn at one stage and drove him into the ground, wonderful to watch, didn't get it on camera though, but there are others on my Twitter Demonpk Spoke to Dean Kent afterwards, he is finally fully fit and firing, feeling great Got the guns photo today and a half ... Sam Frost Again any questions feel free- 115 replies

Didn't you notice nobody else quoted Cards, it's rubbish, as you can see from Howe, my injury reports are usually spot on, there is nothing wrong with Hogan's hammy -

I think they are looking at Vandenberg, but Harmes is giving himself every chance Bail is training for the role he had last year, wing and forward Salem is cool, he likes the tweets, he told me, bit of banter between soccer supporters, hence the Arsenal reference in the tweets, he did whinge to the referee (umpire) and got derided by everybody including the coaches Everybody is a human being here, I get heaps from Howie, Vince, Toumpas, Jamar, Garland and Dunn, it's all good fun -

Great report Ruffles, I can't be arsed describing all the drills, I pick a highlight or two Can confirm Clint that Jake/Jack? Lovett was the one in the cap on Monday. I understand the angst that Watts' has brought to some supporters, but clean slate, I had the joy of standing next to one of the supporters who watches training and criticises everything, I lasted a millisecond or two, if a player does not perform under Roos to Roos' satisfaction, they are going to get used to the trip to Casey this year. (Last year when Watts was available he picked him, there is serious competition this year) I love Garlett when he turns up for the session, he trudges up like he is going to the dentist, then just tears it up and then trudges off again. laconic doesn't even cover it They finally had the training tops with the numbers on arrive, but cocked it up rather, Vandenberg wore 9 and Frost was in 21, so I assume they somehow lost these 2? Ruffles glad you noticed the Salem bit, you will have seen he has got quite the body on him now, but doesn't use it to everybody's satisfaction, think he was too used to using the footy smarts as a junior, they have him bodying up quite a bit during training Harmes had glandular fever before Xmas, knocked him around, finally back at full fitness, knows even as a rookie, Roos will look at him, he is getting better and better each session, Josh Mahoney comment....'a good young kid...very coachable' Oscar McDonald I think was just getting the 'kid' session that the others have had, left early after not doing much -
