Congratulations, Western Sydney Wanderers!
Straight Sets Simon replied to bush demon's topic in Melbourne Demons
Putting a soccer team in Western Sydney was always an obvious move and one which was overdue due the popularity of the sport in the area. However, for me the real success has been the overall branding of the club. It's name, logo and colours are all very classy and traditional, not some cartoon gimmick "that kids will like". They look like they have been around for decades and should the the benchmark for all sporting codes who introduce new teams.- 47 replies

He was always arrogant.

If he's so good, why not use picks 2 or 3 on him?

AFL National Draft 2014 Picks 2 & 3

I had no idea you felt that way about Toumpas. -
As with Jetta, would happily see him get a chance as a rookie.

This is another reason why the draft age should be increased so that these players can spend time in state leagues where there is more defensive pressure required.

The 2015 fixture thread
Straight Sets Simon replied to Bring-Back-Powell's topic in Melbourne Demons
I don't get it, people complain about playing at Etihad (where our record is poor) yet they also complain when we play teams who normally play home games at Etihad at the MCG. -
The 2015 fixture thread
Straight Sets Simon replied to Bring-Back-Powell's topic in Melbourne Demons
That's probably a good thing, assuming that we still have the correct number of "home" games. Imagine if Port got to play lots of "away" games at Adelaide Oval. -
I'm backing Jack.

He looked really good early on but just seemed to disappear off the face of the planet. Melbourne haven't had much luck recruiting big men from Adelaide in recent years it must be said.

I really like the look of him, especially those bursts of speed where he attacks the ball. This goes well with his smooth movement and balance.

Raising The Minimum Draft Age
Straight Sets Simon replied to Vanilla Gorilla's topic in Melbourne Demons
There is more chance of making money playing in the AFL than other sports in Australia and there is still a lot of love for the sport. I wouldn't think that losing players to other sports is a reason not to increase the draft age. If anything, it filters out those who may have the talent but not the full desire to succeed in the AFL. -

January training locations

This is the benefit of having two first-class training facilities at your disposal. -
There was mention in an article that he was working on this area of his game so that could be the reason.

Hugh Goddard's highlights look impressive. Courageous in the air, is a decent size and uses the ball well.

Fair to say I was probably wrong about Brayshaw's kicking, still not great but not nearly as bad as the other video made out to be.

As a general rule, does anyone else get concerned when only a handful of players are being talked about? My point is, there seems to be such groupthink amongst supporters and clubs alike about who the top prospects are (usually based on U18 form), however over the past five years there have been very few stars to emerge from the pointy end of the draft.

Those "highlight" packages are more just any time a player is involved in the game, good or bad.
