Brisbane have to win so I can reply to some of these Collingwood fans on social media.

One Collingwood fan actually wrote he'd rather make these grand finals & even if they lose, than be a hawthorn who won 3 in a row then gone backwards.

Really? They haven't won a gf in 13 years & are you really proud to boast about it when your club has the most gf losses.

Don't get me wrong I wish we would make more gf and yes I'm annoyed that we have stuffed up our chances but I'll take 2021 than losing 2 hopefully 3 in the last 13 years.

You'll take 2021 over Geelongs last 10 years as well I guess?

That's as implausible as the Collingwood nonsense.

A flag in 1964 then 2021, then  a  "dynasty "..... 2 seasons  of straight sets  fails,

    I mean seriously?

There's never been a team like them. They keep getting away with it. It's astounding. Brisbane was really the only team this year that really beat up on them. Melbourne kept them in it on King's Birthday, and gifted them a win in the QF. I feel like team's go into their shell when they play them.

Collingwood do often win by small margins, so often one might say it's a strength.

They certainly dont throw away games and have supporters trying to turn that into how unlucky they were.

On top of that ,thuggery and all, they play like they are enjoying it.

Maybe Goodwins boys could take a leaf out that book and see if it helps their big game lack of composure.

    Fmd!

MFC arnt in the G/F because of  a dysfunctional forward line ,injuries  and lack of poise when the pressure is on.

    They certainly try hard though

    I'm confused..

Is this thread about Kane Cornes or how [censored] the umpires are??

"Kane being Kane" best commentator in AFL

You have to have a schtik to kerp the job and he's found one that sucks everyone in.

He throws it out ,along with genuine insights and opinions, and people roll up to criticise him.

He doesn't care..its just theatre; while many he upsets are irrelevant wanna be's without any real association with the sport.

On the other hand you have dead set idiots like BT or truly insightful special comments people like Daisy Pearce.

No one really talks about what they say.

Sorry, IRW; it did sound like I was mounting an argument. But, as 'Mad As Hell' (aren't we all?!) character Chris Lorax would say, it was 'Just a bit of fun...' Missed the mark, obviously.

And anyway, embarrassingly, I think I did get my facts wrong: was it Collingwood and Carlton only we and Essendon beat?

Nice to be considered childish, though, approaching the big Seven-O! (see, I can't help myself😁)

Cheerful senility ,It always amuses my children as well.

    Carry on by all means

Just us and Essendon, who beat us.

    Go figure.

And yes, we did. But I'm hoping to enjoy 2024 on its merits, not with baggage.

    And meanwhile we've got this:

    Nowhere near Brisbane..you're kidding yourself.

Everyone in the top half can have a win..its winning when it's tough or when it matters that makes a genuine Premiership team.

Both those sides also beat Melbourne this year...and how does the record vs Carlton fit into your rather childish argument

Ratogalea !! I think he was nominating Power as his intended destination.  Not sure why but they want a KPB to compliment Allir or KPF to replace Dixon.

So I heard..I also heard the Cats were interested in Grundy.

What I didn't hear was any rumours of MFC trying to work with the Cats and Ratogolea.

     Maybe S.A is "home"?

..I was just puzzled and then I hear that MFC is getting  a 182 cm forward !

We may as well resign ourselves to TMac and BBB waxing injury time for another 12 months

Jefferson is a wait and see imv.  Some good signs but not enough. Too early.   He’s better than Lucas Cook but might trend into a Weideman type (bloke you wish your daughter marries but wouldn’t crash through a pack to grab the footy at all costs).

Why are they " definitely  "getting a 182 cm Crow forward and not Ratogalea?

195 minimum who has good hands.

Now, I can cop the criticism from Garry Lyon. Because he is a champion of the Melbourne Demons.

But to get insulted by a knuckle-dragging imbecile like Campbell Brown is beyond the pale.

He called the Melbourne Football Club "fragile" and "pathetic" for making up excuses.

Here is the link to the article: https://www.news.com.au/sport/afl/exafl-gun-unloads-on-fragile-dees-absolutely-pathetic-excuse/news-story/f4a53703b7ac54ec098740a3dee7c989

All I will say is that I hope the Melbourne Demons players stick this article to their locker doors in the change rooms.

They need to be motivated to seek redemption in season 2024 and beyond. Otherwise, insults from morons like Campbell Brown and other media snipers will continue!

This utter disrespect makes my blood boil! 🤬🤬🤬🤬

But unless we win those cut-throat finals at the MCG infront of huge crowds then this shadow of being "mentally weak" shall continue to follow the Melbourne Football Club. Time for a new mindset of stoicism and determination from both our players and our coaches.

    You are quibbling about adjectives?

How about the attitude of the players?

I remember them boasting about a dynasty before they even  got off the ground after winning the flag !!

It was presumptuous then ; embarrassingly revealing of their immaturity and they don't seem to have either grown, or smartened , up by now.

Dumb, immature, fragile, chokers, naive without poise or confidence...who cares what they are called ?

RDB would be pointing out its not whether youre the best or most talented that is relevant,it's whether you bring your own best to the team  that will make a winning team.

The last two years actually flatter them

If you were doing the exit interviews, what would be a key message that you would want delivered to a particular player? Where would you want them to focus in the off season to improve?

Verall: More Fitness and marking, getting to contests to be improved

Jefferson: More muscle mass and hit more contests.

Howes:  More fitness and strength to challenge for a wing spot in 24

    (etc)

Then there are ones like “enjoy your retirement” to BBB, TMAc, Hibbo, Melk, etc, and ‘enjoy the Harbour views, Grundy”

    What messages would you give?

I would apologise to Hibbo  ..and possibly Grundy..except he's had  chilled year running back to form and fitness at a lower level on a good wage

And if it's kicked to a 1v1 where Kozzy is the small on a tall interceptor, he should just let them intercept it in the air, uncontested?

    Righto.

I think he was really implying pack marking attempts which seems to be Kossi 's speciality.

And I mean attempts; I wonder if he holds them at training ,like the forwards slot goal after goal in the pre game warm up

Rohan the Man is a plagiarist. It is word for word - or its gist - what I wrote:

It's worth Melbourne and Port Adelaide fans pondering that as they pick over the entrails of their team's defeats. Because I'm not sure the level of angst about either necessarily matches the reality of their position. Particularly when it comes to the Dees.

    ESPN/Getty Images

Of course, the Demons shot themselves in the foot in not just one but two finals, losing both by a combined total of just nine points having booted a collectively ridiculously wasteful 16.28. But you also need a bit of luck on your side to win premierships, and this season Melbourne had precious little, particularly near goal.

Tom McDonald and Ben Brown were injured, out of sorts, or both. Then Bayley Fritsch got hurt. Then, just as Melbourne appeared to have crafted first one, then a second more-than-adequate back-up plan in attack with Harrison Petty and Jake Melksham, they suffered season-ending injuries. And just to rub salt in the wound, young gun Jacob van Rooyen got suspended.

Even then, the Dees still managed to find goals in their two finals out of Fritsch, Kysaiah Pickett and Joel Smith. Even then, they managed 18 scores to Collingwood's 15 in the qualifying final and 26 to 18 against the Blues.

But the repeated disruptions to any sort of continuity of structure simply had to take a toll. On both efficiency and conversion. And Melbourne still was oh-so-close to winning either game. In fact, I'd go so far as to suggest had even one, let alone both Petty and Melksham stayed upright, the Dees might very well have ended up premiers.

On that basis, while the hand-wringing about Melbourne potentially squandering a golden era is understandable, I think it's completely over the top.

The Demons were still a healthy enough sixth for points scored this year and defensively were ranked behind only St Kilda. They were ranked top six in five out of six midfield categories and were close to the best in the business in terms of occupying territory.

They had the second-most experienced games average in but were still youthful enough, with a handful of clubs still older and with more over 30s. They got valuable experience into the likes of Van Rooyen and Judd McVee, and even now-experienced premiership players like Trent Rivers and Tom Sparrow took steps forward.

Yes, another key forward should be a priority. But that may well be all that is needed for Melbourne to continue to push for a premiership for some time yet.

No point in having a key forward if you don't kick it to him on a lead or when he's just one on one without a small forward or a ruckman jumping all over him

Ask yourself what part of our game needs Petty the most? Forward of course.

Who replaces Petty down back Disco  of course. And possibly Adams for Maysie.after 2024/5 when some cameos have been given so he develops.

Surely they are still hoping for at least one more piwer marking forward  given they have two that arnt anywhere near best 22 any more.

    Wrong wrong wrong

A fit Petty Will HEAD UP a rejuvenated forward line and DISCO will be Added to the backline. It's a sad affair he has not  been given this season like McVee to adjust and he would be ready made now for 2024. He still has to go through some teething but I can see him over that quickly early in 2024.

Well Petty looked ok in the 3 or 4 games he played forward ,I'll give you that.

He's been great down back with Salo ,Pig , Jake,Maysie and Riv

I don't understand why they weren't chasing Ratogalea..they could have given Grundy to  Port and got a big bodied swing man from Geelong

    Somehow?

    Win win

Ok, i thought they both left for more opportunities.  Missed the bit where Hunt wanted to stay.  Suggest he would have had very little game

Hunt definitely did not want to leave and Bedford was not getting game time because the coach wouldn't play him.

    It's called pretty simple equation.

MFC is treacle slow   and Kossi spends a lot of time quickly  chasing defenders but too is late to catch them .

It looks ridiculous and is a waste of his undoubted talents
