My NQR Team

With all the discussions on our best team going on at the moment. I have taken a walk down memory lane and compiled a team that may not be the best, but have me either laugh, cry, pull my hair out or just plain annoyed me. So hear it is.

BACKS

A.Goodwin: Should be in jail, absolute phsyco!

A.Nicholson: Not your stereotype AFL footballer.

D.Seouw: Who could forget his last game. Got about 20 weeks suspension I think. Or should have.

HALF BACKS

P.Payne: Completely unco.

J.Rugolo: Brother Frank was Didak-like. Joe wasn't.

B.Grgic. : His name still gives me heartburn.

CENTRES

P.Tossol: Just because of his name.

A.Battiston: 'Batto'! Everyone loved 'Batto'.

P.Hopgood: Probably another 'Batto'.

HALF FORWARDS

S.Eishold: Still have nightmares about that kick at goal in the 87 prelim.

D.Cordner: PSMDSL. Promised So Much Delivered So Little.

B.Stynes: David Schwartz once described him as the worst footballer he has ever seen. Hard to disagree.

FORWARDS

L.Parish: Great player for us,but looked like he just got out of Pentridge.

M.Jackson: Enough said.

P.Bryce: Put the 'P' in pathetic. Inspired recruiting.

RUCKS

S.O'Dwyer: Talk about white line fever. Loved it when he blued with Simon Madden all day at Windy Hill.

J.Hilton: Was famous long before Paris.

T.Fidge: Belted Peter Daicos so hard at Waverly one day , when Daicos came to, his mullet was cool any more.

INTERCHANGE

S.Zantuck: Had some balls to tell Barrassi to 'F**k off during a game.

L.Ottens: Was supposed to be better than his brother. More inspired recruiting.

S.Spencer/S.Clark: Tampons! One week in. Three weeks out. Got two more from Windy Hill, so we didn't learn our lesson, did we?

J.Fidge: Freak of a player, but talk about a loose cannon.

I hope everyone who remembers has a good laugh, I know I did. These are players who have played for MFC since I have barracked for the mighty Dees, and is probably why we haven't enjoyed the ultimate success in September.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
