  1. TK, watch Gawn's last two or three games....he gets his hands to a lot of ball, but they just don't stick.

He has to learn to use his backside and hips to absorb some of the pressure that comes from behind.

And that will come when he has size and belief in his strength to beat opponents. Let's agree to disagree.

  2. If Gawn was a marking threat inside 50 then he'd be in the side. Watching him get outbodied and outmarked by Garrick Ibbotson - 21cm shorter - against Freo was one of the more embarrassing things I've seen this year and I reckon big Maxy would agree.

I love that the Casey watchers are talking up his marking - it's a sign of progress, but I agree with BBO and others that it's been an area he's struggled in this year.

Isn't this more to do with him lacking an AFL body and being pushed aside by the big boys? When Max gets a run and jump at the footy I believe he has very good hands.

  3. Max has clunked a few at AFL level. More than Jamar and Spencer combined in recent times. And getting himself AFL fit will allow him to get to more contests to give himself an opportunity to contest a few more.

  4. He wont be missed

A top 5 pick will be massive overs for him

    Huge win for the MFC

Seriously??? Tom McDonald does a calf in the pre-season and we have enough KPD's to cover him???? We're playing WCE at Pattersons in R2 and we've got enough quality key backs to cover Kennedy, Darling, McGovern and Cox???? We will get good compo for Chip. But we will miss him big-time in the short term.

  5. I'd say it's the overall cattle. It's not good enough to sustain 4 quarters.

On the plus side it sounds as though Gawn had a ripper of a game. More of that for Melbourne would be nice.

Gawn's body and general fitness won't allow him him to do it for MFC. Yet. An injury free preseason where he can build his tank and an AFL body and we'll see Max deliver his Casey performances on the big stage.

  6. That's quite a reference.

Was he given a 2 year contract after being on the RL for two years? Funny how Evans was only given the one year.

He got two years after being upgraded. I'm only guessing here but was Pickles' one year contract a case of the club being concerned about his back injury at the time? It was a real show of faith from the club that ME was upgraded considering his injury circumstances.
  7. It can't be right. What happens if another team wants him? Do they have to pay the contract demands of his current contract which may be higher? He can't take a paycut he's contracted but the rookie draft benefit is they only have to pay them 60,000 so by having a contracted player in it it'd restrict too much.

Nicholson is here to stay, and we won't be delisted or rookied.

Any club that drafts him must meet the financial demands of his contract. It's not that hard to understand.

  8. Rather than delisting Nicho and then rookieing him, I prefer Redleg's idea that we entice Byrnes to retire and offer him a playing coach role with Casey which could end up a Win-Win-Win outcome for Byrnes, MFC and Casey by ensuring he is not out of pocket and continuing his football career whilst gaining coaching experience, we get the best available player in the PSD and Casey is strengthened in their playing/coaching depth courtesy of MFC.

Tell him he would be behind Kent, JKH, Barry, and that he would be limited for opportunities??? This would be a great result.
