Petitioning Flashcab Australia

Pay the Court Ordered Debt of $7125.56 to Quadriplegic man with wife and two young children.

Flashcab Australia retrofitted our car to make it wheelchair accessible after I became a quadriplegic – but their shoddy work meant it rusted to bits in under four and a half years, and they've left us $7,125.56 out of pocket since then by refusing to pay the court ordered debt to my family.

I became a C4/C5 Quadriplegic in 2001 after a rugby league accident. I've tried hard to rebuild my life since then; I got married, had two beautiful daughters and regained employment. After selling our first home, moving in with my mother-in-law, we got a car retrofitted for my disability so we had some sense of independence still. Then it rusted out, becoming unusable in under four and a half years and left us stranded.

We were forced to extend our mortgage to cover the cost of repair because Flashcab refused to repair their faulty modifications. Now even after QCAT court ordered them to repay us, they're refusing to take responsibility and pay us.

This is a company that's taking advantage of people with disabilities – doing shoddy work and walking away from their responsibilities. They continue to show a blatant disregard to a former customer of their business which shows how genuine they really are.

After being in a bus accident and being re-injured, I live in constant pain and haven’t been able to return to work. All through this time I've had to battle Flash Cab just to pay our family what they're owed.

What's shocking to me – is that the Queensland Government still contracts to Flash Cab Australia through the Vehicle Options Subsidy Scheme (VOSS), paying them thousands of taxpayers’ dollars per retrofit despite their shoddy work and unfair treatment.

I call on the QLD Disability Minister the honourable Tracy Davis MP to deregister FLASHCAB AUSTRALIA from the Vehicle Options Subsidy Scheme until FLASHCAB AUSTRALIA honours the court order.

As for a lot of people, seven thousand dollars is a lot of money to us, and we just find it so unfair that after all these years we're still out of pocket. I am asking you to sign and share this petition to as many people as you can to make the public aware of what Flashcab Australia’s owner's John and Helen Cooper are capable of doing to their past and future customers.

I will not stop this petition until Flashcab Australia pays the court ordered sum owing to us – this is about basic decency and fairness now. Please help.
