SOME observers have declared the AFL innocent of any "complicity" in Melbourne or anyone else allegedly tanking games for draft advantages. Well, nobody was accusing them of entering into some bizarre clandestine conspiracy with any club regarding tanking. The real question - which some of the pundits appear to be dodging like a circus acrobat - is that, when a donkey runs off the road, upends a fruit stand, and ploughs through the market causing property damage, personal injury and plenty of comedy for untouched onlookers, do you blame the donkey? Or do you blame the geezer sitting on top of him who was dangling a plump, appealing carrot in front of the donkey throughout the entire escapade?
