Being ex Fitzroy I remember that game only to well. But it isn't just adelaide some of the free kicks the swans got when they first went to sydney were just as rediculous. The powers that be want these interstate sides and AFL franchises up north to succeed. It's all about TV ratings and corporate earnings, they care little about the history and culture of our game.

I reckon our club which actually represents the city of melbourne and it's environs should be able from time to time wear the jumpers of the dear departed teams aka Fitzroy and South Melbourne as a way of honouring old er Melbourne clubs. Now stay with me on this, we could become Melbourne United and stick it up that jumped up soccer club melbourne city. Also it would at least partially solve our clash jumper issue.

I agree with this post. I've always suspected that the people running this game want us to become more professional and americanised. And because of this the game has lost it's innocence. Younger people on this forum really never saw this game when it had a sense of beauty and grace. It may have been slightly slower but it was much much more exciting to watch.

You don't see the american cultural parallels the AFL has tried to plant in our game ? You must be blind dude.

Well as an ex rusted on Fitzroy supporter and member I can tell you that as a family we moved to the Melbourne football club when the AFL sent our old club ( in name only really ) to Brisbane. We had to ask ourselves if we wanted to give our hard earned and time to a club that was nearly two thousand Kms away. After we agreed not to do what Oakley and the commission wanted us to do and loving actually going to the footy we looked around the clubs in the city and decided on Melbourne. Why ? Well for a start it holds the name of the great city we lived in and the rest of the clubs were representing just suburbs. I can tell you now that even through the tough and challenging times we've loved this beautiful historic old club and I personally have been a member now for 16 years. That's Gold Jerry ! Anyway if the circumstances are severe enough you can change. Oh and it's great to have Roosy back .
