    we-ve-got-a-special-bond-hibberd-playing-for-the-essendon-34-and-his-brother

It is wonderful that if Hibberd plays and wins a premiership medal that he dedicates it to his brother.

But I can't abide that he is representing the 34 WADA suspended Essendon players.Ā  They were found guilty by the highest court in the world.Ā  It is beyond crass and disrespectful to invoke those players in our premiership campaign.

ā€œI guess I represent those guys. I do. I feel like I represent all those guys over all the years. We’ve got a special bond, whether we contact each other frequently or not, I think it’s a bond I’ll have with those guys forever.ā€

I get that he has a special bond with them but why invoke them now!!Ā

I would rather he talked about representing Melbourne supporters, getting a flag for us, creating our history, playing for his teammates etc

I have an ugly lump in my throat.Ā  We remember the ambush and thuggery of 2020.Ā  He needs to learn something of our history and should know how galling that interview is for Demon fans.

There may some on here that have forgiven.Ā  I haven't.Ā

I hope he doesn't play in the GF.Ā  His jumper colours are red and blue but based on that article it sounds like his heart beats for the red and black.

    Seriously love this.

Rarely do we ever get Garry Lyon interview on the MFC website.

    Well done Benny Gibson.Ā

    Ā

When Kate Roffey she arrived she said she would work to bring past players back to the club.Ā  This could have her fingerprints on it.

    Ā

As and aside.Ā  Love the Jaguar ad at the start of all the club videos lately.Ā  Every word about the car sounds just like our attitude to this season and the GF.

This is my favourite GF thread so thought I should contribute my demon decor efforts:

The last photo is to acknowledge the 1964 Premiership team (on the wall) and be ready to celebrate the handover to the new Premiers on Sept 25 (if we win), in true Melbourne supporter style with wine and cheese!

Curious timing with the grand final around the corner.

I was thinking the same thing.

First the Jones retiring announcement now the Melksham story and our season isn't finished yet.

    As you say, curious timing.

Would have thought everyone would keep their powder dry 'til after the GF to not distract the team from focusing on our ultimate goal.Ā  List changes can wait.

This is a bit worrisome, every one remembers crows in 2017 stern faces all round and got pumped, need to let the players have a life and not get to wound up this far out. Still got another 9 days to go.

They don't call the Crows 'fruit loops' for no reason.Ā

On a different note, the players have said how much they feel for us supporters in lockdown and missing out on sharing the finals with them.Ā  I like to think that being back by 9.00pm (Melb curfew time) shows a bit of empathy for our plight. While unlikely it makes me feel better that they are staying focused.

I can empathize with the sentiment of a long suffering punter. After all I am one myself.

However, I hate the attitude that it’s our ā€˜turn’ and that we are owed a premiership based on who we are.Ā

That type of thinking was what got us into this drought and is a big reason why Carlton is where they are.Ā

Not sue either article in this thread says that.Ā

Re the history part, rationally we all know that yesterday is no guide to tomorrow.Ā Ā I'm happy to dream for a further10 days andĀ šŸ¤žĀ there is another fairytale/cinderalla story in the making.

Its the editors that create story titles not the authors.Ā  Click bait!

  9. If that is surprising why are they not expessing surprise at the AFL placing the whole Demon and Bulldogs enoturages in separate rooms, with separate catering staff at the Brownlow.Ā  Both groups will be away from other attendees.Ā

Demons and Bulldogs are/ will be out of quarantine and are more likely to catch something in the community than at the Brownlow.

After spending the best part of the last month in quarantine in Vic, Qld, SA and WAx2 I doubt the players would be complaining about their new found freedom.Ā  Especially knowing their family, friends and fans are locked up.

A cheap 'click bait' headline at mfc expense by Channel 9.

Similar theme to the the Guardian article.Ā Ā

    another-cinderella-story

"The oft-held wisdom in AFL circles is that you have to lose one to win one and use the pain of defeat to inspire the deeds of victory. But when a team has a sense of destiny, that they alone can turn around the fortunes of a sad history, and they harness the power and energy of belief, it can certainly overcome everything else".

This centuries premiership drought breakers: Lions, Swans, Geelong, Hawthorn, Bulldogs, Tigers all with first time coaches (except LIons) and first time in GF after long absents.Ā Ā

    What time is it?Ā Ā

    Its Demon Time!!šŸ¤žĀ

Really Great and all that Daisy is comparing her contribution to Melb at this stage it would be an insult to Neiter Ā Stynes Todd V Schwartz and many others Hassan Mann included.

Glen Bartlett is already in WA also.

Let Daisy shine in the AFLW at this stage please and maybe play in a flag this year.Ā
I also include her role in propelling W footy greatly but plenty in AFL have deserved this honour prior to our much loved No 1 AFlW star.Ā

Where and to whom did Daisy compare her contribution?

Do you know how many premiership medals, BnF, AA's and captain stripes Daisy has, in the best comps available to her?.Ā Ā

Daisy loves the Dees so much she boldly told Gill to stuff his AFLW if she couldn't play for her beloved Dees.Ā Ā

I don't think Daisy will be the one nominated by the club to present the cup but you are seriously undervaluing her achievements and value to mfc.Ā  If by some chance she was nominated she would be very worthy of the honour.Ā Ā

Apologies if I’ve missed it, but why only Carlton? If it’s true that they’re all he’s interested in apart from us having a cheeky crack, why them?

Why not, you know, a proper club? With a coach, CEO and any semblance of direction. I was baffled when Saad and Williams went there, wanting to go there now seems like absolute madness to me.Ā
    Ā

Why aren’t Hawthorn or North an option? Why aren’t Richmond moving some deck chairs to replace old deck chairs like Cotchin and Edwards and the injury prone meatball?

    Have I missed something?

One or more of:Ā  lack of interest/ lack of trade currency/ lack of sal cap.Ā Ā

Ess were interested but dropped out when they realised how good their midfield really is and prefer to spend the $ on the players they have.

Rich dropped out when they realised how poor their midfield is and decided to use their very juicy draft picks for new talent.

    I don’t disagree with you, but you also don’t know everyone’s circumstances.Ā
I help my dad every few weeks with errands and other essentials as my mum doesn’t drive and he’s had multiple blood transfusions recently so is prone to dizziness. I’m also an only child.Ā
We’ve both had one dose. I get tested every time before I go see him so I know I’m negative.Ā
I will be bringing him and my mum over to my place to watch the grand final as the game will finish after curfew and we have a spare room for them to stay. We will all get tested beforehand.
I feel 0 guilt for it. I have done the right thing for 18 months. But I’ll be damned if I miss out on this once in a lifetime opportunity to watch the grand final with my dad. This might never come around again in his lifetime. Or mine even.Ā
If that upsets you, I’m really sorry and I understand. The last 2 years have been awful and hard and debilitating and downright draining. Melbourne has given us the one piece of hope and happiness to hold onto this year and I don’t want to waste it, and frankly I can’t blame anyone else who feels the same.Ā
We are human. We can only take so much before our tank runs dry. Mine has well and truly run dry.Ā

Hope you have an Uber account ;-)

Got my tickets and whilst I’m ecstatic, need to be humble as I’m still a little sad for all those back in Melbourne who through no fault of their own cannot attend.

Special thanks to @Lucifer's HeroĀ what you have done for my nephew can not be put into words. Throughout my correspondence with you relating to the barcodes you have shown what a generous person you are who cares for others. I really hope Karma comes back and touch wood you get to attend the last day in September next year to see our beloved Demons

Very kind and generous words.Ā  Thank you.

Delighted to help make your nephew happy.Ā  Hope it is special for both of you and the family.

And with the karma you are sending my way, maybe I can shareĀ  the day with my niece at the G next year.Ā Ā

My son and I are yet to receive our emails from the club! Ā I’m assuming it’s because we’re interstate members, but they had told me that we’d get them on Sunday, when I spoke to them late last week. Ā Anyone else still waiting on theirs?

Barcode number is on the back of your membership card; just above the barcode itself.

    who-will-present-the-premiership-cup-melbourne

The clubs get to suggest to the AFL someone present the cup if we win.

It has to be someone already in WA.Ā  Fox's ideas.

    • Garry Lyon - club great
    • Shane Woewodin - 2000 Brownlow medallist; played in our last GF.
    • Ken Melville 1953 Bluey winner.Ā  played in 1955 and 1956 premierships
    • Adam Yze - played in our last GF
    • Glen Bartlett - immediate past President
    • KateĀ  Roffey - current President

On premiership credentials Ken Melville would get the nod.Ā  He is 90 and if able I think is the one.

Otherwise Garry would be my choice.Ā  Ā

I reckon May plays.Ā  The club said the hamstring is related to his back.Ā  This is consistent with May missing a game late in the season for back issues.Ā  He missed one week.Ā  He now has two weeks to rest up.Ā Ā

When Hibberd was dropped post Bulldgos, Bowey came in and has cemented his spot and the team included Hunt.Ā  The only changes we've had since were for injuries utilising Smith then Hibberd when Smith went out..Ā

Based on that recent history I think our selection order is Hunt, Smith then Hibberd.

Our 'settled' team is with Hunt and if fit I think he will come in for Hibberd.Ā  Hunt's speed will be an asset vs the fast wbd mid sized wds.

I don't envy selectors.Ā  Some worthy players will miss out on a dream to have a chance at a premiership.
