I wouldn't be sooking too much if they awarded Brisbane a pick.

The AFL have been pretty good to us I would've thought since the dark days of 2011-2013:

    • Instrumental in us getting Peter Jackson
    • Instrumental in us getting Paul Roos
    • Awarded more than fair compensation for losing Sylvia (Vince via pick 25 traded to Adelaide)
    • Awarded more than fair compensation for losing Frawley (Brayshaw via pick 3)

This bothers me, because it's just not true.

Vlad made the call to Peter Jackson. That's it. That's all the "special assisstance" they gave us.

The former Board — our former Board — employed Peter Jackson; not the AFL.

Peter Jackson recruited, and Melbourne Football Club employed, Paul Roos; not the AFL.

Our Free Agency Compensation has been exactly the same as for every other Club that has received it (we got the same Compensation for Frawley as Hawthorn got for Franklin: a 1st round pick).

We were given a small donation and a moderate loan so that we could afford to cover certain non-deferrable costs, such as paying out Neeld. Any other Club in vaguely similar circumstances could reasonably have expected the level of financial relief we received.*

I hate hearing/reading "The AFL bailed out the MFC!". It robs the people who did save our Club of the credit they deserve.

    *    The AFL's Financial Statement for that year indicated that a number of Clubs were given more overall assistance than we were (I can only remember Carlton, because it surprised me).

Jesse has been absent in our two best wins over the last two seasons. No longer an elephant in the room and not sacrilegious to discuss. But the kid has talent. Let's work out what it is that enhances our attack when he is away and incorporate his attributes into that mix.

    What a remarkably sensible comment.

I'm a massive Grimes fan and hope he can get a few more games under his belt before the end of the season - but I reckon his style of play doesn't align with the rest of the team.

If he gets caught in traffic he'll hold onto the ball and lock it in. Every other demon player now tries to move the ball forward - no matter how scrappy.

If the ball comes to him and he's almost out of the scrimmage he tends to then handball back in and often so quickly it's a complete waste of a posession as no opposition players have moved towards him to then create space for the person he handballs back to.

Flat out can't kick to a team mates advantage - which is a particular concern when he's often kicking to a contest:

He's often kicking to a contest because once he gets a mark he doesn't move the ball on quickly.

Love his effort and would love for him to be part of the team going forward but until he can get a bit more urgent and forget the teachings of previous coaches I'm not sure he stays in the best 22.

this reminds me of the old "No offense... But" line.

"I'm a massive Grimes fan"... but.

He played well, leave him alone.

Have I missed something or has he only played three games (two in heavy rain) since coming back from being out for two years? I sometimes think posters on here enjoy seeing our players fail.

    sometimes?

lol. I would love to see your Ignore list.

  5. The other side of the equation is the MRP.

While we may love to see one of these cheats get straight-armed*, the guy who does it will probably get 4 weeks.

Players are all-but-helpless against this tactic. Mathieson was effectively untacklable today: he had 8 contested possessions and 6 of them were free kicks.

    *  anyone remember vandenBerg vs Pendlebury? that was fun :)!

  6. I got up at 5am to catch the train down. I was really keen to see this game.

But then i made the mistake of checking the seating. I am so very angry that we are forced to play at this airless soulless stadium, and now to find out that a premium Melbourne membership gets me a seat in the bleachers! (I smoke, so first-in arrangements rule me last).

Who sits on Level 2? Really!? Why are there no L2 seats reserved for us?

Sorry OP, I just can't handle 8 hours of travel to sit in the effin bleachers nursing my pointless membership card knowing that I've been screwged by the AFL once again.

This is not a home game. I am going back to bed.

    edit: very upset by this.

He also averages our 5th highest champion data "points per minute" behind only Viney, Gawn, Vince and Tyson.

I'm looking forward to him being able to run out more than 65% game time.

Is that the same Champion Data that said all our players are sub-par?

The stat you've picked out is warped by his high ratio of mid-minutes combined with his clearance strength.

Behind Viney and Tyson I presume?

It's a safe presumption. And since most peeps are suggesting we drop a forward in either Frost or Brayshaw to make way for him, one of these three will have to play forward.

Amazed no one is recommending Kennedy for the chop. He has been ordinary for a few weeks now. Would have to come close.

I wouldn't say "ordinary"... maybe "least best" :P. I thought he was good against Collingwood, and worked hard against Richmond; but we know that someone has to make way for Petracca, and Kennedy has the double disadvantage of being a like-for-like swap and having been a bit ordinary in his last game.

edit: he worked his way into my favourite list in his first 4 games, so it would definately be harsh to leave him out.

Left him out as I think he's more of a specialist small forward than in the half forward mix. But yeah, throw him in, adds even more to point that we need defenders more than forwards at this stage.

And Hunt is much better suited to a wing.

Half-back-ball-user has become the most important position in the game. We should be stoked to have one.

  10. Terrrible delivery and our forwards were being scragged and blocked all game.

Pedo did alright but mostly when on-ball.

Neither Watts nor Hogan had a hope today. The umpiring is killing this game for me.

  11. Please remember that every team which played on the 'G in round 1 last year ran out of legs in round 2. Every one of them. They stopped like they were shot at half time, because they were.

This is an important game for both clubs. I doubt there will be much in it.

We have added pace this year.

    Selection will be critical.

Gods i hope it isn't wet.

    Lets win :)
