    6 - Goat all day.

5 - Grundy. All day effort, loved the handball receives and around the ground run from a ruckman. This might yet be the blessing in disguise because now the thought of he and Gawn back together in a month is loaded with antici.... pation.

4 - Langdon. Again, all day effort. A superb winger's game.

3 - Hunter. We won this game with our overall movement. Many contributed but some have to be identified as best.

2 - Petracca. Things often went wrong for him but he kept on being the heavy impact body all day and the unglamorous effort deserves reward.

1 - J V Rooooooyen. That's a handy debut that did all the things expected.

Too kind to Trac imo but you did make a case.

    Spot on re Grundy.

He moves like Cathy Freeman( I saw her running at Fawkner Park once...smooth)

Is this really what you think? That Petracca is slow and Clarry can’t hit a target by hand? No idea how we won a premiership with such a slow unskillful group.

    Yeah unfair on Oliver.

Kossie is quick and I didn't say Trac was slow.

Hitting a target by hand means they don't pick it up off their ankles

Goody needs to get the boys fired up. we need intensity and focus for 4 quarters

Yze needs to earn his money too and sort out the midfield. 60 clearances to 32 was pathetic last week

    Fire up boys!

    Maybe let Choco coach

I agree, our fumbling, especially out of the centre, is a concern and a block to our gameplan.

As you have also mentioned our kicking to target players last week was atrocious.

    " last week"?

    When hasn't it been ?

The best list in the league a generational midfield and not one of them is quick or can hit a target by hand or foot on any regular basis!

Where was Yze's  response when we were getting belted in the centre last night coaches these days just seem to wait till a break comes, if Harmes gets a game next week it is laughable, bring in Schache for Tmac, JVR for Melk. but we will stick with the same.

I dont think much happens without Goodwins approval and he's the Maggie Thatcher of the AFL( an autocrat who's " not for changing")

Unless you're Max on the boundary in W.A. of course.

Where has Choco gone anyway..too much input for someone's liking ?

Skills.  Still our greatest weakness and always will be with this group, particularly under pressure.

How do we have so many poor field (and goal) kickers in one midfield, it's diabolical and hurts us every week.

    Yuck.

    Yeah it beggars belief

At least there will be Kossie for the rest of the season

That's the most flattering scoreline I've ever seen.  Easily.

Some supporters love making excuses, but let's deal with reality.  They were a 10 goal better team.

Oliver, Petracca and particularly Viney were pathetic.  Harmes was worse than Viney.  Barely possible.

Brayshaw plays like he's wearing concrete boots.

Ashcroft made our two ''generational'' mids look like they lacked class.

Grundy is one of the smallest talls I've seen.

Tom McDonald needs to rediscover form at the lower level.

I particularly enjoyed the dropped marks and constant fumbling.

    A grim reality check.

Tom being "structurally important" only works as an excuse for just so long.

    Hes's cooked.

I am / was a fan but was it 2019 that  he kicked 50 goals zip, clunking marks in the middle of packs and fan defenders up and down the ground?

    Briefly in the leadership group

It's a long time between drinks and I reckon the well is dry.

    Bummer

    Such a BS statement

Pretty sure they cost us the game in Adelaide a couple of years ago

A mistake can have a consequence but to say endlessly that MFC is being disadvantaged suggests that the other teams are being favoured.

    It's childish

A big part of it is the game plan still too slow with ball movement.

No one seemed to notice last week that either Collingeood or Geelong would likely have overwhelmed MFC even with May down back.

The tidal wave attack game was likely specifically  designed to crack Melbourne's 2021 Premiership defensive structure .

Goodwin shows no sign of understanding that....occasionally kick it out to the other side..!!! Geez kill me now so I don't have to listen to his pressers

    Rethinking in slow motion

Yeah, our deficiencies are we don’t look great without two all Australians and a future all Australian, struggle in humidity, players coming back in under done don’t make up for having other players out and we find it hard to arrest momentum when we have a bad 8 minute patch where the best player in the league is taken out of the game and the umpires are throwing a bone one way all night.

Is it in any way possible for observations or opinions not to include some ridiculous statement about umpiring ?

They have never made a difference....ever.

Some umpiring is better some is worse...some is awful...in the same game...relative to both teams

    GTFU!!

Grundy is not Gawn. Nobody is. Collingwood also has a plethora of very good contested marking players.  We don’t.

Can we win a flag without him? Yes
Can we stop comparing him to random players who’ve done a season ending injury that had no impact on their team’s performance? Also yes

Gawn is such a special player. 6 times AA, and our captain. He isn’t just another player, just like he isn’t the only player that can win us a flag.

I think the real worry is that he’s 31 and has two recos already under his belt. He’s not 20 with a whole career ahead of him and he’s a key part of our premiership window that we waited 57 years to reopen.

    That last paragraph...( sigh)

There was this guy on a million bucks who went down last year for Collingwood and they then went on to be one kick from a grand final I believe.

But hey, he was a big part of their gameplan and they probably planned all summer with him in it so screw that. Looking forward to all the contrary comments about not being as good of a leader as Max or not being able to mark etc

The real question imo is can the coach rejig the game plan because he couldn't adjust the forward line last season ;he's ordinary ( at best) as a game day coach   and doesnt have enough IQ from his players for them to step up as individuals.

It's going to be a long year

But they still have an AA ruckman and a pretty good midfield.

Need a good final gasp from Pig and TMac I reckon

    I presume that's a presumption?

If it wasn't fair under the circumstances they would surely contest it

Kossie was fortunate to get two.

Airborne, after the kick ,could have spoiled, could have caused a concussion. Obviously intentional .

In the current climate the club might have got advice that they had little chance on appeal

Yep true  ..and if it was a week before a Prelim then the odds probably would have shifted the other way.

That's how all  " courts" work to some degree

Fair enough, although 700 metres is a lot of thrusts giving opportunities.

Maybe coaches are hard markers or they just remember what Chris Judd did with the ball

But if you're trying to fit Max Trac Ollie Kossie and Jake into the mix then the numbers are sure to be difficult to balance

Did the club say it was a fair penalty?  I must have missed that memo

And as much as people were concerned about the brain-fade, Kozzie has taken his game to a new level by the looks of it with a greater edge to his game

And I welcome that as the stars work to a different agenda.  He's possibly going to cross the line occasionally with that mindset

But for the most part, he can be a difference-maker

Well if they didn't think the report and penalty was on line with the rules they would have appealed.

    Surely?

They don't have to "say" anything and it's not like cricket where you only get 3 challenges.

Well we've now got about 30 bona-fide AFL standard players* and we've just dispatched a rival contender (Doggies) with 4 gun players out ... so we should be ok! 🙂

Competition for spots is at a premium and there's nothing wrong with competition within the ranks

Good players are playing for their spot

It's getting to a point where motivation is key ... and we look nice and hungry, Steve

*A far cry from the dark days

Footscray are just making up numbers in the eight... and this year that's only a maybe.

They need a new coach even more than North did when Scott somehow kept them from  a wooden spoon
