  1. Before he went to the Weagles he played most of his footy as a mf or hbf. He also believes he is a far better defensive player than offensive. He also says that he's 4kg heavier than 2004, not AFL fit, but happier than he's been in 2 years and raring to go. I have no doubt he'll train his arse off - literally. As well as his gut.
  2. Forget Rance - he's Murray's son and will most likely a father/son selection to WCE.
  3. Actually Peter (who I will admit up front, is a friend) is a deep thinker, and a kind, generous, and gentle man who helps a lot a ex-footballers when they fall on hard times. You'd be surprised at the amount of people who give him 'inside' information - particularly if they want it leaked. He was also a good servant of this club. Don't let his personna fool you.
  4. Inside Football reported that Mark Williams believes that Summers should be rookied next year. Did not mention Valenti.
  5. It would be good to see Buckley in again. Robbo should be given the rest of the season off.
  6. Sheeds, who I hope and pray will coach us next year, is not a teetotaller. He loves wine - Hird has oft complained that Sheeds has denuded his cellar of its best vintages. Telling him he wasn't good enough was but one of the many blunders the MFC has committed in the last 43 years. I strongly feel that he is the man to break the NS curse.
  7. FYI rookies can be elevated up to and including round 18.
  8. When we play so called good sides, the so called coach seems to have some semblance of a game plan ( as poor as it usually is, it does bear some resemblance to a plan). When we play sides that are so called 'easybeats', no homework ever seems to have been done. Invariably, team selection is poor, appropriate match ups ignored, and attitude sucks. Blind Freddy saw that Deledio was taken off so that he could avoid Godfrey's tagging. Why wasn't he put on him again as soon as he returned to the field? Why were 2 loose tiges allowed to roam our forward line? Why was manning up ignored? etc, etc. Our pathetic excuse for a coach said he was "frustrated and angry" after the game. He said earlier in the year that if he felt the players weren't responding to him he'd walk. Well WALK.
  9. ND said in the interview after the game that he would be back under consideration for the tigers game.
  10. Can you imagine what Sheeds would do with our list and something to prove? And he would not tolerate ANY kind of softness - mental or physical. Thomas, German or Ratten would be ok. Essendon are having a long hard look at Pagan. (From a c'tee member).
  11. I thought it was Ward. Will watch replay to be sure.
  12. I agree. And the same for Newton. Daniher is a never was and the quicker he goes the more we'll see what this team is capable of. What pace we're going to see with Holland and the Bizz streaming down the ground.
  13. For the 1st time in its history, Inside Football - which rates every player every game- gave a player zero. That player was Miller against WCE. It's what he was worth. Still he gets picked, and Newton doesn't play anywhere. This club deserves its position on the ladder.
  14. Actually, when Joe left we had plenty in the bank. It was after Szondy was pres thast we had a 5 million debt. Just check the annual reports from those years.
  15. At least when I was 17 I attended my 5th GF and watched the then mighty demons win another flag (their 4th of the 5 - damn 1958!). I've put up with a lot of misery since. Few losses were more insipid than today's. I've seen far bigger losses, but with far more effort. Today was unforgivable.
  16. This comes from a former Lions Board member - Lethal told the board that in his opinion Gary, whilst being a great assistant and a having a very good football brain, would never make it as a senior coach. He said that Gary was not good at making the "hard" decisions, and did not deliver 'bad news' to players at all well. He felt that he was too 'sentimental' to make hard headed decisions.
  17. I don't know if these will count but I felt that I want to. 6. Jones 5. Bate 4. White 3. Bell 2. Godfrey 1. Petterd I agree that Godfrey has been really good the past 2 weeks. He hasn't had too many posessions (which means less chance to stuff up) and he has stopped class opponents (albeit one of them being injured for much of the game). It's interesting to note that in Godders' best season in the club's B&F (5th?) we finished 15th. Odd that.
  18. There's a kid called Simon Keenan, who's around 15 now. His brother Sam didn't want to play AFL - "I want to do what I want and eat what I want when I want without public scrutiny 24/7", but he might. He'll end up bigger than Crackers.
  19. What has really upset me is ND's admission that Whelan and Wheatley went into the game with injuries. Now wheels is out for 3, and who knows with Wheats. This was preferable to playing kids? Another nail in the reverend of the church of mediocrity's coffin.
  20. He keeps at it, and doesn't turn it up. Where are the senior players who should be showing him how it's done? Either injured or stuffing it up themselves. Give him time and he will come good - especially when he's got good leaders around him. Unfortunately, there are far too few of them - even with a full list available. And a mediocre, unidimensional coach in charge.
  21. Funnily enough, Jack, this is my 50th year of either playing or watching footy - and I totally agree with you. Injuries aside, coaching decided the extent of the loss. I don't know whether we could have have won it with different coaching, but we sure as hell would have finished a lot, lot closer.
  22. I've been a member since 1957 and I couldn't agree more. The mental fragility that is shown by our players is either a reflection of the coach, or our recruiters look for softies. I've had a few chats with Rob Hyde (former coach of the Calder Cannons) and he reckons we haven't recruited softies. So that leaves ND as the man who holds the buck.
  23. Injuries are a reality of football. Each year the Football Gods smile on some and rain on others. It's the effort the 22 players put in during the game, and the plan that the coach works out that count. In our case, very few players do gutbusting running, play never give up football, put in 2nd & 3rd efforts, etc. As for The Reverend of the Church of Mediocrity - PLAN is just another of those terrible four letter words.
  24. Exactly. It was the last alleged statement Selwood made that, if true, damns him.
