Astounded to catch the end of Patrick Smith's daily diatribe of SEN this morning with Kevin Bartlett..The AFL are committing $200 MILLION to estabilshing the new franchises in West Sydney (spare me !!) and the Gold Coast.

Surely if there is enough $$$ in the collective kitty, then NO club should find itself under financial threat assuming any reasonable degree of financial prudence.

Favourable draws and TV exposure in key timeslots become a self-fulfilling prophecy for the Collingwoods and Essendons of the competition ( I for one am heartily sick of seeing them on TV) - it's simply easier for them to draw sponsors and supporters with this leg-up year after year.

That said, there must surely be enough $ to also manage equalisation funding for the "smaller" clubs as well..they are after all part of the competition ! Indeed we started it !

how too can Sydney have less members, low crowds, salary cap concessions (ie they spend more) yet are never in the red..can somebody please explain ???

This is the level playing field that all segments of the corporate world operate under. It sucks but it's the reality of the modern world. Suck blood from the poor and give it to the rich. It's always been this way. It's the unfortunate result of greed. That's why we have to be extra smart and one day stand on our own 2 feet

Yet they try and argue that a Tasmanian team would not be financially viable or sustainable.

Very high risk IMO

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
