  1. Agree. I was surprised that a player with 13 years of AFL footy experience would not be aware of what was involved in coaching at AFL re commitment. He then went and joined a Club where the head coach and assistant coach dont talk to each other! Another bold move. Can someone explain what Ratten tangibly achieved at MFC in 12 months that makes him so highly rated?
  2. ....And are interested in coaching a Club with no money, restricted budget on player development etc and sub standard training and Club facilities.
  3. How do you know that? How do you know that Voss wont get more money at Carlton? Do you know if Voss is interested in coaching MFC? Like I said there is a process that the Board should undertake and its not 2 minute noodles. I want the Club to select the best coach and I want them to undertake a proper process not a kneejerk decision.
  4. I was thinking the Club should appoint Marcia Hines and Kyle Sutherland to assist in selection.
  5. Should we also put Ratten, Viney, Connolly and Sheedy in there as well as they have all been mentioned as potential? We could interview each them at half time and after the game and asked them.."Now would you have done this or what would you have done at half time?" We may need a bigger coaching box.
  6. Not at all Kit. Caro Wilson mentioned it in the paper yesterday and it has been said on this site prior to you joining
  7. Lets focus on actually finding a coach first (we are not making 2 minutes noodles!) and let someone who has served the Club well over long period of time finish with some dignity.
  8. Like Pettard, Garland, Frawley, Dunn, Bate, Jones etc......
  9. ...... Just like Paul Roos and John Worsfold. Neitz will retire in a year.
  10. Besides MFC, Freo would have to be as close in the underperforming stakes and who's been coach...Connolly. He does not build culture and does not get the best out of his list. I dont see the fixation with getting a failed coach just because he is ex-MFC. Whether he has played for MFC or not is neither here nor there and I dont see what tangible benefit it would bring to MFC that a coach from a non MFC background would not. Who is it Molan?
  11. Sorry BB. I said no problem. Obviously I was wrong. I did say seemed. What's your point?
  12. This was probably the best outcome for MFC by ND making the call rather than the Club. I wish him all the best. I wonder if this will tame the effigy burning of him on this site.
  13. No problem. Your earlier statement seemed definite on Williams.
  14. Kit, A little history and not revisionist. Up to 2002, I thought Yze was a highly skilled and valuable player. During 2003 one of the posters on this site raised questions about Yze's application and shortcuts. I did not accept them at the time but watched Yze closely after that. Do you know what..that poster was right? Its those very characteristics that now outweigh that diminishing talent pool of Yze's. Yze's form leading up to the 2004 finals was poor. When MFC hit the slump in 2004 after leading the ladder at one point, the hunter became the hunted. MFC lost a number of games and many senior players did not perform. Yze was one of them and he cut corners was unaccountable for his opponents and chased easy statistics. In fact his weeks leading up to the finals that year were ordinary. The 2004 EF between Essendon and Melbourne was despite the result was the most prominent exhibition of unaccountable football by both sides you would see. It was the exact opposite of true September pressure and was exactly the game style that Yze should perform well in. However despite his stats how many of those were contested and how many were effective? In 2005, his form had been extremely inconsistent but then dipped for a prolonged period prior to 2005 finals. Given Neitz was out with injury the "acting" captain's performance as a player and a leader was a leadership vacuum in motion. Its telling that when MFC went into the 2005 finals with an injury ravaged team, the "acting captain" could only make it on the bench and when he came on he was so inconsequential it did not matter. Once again in 2006, his form had been flaky and the goals he got in the elimination final against St Kilda were the easy feeds and receives off other player's hard work. FWIW, the Swans win at the SCG was one of the gutiest team wins I have everseen with the all players put their bodies on the line. Well I thought all. Yze's skills as a once exquisite finisher do not hide his reluctance to do the team things. BTW, Yze is one of a number of senior players currently at this Club that is very good at chasing possession stats without making any impact on the game. Its a contributing fact to the debacle against the Tigers. You need to go behind them on the stat sheet and see how he collects them.
  15. All the more reason for none of the players to speak to the media.
  16. Absolutely right Maurie. He has a choice....He quits now on his own terms or the new coach will grant him his testimonial year at TBO. Kit, I am not sure what your statistics achieve or validate but it certainly isn't your argument. Yze dominates weak oppositions or where the opposition does not match up on him nor play him close. Against pressuring sides like the Swans where he is held accountable or where the game is contested you wont find Yze playing well. He goes missing. For years he has relied on his exquisite talent to shortcut team rules and not fulfilling his turn to put his body on the line on the ground. Since 2003, he has been skiing black runs and his selfish, non team orientated and unaccountable game has been chronic waste of a talent that has been evaporating since that time. AFL is unforgiving and Yze's time is up. Its been one of MFC's clear weaknesses that Yze could have ever been in the leadership group.
  17. Agree Nasher. Especially from a player who has underperformed throughout the year.
  18. Looks reasonable DD. Here is an explanation.... In the early 2000s, it became apparent that a quality team could have an isolated bad season through injury, and finish with five wins, earning a priority pick. This was deemed to be unfair, since the initial reason for the picks was to help consistently poor teams to rebuild. As a consequence, several changes were made to the rules in 2006: 1. The Priority Round was shifted, so that it was held between the First and Second rounds of the draft; this way, an isolated poor season would not be so richly rewarded. 2. Teams would receive a Priority Selection only if they finished the season with fewer than 16.5 premiership points; this way, fewer isolated poor seasons would fall into the priority category. 3. If a team finished with fewer than 16.5 premiership points in two consecutive seasons, then their Priority Selection is taken before the First Round, rather than after it; this way, consistently poor teams are still given the help that they need.
  19. Agree Graz. We need to see what the future gives. The current list of outs are just about finished in AFL terms.
  20. Different game and different situation. I honestly tried to explain back then as others did but you dont want to consider anything but your own limited outlook. Its so repetitous now its gone beyond boring and is not worth another considered response.
  21. Buckley is not playing well at Sandy regardless of his pace. I seriously question Davey's appetite for the contest. Its easy on the fly. Unfortunately football is not always played on the down hill. He has struggled with being closely tagged and even if he went forward the same thing would be happening.
  22. Its not necessarily a decision to play tempo as the slowness of the decison making and then making the move by foot and hand. What seemed like tempo was also a reaction to Richmond flooding back with numbers behind the ball and the inability of MFC players to offer any decent leads up the ground. It was amazing the number of times MFC players with the ball in some space had the look of despair when they looked up and had no options up the ground. Visually it just looked awful.
  23. I think some sort of communication needs to be made respectively. I am against sackings at all points. It does nothing for the CLub but fuel the bloodlust of some bitter supporters. I dont think your last sentence is an issue as this happens all the time.
