  1. The comparison was not valid in the first place. Farmer has burnt his bridges and been instrumental in the downfall of the coach. He is gone. While MFC have been poor this year, how of those players has turned up fat and unfit, a poor attitude and upon not being selected in a side goes out on the booze in breach of team rules and cant be stuffed turning up to a game? He has failed every metric handed to him this year. He is a senior player and has shown complete disregard for the team. He was line ball last year as well. He could have been something special for MFC during his time and gave glimpsed. He has profoundly cheated the players, the supporters and the Club. Cant you see that?
  2. Last time I looked Jeff Farmer was not on the MFC list. I think he is finished anyway. Byron had lost condition by Round 15 last year and was useless in the 2006 finals. Just because alot of players have underperformed this year is no reason to avoid make the hard (in this case easy) decision to dispense with a player who has dramatically failed on every performance and team rule metric.
  3. He aint one of them. I sure he will absolutely fire and play his heart out for a no pay no play contract. He has excelled at $300,000 a year with us this year.
  4. And how much benefit has that been to MFC this year?
  5. Its not much value when you give so much away in pace and you have tendency to be unaccountable. I'd prefer Bell or Frawley.
  6. What would your reaction be if we actually retained him for next year? Disappointment. And a hope that the new coach has got it right. Any form of protest? Would that help or be relevant? Not renew membership? What would that sort of hissyfit achieve? We keep a dud player and the Club is one membership less.
  7. Even if we were having a shot at a premiership his lack of application and performance would condemn him to the scrap heap anyway.
  8. I dont think so Jaded. Bizz would not last a quarter on him. Motlop would cut him to shreds
  9. Sandy have a good crop of VFL registered players but they have been more than ably supplemented by a regular roll call of MFC listed players who are NQR for AFL but perform very well at VFL level. MFC seem rich in that type of player. Ferg, Jamar, Warnock, Bizzell and Miller are some examples. I would expect that many of these players will roll off the MFC list over the next year or two.
  10. Second time...A sense of ground hog day without the expectaton of any upside.
  11. Comments noted Barry. But if Bizzell and Jamar are being played at Sandy to qualify for finals it snuffs out the opportunity for younger players with an AFL future to get a taste of playing in a successful team.
  12. No the Club is not under Cap pressure. Bizz, PJ and CJ are on flat term contracts (A set amount per annum). Contracts designed for low base with incentives will bring you unstuck with the Cap if everyone performs. Players will always seek surety of flat term contracts. That is not correct. Trading is grossly overrated as a process on this site. Very few players are actually traded out of those actually shopped around. Each year very few deals are done. Most deals are for players with ability but questionable attitudes who could possibly add something to a side immediately. Clubs would be backfilling their lists getting underperforming players from a bottom club. Why would any Club give up even a third round pick for flawed players in their mid 20s that cannot sustain a regular game in an underperforming side? You can pick up better for free in the PSD for no cost. We tried to hock Ferg for the past 2 yearscould not get a serious bite for him. Whats changed? If someone offered even a 4th round it would be a steal In the next two years MFC has to offload about 12 players (deadwood) off their list even allowing for Neitz and Yze to retire in 2008. Playing Ferg and co. allows the footy department to make a clear and informed view on just who gets cut now and those possibly in 2008.
  13. I am not worried about now but what our team will evolve to in 12 months time and into 2009 B: Bell, Frawley, Carroll HB:Wheatley ,Rivers, Sylvia C: Johnstone McLean Bartram HF: Bruce, Bate, Pettard F: Davey, Newton, Dunn R: PJ, Green, Jones, I/C: Moloney, Garland, Buckley,???? Hopefuls: Weetra and Hayes Players retiring or finishing their careers by end of season 2008 or start to be fringe : Neitz, Yze, Robbo,Junior, White and others like Ward, Bizzell, Godders, Miller. I would expect to pick up 5 to 6 players in the draft and hoping that the prime target is a line breaking midfielder and possibly another midfielder with good defensive skills. It would be nice to pick up a combative second ruckman. I actually think with Newton, Bate, Frawley, Rivers and McLean that the spine is coming together quite well with a fair bit of promise.
  14. Thats bollocks. The focus is on MFC and its list. Sandy's flag is neither here nor there for MFC.
  15. He was gone before then. When he rolled up fat and flabby to pre season the signs were ominous.
  16. You are right. We should be playing Carroll and PJ in the midfield and on the ball all day. This is all about looking at the list for 2008 IMO the Club will axe two of Ferg, Jamar or Holland at year end. Which two? Performances in the coming weeks will have a say in that. Fine lets drop Brown but I am not sure who your smaller forward is. Ward will definitely be around in 2008. I cant understand the overblown hissyfits about selection from here to year end. This is all about seeing who stays and who goes for 2008.
  17. He's had two chances to recruit him in the past but did not. Hmmm. The only person that could have helped Byron is Byron and he has failed miserably.
  18. But no Fevola who is out with a mystery thigh strain for 2 to 3 weeks. Bet he does not play again with them.
  19. In that year the draft had Luke Ball, Luke Hodge and Chris Judd. Judd has soared, the others have reached significant heights. I would always want to have the right to choose my No 1 pick and not run the risk of having to choose from a pool of potentially lesser players.
  20. Not if the system is changed at the end of the previous season where all teams clearly know the rule changes.
  21. I think it should be the bottom 8 clubs as you could tank into the bottom 4 group. When you are aiming for the top 8., its unrealistic to tank into the bottom 8.
  22. It's still the same problem Jack. Both bottom of the pile sides who if they did not win that game would not win won for the rest of the year. In both situations this year and last there was significant opportunity to tank. I see Fevola is out for 3 weeks with a mysterious thigh strain. Bet he does not play again this year. Do you think the AFL can force him to play? It's a storm in a treacup Jack...relax.
