Grimes gets the nod finally

That is spooky.

Given we took White from Freo I dont think we would have taken Ottens.

And it's fair to say that over the journey, White was much better than Ottens.

His last couple of years were average, but he was one talented footballer and gave us a lot over the years. So from that point of view, we didn't miss out on anything.

TJ was universally regarded as pick 1 in his draft year, and on skills alone, you can understand why. If you take his skills and transfer them to someone who applies themselves, you've got yourself a top 5 pick even in 2009.

There is nothing sadder in football than wasted talent, and guys like TJ make me admire guys like Junior, Miller and Bartram even more, because they get as much out of themselves as someone who is three times more talented than they are.

To think that Junior, who was pick 51 in the 1996 Rookie Draft :o has won more B&F's and has as many AA's next to his name as a number one pick, is just amazing.

I dont think so. Its line ball at best. White had good seasons in 2000,2002 and 2004 but by the end of 2005, White was finished as a No 1 ruckman at a time when he should have been hitting his prime. His 2007 and 2008 were terrible.

Ottens came off a slow start and suffered a debilitating back injury early which stuffed him for a number of years. But since then and since his marvellous trade to Geelong by Wallet he has blossomed and has been No 1 ruckman in a top side. He should still be playing for a few more years whe White dropped off the perch yesrs before.

The issue is that if we had White, then Ottens would not have got a good look in in the ruck and would have been superfluous. In hs early days, White could ruck solo for 4 quarters.

You cant go past Cameron Bruce as pick 64 in the 1999 draft and last years B&F winner. Can you?

TJ was recruited as No 1 pick in the days when character, attitude and personality were not really considered. He was considered a talented but very simple individual who was never push in the junior competitions.

Does anyone else think Grimes looks like the terminator when he runs and kicks the ball?

Edit: I was bored

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
