Celebrating Milestones - Rugby League are!

Featured Replies

To rub salt into MFC supporters wounds regarding the lack of any major trumpeting of our 150th year so far, channel 9 this morning has been hightlighting the major event of Rugby League reaching 100 year anniversary this year! Included a big advert bringing back to life a lot of legends of that game! No doubt will get up front attendion from 9 all season.

It would appear the MFC's focus will be limited to being able to celebrate the actual milestone being the anniversary of the actual date of the 150th. It will be great that this will at least be a Home game for MFC and played at the G! However a "minor" secondary event will be starting immediately after the game - Opening ceremony of Bejing Olympics so regardless of how well and what MFC does on the day will get bumped from lead of sports news on the day.

For any conspiracy theorists, perhaps worth looking for signs whether AFL has kidnapped the 150th as its own celebrations as well as the Tigers 100th anniversary. (MFC not in position to resist!! $$$) Bit like celebrating the Millenium a year early! I reckon the 150th anniversary of the AFL should be from the date the VFL or its predecessort started as a competition would be the appropriate date. From marketing perspective would mean Melb and Geelong 150th in 2008 whicall clubs could support and then another 150th for the competition.:huh:
