Like everyone else on this site, I am gutted this am.

Even at quarter time when we trailed by 14 I thought Melbourne had been the better side in general play. It was only a little more polish and luck in front of goal that edged the Flogs to the front (and a disallowed goal of Greeny's).

We were the better side for the most part - stuck to a game plan that did not seem suited to the conditions and made it work with run and commitment. And yes we were done over by some key umpiring decisions - even their choice of shirt colour! with Bart's last quarter handpass.

But looking to the future, how much brighter is ours! Welcome Danny Hughes. I have not been hanging out to see him. Only his name name rang a bell somehow. But this bloke looks the goods. Strong mark and kick - at least in the warm up and once he had settled - pity about his first quarter miss but we'll forgive first game nerves. He is another promising young one to add to Scully, Trengove etc.

Our FD will make sure they learn from this and we will overtake the Flogs real soon. Win next week and we're 4-4. I'd have taken that at the start of the year - and we can add another great kid. And who expected McKenzie to be as good as he is?

Be happy Dees.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
