Selling home games to Canberra in 09?

One aspect that I haven't noticed being debated is this.......the trend toward inner city living.

How many people are moving to the Docklands precinct, and the inner Melbourne luxury high-rise appartments.

These people have money. These people live within walking distance of the MCG.

These people live in "Melbourne".

Perhaps the local zone that Essendon, Richmond and Hawthorn have had for years, is developing in inner Melbourne!

Is it possible that a more logical step than going to Gippsland would be to concentrate on inner Melbourne, where no-one USED to live, but now do, in ever increasing numbers?

I hope our planners haven't overlooked this consideration.

Good point but I think you'll find that the residents of Docklands are a mix of young professionals and retirees. The great thing about Casey is the kids. It's a family area with schools and sports days etc. It's here we can potentially tap into a new market. Get 'em while there young!

Yes, but perhaps wealthy yuppies might be a better financial prospect than the offspring of dysfunctional, and possibly itinerant, families.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
