So according to this thread tackling, smothering, marking contests and any sort of collisions should be outlawed.

Honestly this game has 20 years left as we know it and I mean that sincerely. There's no way you are going to stop concussions completely and until there is some kind of technology that can pad the brain better then we'll obviously need to keep doing these kinds of measures.

"Go hard, put pressure on the ball carrier but don't leave the ground or stop mid air or make the split second decision to turn the shoulder the right way"

"Don't go for a smother, let him kick the ball inside 50"

"Tackle hard but not too hard"

    "Pull out of marking contests"

I care about protecting the head as much as the next person but this is getting out of hand if you want to follow the sport.

That's why a red card and off the ground for 10 minutes makes sense

I would bring in JJ for Gus and Grundy for JVR, Tomlinson to bolster Backline and Woewodin or Spargo to replace  Laurie, Grundy CHF to ruck forward line and rough up opposition.!!

The best bit about that is that Max can play behind the ball when he's not rucking.

It's not as if he's a gun forward himself

Barrett on AFL website says its a football act therefore no suspension.

What an [censored]. Does that mean you can spoil in a contest and knock someone out every time?

The act of spoiling properly is ok but the act of knocking some one out is not.

The ball was likely past Maynard before he even launched. It was a reckless decision as contact was inevitable before he launched himself.

Where did this " football act " come from?

Was it just last week or have I not been paying attention?

    Both possibilities are likely( smile)

  4. He's my tip  so that you carry on disliking me

Guilty careless, severe;2 weeks or whatever the rule says.

Appeal because now there is this  "football act" invention

Overturned  on appeal free to play

All that is in doubt is whether is a speedy process or it takes to the Thursday before the Prelim

who cares?! he needed to be sent off. other teams get the advantage of him not playing and we lose a key player 5 minutes into the game. ridiculously unfair

Now ..the send off rule might indeed need to be revisited.

If they had rightly been required to play play one short for 10 minutes then they would have had to change their gameplan and the previously disadvantaged team, having lost a key player  may have been able to restructure somewhat and get the game back on even terms.

It has always made sense   but agreeing on the terms is difficult

Noticed the same thing. It puzzled me at the time.

Thete was plenty of goal kicking practice early on

They all  nailed it from 40 to 50 out.

Fritsch stayed out in the first rain to get the feel of the ball.

They lost their Zen under pressure  when the game started and no one was leading the way until Max stepped up just before half time.

By then it was  just their old chaotic scramble to keep in touch; hardly the way to unsettle a team playing with their noses in front from the first minute of a Prelim..( actually the whole season)

9.6!!! They kicked 9.6 and held on... FMD.

I thought the winning team from last night would have one hand on the cup, I don't think so now.

Problem with Thursday night games is the little sleep you get and you're still wired lol. Missed opportunity for sure and it hurts. Might get another 90k next week if it's Caaaarlton.

Brisbane just became flag favourites for mine.

    Melbourne should chase Ratogalea

This is a huge issue. But if we moved it quick we had nothing to kick to. So the forwards pushed up too far too clog the corridor and couldn't get back quickly enough to be an option.

Yep  both correct but it's true we propped and missed opportunities.

How many times did they have manage to have one player running down into  the fat side to keep the attack going.

Playing with " dare" our Daisy calls it.

    I’ll just leave this here:

Goodwin: “In finals, your vulnerabilities are exposed”

Our vulnerability is our ability to score. It’s been our vulnerability for 2 years, and we thought we could fix it with an old forward who hasn’t played AFL footy in months

    What choice did he have?

Better set up around marking contests perhaps might have helped.

That's coaching and discipline from the smalls.

    Pleased with the fightback.

Bad kicking loses games every time

    Tmac wasn't a good selection

But we can still do this

Pies looked bog ordinary when the heat is applied Cox and Mayonnaise are sniping dogs

    Who's next?

TMac was no surprise but really they had to pick him .

I would have gone with Grundy but then that's not going to  happen is it

Gee, lighting and all. Good thing we're lighting specialists  :)

They're bring out the blankets in the committee room as we speak.

I can't see if they are going down to the interchange bench.

    I guess not

    Carnage tonight.

Expect T Mac to play like it is his last game and he has to go back to Edenhope tomorrow... 😍

He looked good on the walk around of the ground

Bigger than 80% of the team and a better hair cut than Fritta who, at least ,is out on the ground getting  used to a wet ball.

First lightning and thunder and it aint the Pies

For the past 6 weeks, Melbourne is 3 for scoring and 3 for points against. We’re in the top right hand corner of the Premiership window metrics.

Collingwood is 5th for points for and 14th for points against.

Just for reference, Geelong was 1 and 1 the last 6 weeks in 2022 before finals.

We might not win tomorrow night, but the Pies aren’t winning the flag.

Well I hope not myself, but you have no idea ..you're looking backwards
