  1. No, it was Tony Campbell who ran in from half forward and sprayed it when he could have handpassed to Robbie sitting all alone in the goal square. Eishold had the shot on goal on an acute angle but on the edge of the goal square and slipped as he kicked and skewered it for a point.

Tony Campbell. Is that the bloke that cost us the game and not Jim when he ran over the mark?. In the dying minutes of the game we had I think about 3 three shots that could have sealed the game. I still feel crook in the guts when I read about . Think I will stop.

  2. No shame in a few tears Swooper, one of my boys was also in tears after the game - so much expectation after so long in the wilderness.

Mind you we should not have blamed Jimmy for the loss as Yeats, Campbell and Eishold all missed sitters in the last quarter that would have sealed the game. Eishold's effort in particular was a disgrace from close in.

Was it Eishold that had the shot outside the point post with Robbie " Brownlow" waving frantically ,unguarded for a hand pass in the goal in the square in the dying seconds of the game? I reckon the spray Wispy haired Northey gave Jim after the game would make Neelds words to Jack sound like a Sunday School lecture.

  3. I may not be as articulate as some posters on this thread but I cannot hold back any longer I have been a supporter of our Club for something like 70 yrs even following them when we played our home games at Punt Rd as the M C G was unavailable during the war years I am appalled by some suggestions that Jim be asked to resign. sacked or to take a pay cut. All this coming from supposed "supporters" of Club I would say that Jim has given his guts and more for our club and to treat him in such disrespect saddens me greatly. Now on Gary .I don`t care whether he was asked ,stuck his bib in or what but he came in our of need,as friends do,to help. Of course the proof of the pudding etc but I firmly believe we have a very good coaching panel led by Mark. As an interstater I love the training notes so keep up the good work boys. God bless Jim and his family

  4. Actually Norm Smith encouraged Ron to take up the postion at Carlton. It may be in his book which I will buy shortly. I took my two young boys to watch Ron play his last game at Princes Pk.against whom I forget. He left the ground some time in the last quarter from memory to a generous round of applause from all supporters. My young boys wore nos 9 [brian Dixon ] and 31 on their hand knitted footy jumpers Now in their 50s they still remember the occasion

  5. If we wanted a media performer as a coach we should have contracted Eddie. All I want is a top coach and good bloke who can help us win a few games of footy .,more the merrier From what I have read we have that in Mark. Time will tell of course.

  6. I recently read a book by a reporter from the Geelong Advertiser who was embedded with the G F C from go to whoa in the year they won the first of their 3 Prems. Similar to the one written about N M the year they won the replay G F Grand. Summing up his thoughts on the Club, he said in his opinion their best recruit was Neil Balme. Football Mngr I feel ours will be Neil Craig

  7. You make some good points Bush. All of them i agree with. How the board didn't realize $$$ were coming into the game is deplorable. But i still believe when Smithy was Sacked for those 2 days? a connection within the club was lost. Building a statue at the MCG will help immensly. Norm will be home again forever.

We Demon supporters should all be at the unvieling.

Wonderfull suggestion. As a kid I had the opportunity to see Norm play. I think his no was 4. Stand corrected. Best memory again 1948. Grand Finals Norm was selected at CHF with Jack Mueller at FF. Jack stood in the goal sq all the forwards drifted up to the centre would grab the ball and pump it down to Jack most times one out. From reading on the Forum I feel Neeld may be in the mould of Norm, big call. Great times ahead. Give up never won a race.

  8. Fantastic. Thanks for the insight V.O.D. You would have seen quite a few Premierships. Hopefully there's a great era of footy for the MFC just around the corner !

Yes. The ones in the 50 s but did not witness them as away from Melb However I was at the G in 1958 when I saw Hooker Harrison and Weidiman C Wood,at this stage cannot call them The F---h,demolish us and so stopped us equallng their record of 4 consecitive premierships, The forum has been a godsend to me as I now live in Q L D, by keeping me up todate with the goings on. We seem to assembling a team as Norm Smith did in the early 50s, Trust we will return to those days.
