Liability on injury treatment

Does the club cover itself or can it be held liable for injury treatment? What I mean is if a player is injured and the club recommends a certain type of surgery to get the player back quicker than the normal but it doesn't work is the club liable or would come down to the doctors/due diligence/waivers? Any thoughts?

I'd imagien that they would take the advice of a medical expert onboard when making these decisions, then present the advice to the player for their consideration

What's your point? Where are you going with this?

No where we have to worry about. It came because a Carlton supporter I know was thinking out loud about this in relation to Fisher and the LARS surgery. I thought it was an interesting question so I thought I'd ask around.

If the club employs doctors, they're required to have professional indemnity insurance, so if a club's doctors act negligently to one of our players, then they can be sued, as can the club, but the insurance will cover the doctor and the club would have insurance for business risks also.

I'd be interested to know whether the club insures players wages against injury risks though.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
