  1. No. I think Big Red has covered it well. If I recall correctly Newton had hardly performed at VFL level at that point.
  2. Great post Big Red and I share your view.
  3. Exactly my point. Skinfolds tests are a good start. But I dont think short stint cameos are a reasonable return from a highly paid expereienced player who has let the Club down significantly. I totally agree with Dappa Dan. However I would add a further point that he plays good football over four quarters a match for the rest of the games this year. Madness, was the "huffing and puffing" pre cautionary for Friday night?
  4. He must have dropped considerable weight since Sunday at TBO where he was huffing and puffing in the last quarter. <_<
  5. You completed 7 grades before that! You accused her of extreme bias or "biest". There was no evidence of that in her posting. Now Jarka, which non English speaking country is involved here?
  6. They were not at all. I made no reference to non English speaking people. Its that sort of wooden thinking that would make A Current Affair blush.
  7. Nice try at the discrimination angle but I inferred nothing of the sort.
  8. Jaded is entitled to her opinion and I dont always agree with her. But more often than not her posts are on or close to the money. I have found nothing extreme about her posts and admire her thoughtful passion. Her comments on Bell are pretty accurate too. I actually find grammatically challenged posts lacking alot of credibility.
  9. I was always brought up that respect is earnt. Pickett has not earned it at MFC. *Bows head respectfully* Correction Pickett was an elite sportsman who has a history of poor discipline and waywardness at three clubs. Why should I be thankful for an apparently "elite" senior experienced player on our list that cannot commit like other players to the minimum fitness levels then at the Clubs darkest hour heads out on the fizz the night before a game and rings the Coach as says "Sorry chief I am too [censored] to play"? Clearly the leadership group are so thankful to have him that they slapped the extended suspension on him following his booze up. Make no mistake he has milked the Club for 300k this year and cheated every other player on the list with his pathetic commitment to the team's effort. What a waste of the limited Club resources. I certainly don't embrace players in the Red & Blue that fundamentally dont put in. Its Round 12 and he still cant run out a VFL game. He is still overweight and out of condition. The sad thing is he COULD have given so much to Melbourne and we saw glimpses of it between Round 3 and 17 last year. The rest has been crap. And like I said his past decorations are worthless to where he is now and what MFC needs. And he is a long way from delivering on that.
  10. Brilliant pick up Champ!. Its was done in 1962 by Barry Humphries and it is as sharp now as it has been for 40 years. The endearing line is: "...believe you me it's a great life up there amongst the snow community and you can really have a ball, no matter which of the major schools you went to.." Absolute Gold. Prima facie case of car theft and house burglary if Port supporters are there.
  11. Did Ray Biffin play full back against Peter Hudson in the first round of 1972 when Hudson did his knee? Huddo was on fire with eight goals up to half time. FWIW, Peter McKenna used to give Biffin a bit of trouble.
  12. Well done Jaded. You take the points. I thought 2 reports in 2 years is hardly nutcase material. From watching Bode play he's pretty much at the ball so I cant see the significance of his mental state being in question. Madness, given the poor quality of the disposal of Sandy I would have had a terrible temper on the ground. I am glad a player is [censored] off when he makes a dumb error. For too many in the red & blue, a mistake is too often water off a ducks back!!
  13. Cameron Mooney must be certifiably insane. Its really neither here nor there as I cant see Bode being considered for a further rookie year in 2008 and he is not good enough to be elevated.
  14. He is still not fit nor is he in decent shape at the moment. I feel sympathetic to timD's and Tiggers view. However he justifies his selection on fitness and form just like any other player. You can stuff his past decorations as they are history. His attitude and performance this year have been pathetic given where MFC's season has been. For someone near 30 it is very poor. If and only if he actually starts to perform up to standard for the rest of this year would I even consider him for next year. If so he will only be on match payments at best. From his game at Sandy today, he is still well off on form and fitness.
  15. I have an account of Neitz's injury and given Brocky's comments......Hmmm
  16. Saw the game from the second quarter onwards.... After quarter time and especially half time, Sandy had so much of the ball but overused it badly. When they had a strong wind in the last and Sutner and Newton up forward why did they get cute with the short kicks and the meaningless handballs. Too many players were chasing stats today. Many of the AFL Demons in the team were equally at fault. 28 scoring shots to 23 shots. Sandy should have won with the amount of ball they had. Generally, I thought most of the MFC players just went today and did not progress their claims on todays form for AFL selection. My take on the AFL senior players: Pickett - Offered a real spark in the second quarter but ran out of steam in the last quarter. Still query level of fitness and condition for AFL. Cameos are not enough. Whelan - Serviceable without being outstanding. Still made some skill errors which have prevalent during his mediocre 2007. I am concerned whether he is best 22 atm when fit. Newton- As normal did some serviceable but did not apply it consistently and faded in and out of the game. Hope he learns something about wet weather football. Defintely has the skill to make if he can bridge that issue of consistency and application. Miller- Struggled with usual brain fades. Inconsequential today. Dunn - Expected him to be a class player in this level but lapsed in and out of the game with a fair number of skill and decision making errors. Garland - Raw but I think has the potential to come on. Solid and active. Worthy performance in the wet. I would expect he is still someway off selection at this point. Gave a good account of himself. Warnock - Got a fair bit of the ball especially under pressure but some of his disposal suffered under the conditions. Buckley - Just went today and did not put his hand up for selection. For Box Hill Hawks, I was very impressed with Muston. I understand he is coming back from serious injury but if he had an Sandy jumper on I would be really enthused about him.
  17. Very good summations Old, Pants and timD. Although I dont think he will make it as a forward.
  18. Its not about being selfish Ox. Forwards are primarily their to create the opportunity to score goals by winning and using the ball in contested and uncontested situations. A defenders primary responsibility is to defend and prevent the forward from doing so. I think it requires greater skills to create and convert opportunities under pressured contested situations than to negate them.
  19. Nice work. Rather than debate my point about backman and forwards you make a negative stereotype generalisation about Miller. So you have backed Y_M and suggest that Miller never play AFL again and then suggest we "let him develop up forward" when we seem to be agreement that he cant make it there. Given the pattern of trading in the AFL over the past 5 years who in their right mind would trade for a player like Miller that cant make it in the AFL? He has no trade value and he will be out of contract next year We have this year and next year to see if he can make something of himself as a footballer. But he has shown that he aint going to make it up forward.
  20. I have also heard that he likes women too! Honestly, your comments on TJ are some of the most derogatory and uninformed rubbish you would read on a supporter site. If you feel you have further comments like that about TJ or any other player, I suggest you keep it to yourself and not post it.
  21. As much as I dislike the Pies and that overrated 200cm marshmallow, Fraser, I thought his mark under pressure in the goal square was first class. Green's two marks in the last quarter were good stabilising marks from a player that has matured much in the past year and is not often credited for the hard in and under work he does.
  22. The fact that you have aligned yourself with YM, really undermines your capacity to challenge how smart others are. Its simple BB. It requires greater skill to play KPF and create the play than it necessarily does to play KPB. IMO Miller clearly does not have the skill set required to play KPF. His only hope is to make it in AFL is as a KPB. His endeavour, athleticism and his capacity to play body on body offers some glimmer of hope to making it down back. Your basis for writing him off as a backman based on his performance up forward is flawed.
  23. Really? Any chance the Sydney Football Club Board might have made the decision? <_<
  24. I am at a loss how people can claim that Miller wont make as defender but should be persevered with in a KPF role. Scoop Junior summed him perfectly. If and if he is going to make it...it will be up back. I cant work out why he would be better at FF when he cant get a contested touch inside F50.
