Just now, BDA said:
malice or intent does not apply.
was the action careless or not is the question for the tribunal to ponder.
If you think it is not careless please explain why
According to all precedence this and last season it's careless ,severe and high( head).
Ticks those boxes ..its actually pretty straightforward even if we can accept, (easily enough) ,,that he didn't expect to concusss or even hurt Brayshaw, merely smother his kick.
The penalty is set in the book...appeals come after that so he can get off or maybe just one week
The Pies were smothering lazy kicks all night
-
Guys it's really not difficult
He ticks boxes there is a penalty applied.
It's written down in the rules
Careless( probably), intentional ( probably not)high, severe impact( definitely)
After that the appeal and this new born " football action" fantasy shirtfronts the process of the last two(?) seasons regarding the sacrosanct nature of the noggin.
Meanwhile the Dee's have more relevant matters to attend to

BBB was in the training squad, and going ok.
Knows the role well, as opposed to Turner.
Takes a big defender, leaving Fritta and/or Smith freer.
Not saying absolutely, only a possible.
In theory
Taking the biggest defender is traditionally the argument justifying TMac
BBB has shown that at best he has half a game in him and, in line with the history of forward entries ,and as recently as last thursday, the mids don't kick to forwards presenting on a lead....which is Browns natural way of playing
.
But I accept you were just observing that he looked ok.
Surely Smith ,Langdon and Grundy in some last gasp combination are more realistic choices ,albeit pretty ordinary.
Max stays behind the ball

Plenty of supporters were here today.
The players, though reserved, had a bit more noise about them than the last Wednesday's open training.
Usually they are having fun, getting amongst each other, and have smiles on their faces, only a little of this was observed.
Hope the stress isn't getting to them. They need the win against Blue, and to get the Mojo on.
Clarry is a worry, hope it is only a loading/recovery situation. Given that, he cannot seem to control his efforts when in a session. If tendon, then it can flare post 24–48 hrs after use, and be right to go again. He should be good, unless he picked up another niggle.
BBB is a chance to replace JVR, as Grundy trained with the mids. Gawn sitting out the session, he was in training gear and had about 10 minutes of work with the trainer.
Turner is also a chance to get a gig as a forward (bit of a "hail mary"),
Tomlinson looking strong, is he likely to get the sub position? (maybe not flexible enough)
JJ working hard and showing reliable kicking skills.
Overall it was a quick session, started with run throughs, then went to kicking drills within the forward arc with 4 starting points in congestion and some kaos. They spilt into their lines.
Backs finding spread and delivering through the middle.
Mids going lateral before heading into the forward area.
The Forwards delivering into their clump, where Stafford hangs out and directs.
They grouped, signed some small balls for the crowd , and then went into some simple goal kicking drills.
They left the field in drips and drops.
Tell me you're joking about BBB...pleeease.
A forward line built around TMac and BBB is ...........difficult to justify

Club to read this and implement fix:
What is disturbing is that's actually not news to anyone who actually watches the way they play...even when they are up and running.
Taking a shot at Brayshaws choice of kick is ignoring the fact its not a one off .

I don't think you can rule out the fact Gus's injury may have determined tge game or not. It was a 7 point difference . It's quite possible being a good player down played a part. Especially how our mids were dominated in the first half.
That said the issue is for Maynard to be punished and players protected
The media went into overdrive at every turn to protect this bloke. A player with his experience must of known he would collect Gus with all his weight. I can't say if it was premeditated or a simple rush of adrenaline bit an experienced player like Maynard knew a collision would result.
And he certainly chose at the last second to put his shoulder in.
This is why they judge on impact.
I don't dispute that his injury was both reportable or a factor in the loss.
I just think its more relevant to say that the 7 points rather suggests the Pies arnt flag favourites.
And also that given the Dee's played "spooked " for one quarter,"scrambled" for the next two, then choked in the last, they are hardly likely to take their dysfunctional and injury riddled front half to a rematch this season.
It's a pitythough, because knocking both Collingwood and Carlton out in one series would be a September for the ages

It’ll be the sole reason we don’t win another flag.
Forward connection and turnover transition is what they need to work on preseason drill after drill after drill. No more excuses.
Lions are ordinary bar a few decent players but they play their system and use their advantages so well.
So you are saying that 2 sessions are enough to top up on thd skills ,systems and available players they have had 2 seasons to get right and clearly you didn't watch either Brisbane or GWS yesterday.
Anyway perhaps they might try and beat Carlton first.
Geez there's one eyed and there's denial

All in all its irrelevant beyond the injury to Brayshaw.
It's not why Collingwood won or Melbourne lost and and in fact the Pies will be more worried about Brisbane and perhaps even GWS than anything else.
Maynard or not I doubt that they are flag favourites any more
Toby on Daicos..I'd like to see that

How did i get the 'facts' about QF losers wrong?
Dud you not say QF losers were historically likely to win the flag?
If you didn't then I apologise, but the fact is they are statistically much more likely not to.
Of course with no forward line to speak of and having lost the QF should the Dee's win the flag it would be truly a sporting triumph
Anyway as far as stats go the seasons forward 50 entries per half is the most relevant one.
Perhaps the only relevant one

I think we can do it.
We are playing a great brand of finals contested footy and won nearly all the stats that matter (yes, except the one that matters most).
We aren't limping to the finish line with a banged up list like last year. To the contrary, we are storming home in most games.
Teams should rightly fear playing us and I'm sure if you asked the Collingwood FD they probably wouldn't want to play us again in the Grand Final.
Judt a banged up forward line including one of the best bricks in the previous defensive wall ( which was the best in the competition

Our boys just don’t roll over no matter how many players we lose. Neither should we as supporters. What has rolling over to do with supporters understanding that the unlikeliest victory is exactly that..!!
Now the coach and the players...they won't be rolling over...that's relevant.
Should they win it will be because of their commitment, not yours

We have a day extra recovery on Carlton, they limped over the line in the last, we finished very strongly.
They players would be angry how they let that opportunity slip threw their fingers, this is different from last year.
One word its all it is "Composure" all that was missing from the white board, Composure in front of goal.
What's done is done we are in good health.
Since " chaos ball" days there has been quite some improvement in the list but what hasn't improved is decision making in the contest, disposal skills or composure across the ground.
You can see it down back when Jake is marshalling the " troops" and Petty would know where to go and what to do,but that finishes past the centre square

And why does Collingwood turn up the volume to 11 at the breaks? It's already too loud. And when they invite 10 year olds to yell into the microphone.. give me a break.
Save some money and jstf up so I can talk to my company or even the bloke I don't know sitting next to me

He could have broken Petraccas leg doing that. Really dangerous, irresponsible and childlike. Cite.
What gets me is the whole competition knows Gus is a concussion survivor and plays on a wing and prayer and is the one player you dont deliberately knock out. Maynard knows Gus and knows this well. 4 weeks.
Maybe he didn't mean to do it..which makes it careless rather than attempted murder.
Whatever the penalty is for the boxes he ticked
Jack was probably more considered with his wild right hook.
What if that had landed?
If you wanted outrage wait until the Pies get Maynard off on appeal !!!

So according to this thread tackling, smothering, marking contests and any sort of collisions should be outlawed.
Honestly this game has 20 years left as we know it and I mean that sincerely. There's no way you are going to stop concussions completely and until there is some kind of technology that can pad the brain better then we'll obviously need to keep doing these kinds of measures.
"Go hard, put pressure on the ball carrier but don't leave the ground or stop mid air or make the split second decision to turn the shoulder the right way"
"Don't go for a smother, let him kick the ball inside 50"
"Tackle hard but not too hard"
"Pull out of marking contests"
I care about protecting the head as much as the next person but this is getting out of hand if you want to follow the sport.
That's why a red card and off the ground for 10 minutes makes sense

I would bring in JJ for Gus and Grundy for JVR, Tomlinson to bolster Backline and Woewodin or Spargo to replace Laurie, Grundy CHF to ruck forward line and rough up opposition.!!
The best bit about that is that Max can play behind the ball when he's not rucking.
It's not as if he's a gun forward himself

Barrett on AFL website says its a football act therefore no suspension.
What an [censored]. Does that mean you can spoil in a contest and knock someone out every time?
The act of spoiling properly is ok but the act of knocking some one out is not.
The ball was likely past Maynard before he even launched. It was a reckless decision as contact was inevitable before he launched himself.
Where did this " football act " come from?
Was it just last week or have I not been paying attention?
Both possibilities are likely( smile)

Injury Cloud over Max & Clarry
in Melbourne Demons
How did Cox break Cripps ribs?
Did Maynard help him ?
