Has there ever been a Melbourne game win or lose where we werent mediocre ? FMD  Amazed no-one mentioned on this thread that all pies players rate 6/6.

I was at a Dee's game against the Swans...Bails vs Roos where everyone in red and Blue were better than excellent

Collingwood seem to want to choose when they "go" or not. If they play that kind of arrogant game plan, we will easily beat them. Especially without De Goey effecting the midfield battle.

I expect them to be "going", and we have to be "going" with them. If they get a good lead we will be done. This year we are better at playing for the 4 quarters. We've lost the capacity to put several goals on in short periods regularly (can't rely on a good burst) .

If we sustain our pressure, effort and complete the fundamentals well for the 4 quarters, then we go a long way to beating them.

My question is, can the Woods play a hard fought 4 quarter game, as I think we can?

    Go Dees

Given the Dee's 4 quarter games since they were premiers( basically

none ) surely the question should be which team wins close ones.

  4. Get Petty back to where he's best  .The backline is exposed without him

They are still the highest scoring forward line but its not because of Petty.

They can't play BBB and JVR in the same forward line unless they learn to kick

it to Brown on a lead.

TMac taking  a back out of the play  is old news, hes finished...BBB,JVR with Gawn/Grundy  and Fritta floating around is a marking quadrella

Defensive pressure  and fall of the ball action from the rest would help as would Kossi choosing when to chase a tackle      ( thats when he might catch them, not just look quick)

Maybe Oliver isn't the reason Trac won't win a Brownlow; both champs but perhaps not as effective as the legend on here suggests

Goodwin might stop saying " we back our system" or we're looking at getting the balance right" as well.

Two seasons of nonsense pressers  is enough ...time to target winning from 6th

King on 360 etc was spot on that there is a culture issue & something isn’t right, Gawny just doesn’t look right, with an extra ruck we should have dominated but yet we still lost on clearances , either our mids have stopped working hard or both Grundy & Gawn just isn’t working! What’s Goody plan B?? It’s the same old, the only saving grace is our loses have been 7, 4, 27,11 points but this premiership window may be about shut & the cliff is coming!

    Culture ?

Surely not....  they have  " Goody" as a coach

Me too Hardley. They were always on TV, along with Carlton and Richmond, while other clubs playing better were given slow motion replays on World of Sport. They were given their high membership numbers by channel 7 pushing them onto us, which continues to this day.

I would love to see us beat them on GF day.

But the fact that they swooped on the Olympic pool and running track site, after the MFC passed it up, makes me furious and hate them even more.

You hate dare, vision and intelligence then?

MFC is responsible for what they have created and the supporters and management they have attracted...and you hate others who have done nothing but succeed where MFC have failed

    Geez.

Now Richmond..  who moved into our ground and the State Govt and VFL who allowed it...they are worthy of disdain .

We seem to be susceptible to high levels of pressure.  Each team that has beaten us on pressure - and in particular stops us taking marks, beating us in the groundball and contested ball - beats us.

We keep backing our ‘system’ to win, but this relies on us keeping the ball under control and more in our forward half.  We dont seem to have ‘gears’ to shift our style, or responses to the Port model.  Why letting a midfielder keep racking them up against us, why not changing our midfield strategy or mix until after half time, why not changing the kick in or Exit strategy when all they are going to do is smash max, knock the ball 10 clear and have players in the zone to rapidly belt it back.

10-0 clearances in the last, about 10 minutes in their forward half in a row, zero effective exits. Reliance on the same old champs to rise and keep us in it.

One quarter of football our way and we almost Pinched it.

It was finals intensity, but we didn’t do enough.

lots of lessons, mainly for Goody and the team.  Gotta be better under the pump of a charging pressure team.

Pies will be interesting, a different challenge entirely.

You arnt suggesting they might beat the Pies are you?

I am more concerned about Carlton...they have a chance there because like Goodwin their coach was a good player on game day but can't coach on game day.

Pies and Cats are just losses to chalk up

  8. Giro ....anyone on board?

It's one of my favourites but time constraints and now off to the " dig tree" at Coopers Creek put me out of vision range.

    Updates welcomed

He also seems to have forgotten that 90 point win against "spuds" only last week.

Exactly my point North are spuds. Tiges was a good game to watch even if they had 9 out through injury and have only won 2 games.

Where are Swans on the ladder?

Essendon up and coming ..pants them ,Lions likewise

How do you think they will go against Cats  Pies  ,Port ,Saints and Adelaide on current form?

Theres nothing wrong with the list but they don't play like their reputation .

I hope I have misread this and you are not using “them” and “they” to refer to the MFC, because a true supporter would say”us” and “we”. So I must have misread this, right?

No an adult supporter would be mature enough to know that we support them.

You're pretty pathetic if you you think you represent the team .

Do you wear a jumper with your favourite players number on the back as well?

I stopped doing that when Bluey Adams retired.

What's the definition of hit out to advantage?  If it is hit directly to a player who is sure to be tackled instantly I wouldn't consider that to be an advantage (except when a team is trying to ice the clock).

It appears to be a fanciful stat for the sake of having a stat to valorise ruckmen when actually it's down to the efficiency of mids getting the ball forward to a team mate on the outside

I don't pretend to know what the AFL CEO does in his office or behind-the-scenes or whatever but so long as he sticks to his "I will always put the game first" mantra it can only hopefully be a good thing.

I guess not knowing what he does doesn't help me decide if he's going to be good or bad until he does something that's good or bad.

Can someone enlighten me on what his duties will be?

That's like a newly elected PM saying that he's humbled by the electorates choice

Where in my post did I say he was not a great footballer?

I said he will run the AFL one day. He has a finger in every pie and the media love him.
Just because I find him and his club insufferable, doesn’t mean I don’t recognize what a great player he’s been over the journey.

    Ha ha my bad..

I read  that you wrote " ruin" rather than "run "!!

In my defence I was born in Geelong and other than the home ground advantage favouritism thing I still have a soft spot for them.

Last years premiership team was  "complete ", brilliantly prepared  and Selwood and Dangerfield firmly turned the game when required after half time.

I hope Trac and Clarrie can become as precisely effective as  career partners.

I rather be playing the Cats for this year's flag than last year's.

I detest Richmond who were the Club that stole MFC' s home ground advantage

Because its Dangerfield. He will run the AFL one day. Everyone just loves to fawn all over him.

Same way that they tell me how great Hawkins is, because he literally decapitates his opponent each week so he can take a mark, and the umpires let it happen.

Imagine if Gawn could do half the [censored] Hawkins does... he would be taking 95 contested marks a game.

Tough on Dangerfield..more people hate him than recognise how valuable   he is to his team.

    You need to grow up

When Clarrie can produce a coherent sentence people will realise how good he is.
