This thread is hilarious - he’s going , he’s gone, Grundy in , Grundy out , Freo hot , Freo cold

And all the time still not a single word from the man himself - he’d be rolling around in stitches reading this

    He's not reading it

I said nothing about courageous changes this week pal. That ship has sailed and won't be back on port until next season when apparently we a looking at getting an aging injury prone ruckman who,as good as he may be ,isn't good enough for a hot young team without a first choice ruckman to want to keep.

Perhaps that's your view of courageous?

We need another powerful running mid

We  really need some one with the potential to recharge our " bottom six" because apparently there isn't anyone waiting in the wings  or surely when we had the the chance at 10 zip we would have trialed them ( sort of like the freedom of Geelongs ground).

This week I accept they may just shuffle the deck chairs  and it may be enough for a 50/50 game given that we last year we were the best team going around.

Bowey in sounds like a possibility

Next year is time for a new attitude.

Has the FD got that ability? We have most of the attributes in place if they have the courage.

I dont think you can point to one game where Goodwn has made wholesale changes such as those you are suggesting. Its not his DNA.

And he certainly won't do it in an elimination final.

He will back in his players to improve. Thats just how he is.

It might be just enough to convince Harmes to look for a trade if he does.

    Just sayin

I made no such suggestion....we are the reigning premiers. We came 2nd. Lost a QF to a red hot young team who are clicking at the right time and kicked opportunistic goals, aided by 50m penalties. It's hardly the time to throw everything out and make 'courageous change'.

If in 3 years we are still kicking to the pocket then sure - make courageous change then.

I'm not sure why you're simultaneously lauding Geelong's change whilst in the next sentence deriding that it took them 5-10 years to make it.

As for the G once being exclusively ours - completely irrelevant to the here and now. It's well known that Geelong's home ground provides them an advantage over visiting teams. It stands to reason, then, they are better placed to make 'significant change' at home with the knowledge they carry a headstart into every game.

What an odd exaggerated response you've come up with!

Its taken a long time for the penny to drop at Geelong & make real change, despite their significant advantages affording them plenty of time & easy home games with which to experiment. Hardly courageous.

Our PF mauling did that to them.

Demons complaint about Geelongs home ground advantage are clearly not grown up enough to remember when the MCG was Melbourne's home ground.

It wasn't until Richmond stormed the castle we lost that home ground advantage about 57 years ago.

A radical change in structure and style is courageous whenever it happens ...but are you suggesting we should wait about 5 or so years  (try 10) as failed contenders before tweaking the approach ?

    Wow just wow!

You don't think winning the ultimate after a 57 year drought has some genuis to it IRW?

There's always room for improvement but he's also done a stirling job in following up with a 2nd spot and the double chance this season IMV.  Albeit we would really need to make a Prelim for that to mean anything.

Having said that i would like to have seen a bit more 'daring' in terms of tweaking the game style away from the usual, managing some of the older and/or banged up fellas during and around the Norf match and, lastly, giving a few more chances to those who appeared to be likely types (and have earned a stint) at Casey.

Well you may have misunderstood me because you more less said what I and many others gave been saying here and elsewhere for weeks/ months now.

A great coach would'nt let a side at 10 zip but not "flying" ,just carry on as if it was all a plan ...8 weeks of " loading" Lol..may have been people on here but not finding a way to blood more depth while  persevering with out of form category 2 players just  isn't great coaching .

I havnt said he is no good..57 years since I last witnessed a flag tells me he got something right .

Like many I will consider a Prelim a good pass mark.

Getting to the G/F will surprise me  and surely we'll  expect some substantial changes next season;not just adjusting to no Jackson.

Take a look at a courageous Geelong FD crashing through a habitual game plan and team structure and giving themselves yet another chance

He's the coach, let's see his moves

Agree, Ginnivan excepted. Last game, the little twerp’s stats were (roughly speaking)
1 star jump (when someone touched his back)
    3 kicks
    1 tackle
    1 - 50 metre penalty
My Collingwood mate reckons I have obsessive hatred fixation - really not sure what he is on about

I had to remind myself he was playing ( a little like Jackson actually ) because there was a swarm of magpies all over the ground and he was pretty irrelevant to proceedings

Think most of Victoria will be barracking for freo apart from the ferals.

I think the Pies are are a very attractive and exciting team.

    Not their supporters though.

I would only support Doggas team to keep Collingwood out of the G/F

On paper you would think both home teams win but take nothing for granted in season 2022. Another thing I hope that disappears with Gill is 7.50 start times, there just horrible.

Of all the disasters that have befallen our suburban footy competition Gil is the worst.

Has he done anything at all of value ?

So we just beat a crook cats and beating the doggies was lucky. we pulverised both of those teams you numpty

That was thev " at our mythical best you all go on about" .

I didn't say we weren't contenders now or even that we wernt very good last finals.I did say beating Footscray was nothing to boast about because they arnt that good.

Bang Bang Bang was very very good.

You can't even see that we are off the pace and we cracked under pressure on Friday ?

Running old memes isn't analysis  it's what commentators say because they have run out of ideas ,you numpty

You could almost call it a Blessing In Deesguise

Geelong couldn't play any worse but got it done??

    Seriously?

If this weekend is your marker then we should be worried about the Lions.

The Pies would have run all over us on this week's showing.

Even May and Petty wouldn't hold them up.

At least Geelong didnt ship their daks and crumble onder the pressure like the Dees

This almost mythical "we're the best when we are at our best " is becoming a hilarious fantasy meme.

    It's never happened.

Last year we only  beat a crook Cats team and no one should consider beating Footscrsy a triumph .

    That's not loyalty  it's delusional

Just watched a young key position player in Jye Amiss who in his 2nd game of AFL footy just take control of doggies defenders and made a solid contribution.

The mind boggles that to this day JVR hasn't really come close to a debut. Time for ego to put his stubbornness aside and just play the kid next week.

    No chance

A young wet Amos kicking goals in a final in his second game.

A super wet Darcy has kicked a goal for the Dogs in a final.

No reason why we can't play JVR this week for Melk.  Roll the die Goody!

I bet he won't and will probably play Trac and Spargo and anyone else who can walk unaided.

Which is why JVR and every other possible change hasnt had a run in the team to date.

This bloke isn't a coaching genius despite last years success.

    Not by a long shot

That's a good idea. Bomb it high to the pocket to 5 smalls and Fritta.

A bit less bombing it high to pockets and more Fitta to space with TMac and  Max going to the hot spots might help.

Silly I know and its probably too late to change ,but it would give Kossi his chance to take that mark of the year he's inclined to attempt

if you are going to say we lost last night because we're badly coach then you can go too. Sydney's pressure was amazing and forced us into errors. That is what pressure and finals do to you. They sustained their pressure for longer than we did.

Also really not sure how me swapping Melksham for McDonald can be viewed as me "blaming Melksham". 🤷‍♂️

The coaching failures over time  come to fruition when there are no  previous alternatives from Casey trialed from when we were 10 zip but patchy...and show up when the players are interviewed and say " we have that ferocious edge going" and the like .

Shut that presumptuous  crepe down until the game is over  is the job of someone on  the coaching staff

I understood you were on the blame Melksham for anything band wagon that runs around here.

    My mistake apparently

I can't see TMac being ready given his slow build to form in the past.

Obviously he's an option...but I'd get rid of BBB myself and trust the forward line smalls to work harder

But yes overall they cracked under pressure all around the ground, there's only so many times May and Petty can stop it without mistakes creeping in.

So Longmire prepared his team better than Goodwin?

I was there mate. We need that extra tall up forward. Who else you taking out for McDonald? Melksham missed two crucial ones anyway.

    Jog on

Yeah two crucial misses and half the team fell over or handpassed to Sydney all night.

He was pressure  and as much as they need extra big  tall strong I'd almost play TMac for rag doll Brown and hope Fritta and Gawn can catch it.

Max doesn't tap to our players anyway .

Problem with TMac is I don't think he comes back from foot injuries with any sort of form to speak of.

That's me jogging past you while you blame Melksham for bad coaching an game wide lousy decisions from the  Captain down

I think RPFC summed it up in his post earlier in this thread, albeit about ANB not BBB. A replacement for BBB would need to wait till summer. You can't replace him in an elimination final.

Yeah post game frustration on my part

200cm 100 kg and competes like a rag doll ,albeit one who can kick straight. But the only alternative if TMac isn't ready is Weideman and that's just crazy

My prediction is that they roll the dice with McDonald

    in: McDonald

    out: Melksham

would love to get Bowey in but won't happen

    Harmes won't get rubbed out

Melk out..? Maybe but were you actually  there or watching on TV...two different performances

  19. 1 hour ago, Tracca said:

??? Based on his presser hes playing next week, he literally said he got a kick to the calf and was pretty sore, but a good rest off the legs and recovery he will play......

The reason we have no one coming through to cover for injuries and poor form is that the Coach  regularly says he will be " ok " or flatly refuses to change a problematic line up..experiment even ,when an opportunity arises.

Mind you  we'd want Trac if he was 95% good to go

    names are just names

it’s our style that was lacking and Longmire simply outsmarted us and his players “owned us” again

In - composure; someone who can kick the footy to find a target inside 50; a heartbeat for some players, ; winning clearances
    out. - reckless ill disciplined footy; risky kicks in back 50 ( Gawn 🤮🤮🤮) ; fumbles fumbles fumbles ; kicking to the pockets;

Yeah, but they can't drop the Captain .

    He was shocking all night

I really don't know if I would make any changes.

If we had to play Sydney again next week I would back the same boys in to just play better. A number of players not playing well today and that's taking into account how excellent Sydney's pressure was.

Based on tonights result I would think we would lose again, but I can't see anyone in the twos who would have made a big difference.

I really want to hate on Melksham but my head tells me that he likely did a lot more work than his stats would suggest.

Who would come in though? Bowey and Tmac the only real options?

Who has to come in to get rid of BBB?

    TMac or Van Rooyen?

    Harmes will be suspended
