Tapscott is still developing his game, he's young.... He'll be a better player than Moloney, when he's at his peck..... He's got the hardness and the grunt that Moloney has + he dose the 1% and his kicking skills are great.... He'll get more of the ball, as he and the team get better ...
He's a definite keeper for me ...
He also happens to be the best mate of one of our captains ...
Tapscott offers more than stats. Hardness, physical intimidation, good skills, no shortcuts. He busts a gut. One to keep.

how could anyone actually want to get Gumbleton.
He is a joke.
agree ... he gets injured getting out of bed. WHY ??? injured riddled. John Meesen mark 2. (NO WAY JOSE)
-
I don't know if he's been mentioned but given that Geelong appears to be showing interest in some of our players why not consider someone like Mitch Brown who has been there for four years and hasn't become a regular with the likes of Hawkins, Podsiadly and now Walker ahead of him?
Mitch Brown has had 4 years at the Cattery and for a #15 1st round pick has shown nought. Still skinny arms and shoulders "heavily strapped". Would be a Lucas Cook with 2 extra years. a big "pass" (aka NO) from me.

As reported in The Australian
Apart from Caddy and Jolly, the two names on the Suns' lips were Maverick Weller and Josh Toy. The out-of-contract pair appear in the Suns' sights as the Gold Coast looks to reduce its roster to 39 by October 31 to make room for its draft picks.
Josh Fraser's retirement and Nathan Krakouer's departure ensure five players must go and Ashcroft admitted Toy and Weller faced "nervous waits".
Maverick Weller was one of the 17 yo preference picks by the Suns. Very very highly rated junior, from Burnie in Tassie. Hard at the footy, good pace and skills. I think we can grab a good one here. He is out of contract after two years. I rate him in the same class as Tom Scully.
-
Troy Menzel at pick 15+ is a bargain and worth the risk. Not at pick 3,4, 13 in my opinion where we would get the same of better player in a fitter heathier state. If he slides to a later pick, then yes.
-
Yes Ben Jacobs would play the half back/quarterback role (that we desprately need). He HAS very good skills ... Grant Birchall like.
This will clean up the mess that Barry Prendergast delivered. Pick 12 - Lucas Cook - OMG. Jacobs, Atley and Darling were all rated at pick 9-12 and were all available.
It's a big YES from me.
-
Koby Stevens would walk into our midfield. He can run and deliver the footy to AFL standards. Tough at it.
-
Jesse Hogan (future big fwd star in the making) = MFC pick 3 trade in Mini Draft ... lock it in. Maybe we pinch back GWS 3rd round pick around number 43.
... just to restate. Control tower to AAMI centre MFC HQ.
WE MISSED JACK DARLING. DO NOT MISS JESSE HOGAN.

North have said Pedersen won't be traded and is contracted next year. Could make it difficult.
-
Yes it appears Caddy is another in the line of players (Judd, Hale, Burgoyne, Warnock, Ball) who have said "No thanks" to life at MFC. The underachieving culture is a problem. Caddy is looking at Blues, Cats, Pies and Kangas (Blues favoured).
footnote: Mitch Clark was a catch, but at a decent $$$ rate. Agree with the pick 12 trade and he will be a key to our future.

Move on ... Colin is signed for 3 years and has shown ability at AFL level. You don't just give up a 23year old with his experience now. I agree one brain fade agst Port, but remember his matchwinning effort vs the Bombers. Move on moderator. We have seen enough.
-
moderator ... shut it down. It is and will not be for sale. More speculative than us getting Gary Ablett. Move on.
-
Not suggesting we trade Gysberts for Stevens but I am saying they are different types of players.
And as per average salaries, which are now around $240k / player. It is skewed by the top 10% getting on average $500-600k. Stevens would take the 3 years, a VIc based hometown team and the carrot of a regular game.

Retain:
Core group (10): Jones, Clark, Grimes, Frawley, Howe, Trengove, T Macd, Sylvia, Blease, Jordie Mck
Role (9): Garland, Jamar, Watts, Tapscott, Dunn, Sellar, Nicholson, Strauss, Bail,
Developing (4) Taggert, Tynan, Fitzpatrick, Gawn
On the fringe (5): Davey, Jetta, Spencer, Joel Macd, Davis.
= 28
Retired – Brad Green
Free agents: Jared Rivers, Brent Moloney, Matthew Bate
Trade: Petterd (or delist), Morton, Martin, Gysberts
Delist – Cook, Jurrah, Bennell, Bartram
That’s up to 12 spots available. But I think the club may stop at 10. It is still a huge 25% turnover of the group.
WHAT WE NEED
1- an absolute star and leader. : Brendan Goddard
2- mids, mids and mids
Free agent : Darryle Pearce (Power)
Trade for: Sharrod Wellingham (Pies – trade for Stef Martin & our comp free agent pick for Rivers approx 30), Josh Caddy (Suns - trade for pick 13), Mav Weller (Suns – swap for Jordan Gysberts), Koby Stevens (Eagles), Jed Lamb (Swans), Brett Meredith (Swans), Jarryd Lyons (crows),
Draft: Jack Viney ( a given), plus at least min. two of these players
- pick 3,4 : Brodie Grundy, Jimmy Toumpas, Oliver Wines, Sam Mayes
- pick 13: Ben Kennedy, Jake Stringer Jackson Macrae and Nick Vlastin.
- pick 45/65: Sean Lynch & Corey Chalmers (WA u18’s) Mitch Woofinden (Port VFL), Kane Mitchell (WA),
PSD:
3-small fwds
Free agent: Shannon Byrnes (Cats),
Trade for: Matthew Jaensch (crows … Petterd to Suns, Jolly to Crows, Jaensch to Dees)
Draft: Dayle Gartlett (WA pick #13), Chris Yarran (WA, pick 45 ish)
PSD: Jared Moore (swans PSD), Callum Bartlett (lions PSD),
4-tall fwds
Mini draft: Jesse Hogan (GWS get #3, and we get Hogan and their 3rd rd pick 43)
Free agent / Trade for: Shaun Mckernan (Crows), Aaron Cornelius (lions), Quinten Lynch (eagles)
Draft: Mason Shaw (WA pick 13), Kristian Jaksch (pick 13), Tom Lee (pick 45), Khan Haretau (pick 65)
5- a half back quarterback
Free agent: Jordan Russell (Blues)
Trade for: Ben Jacobs (Port) – swap for pick 13
Draft: Sam Colquhoun (SA – pick #13), Paul Marschall (SA Centrals pick 45), Jackson Thurlow (TAS – pick 45)
We will be active. We will & shake up the list with around 10 spots available, I would aim for :
Mids x5 (incl Viney & Grundy if available), Small fwd x2, Tall fwd x2 and Half back quarterback x1
-
Koby Stevens is the exact type we need. Hard at it. Physically ready (differs from Gysberts in this regard).
Pic June 2012
I would see if we could get Koby Stevens as an out of contract player in the Pre Season draft.
Step 1 - make him the offer that he agrees to - he fits into our midfield and would be given a real chance of regular senior footy + 3 year deal at $200k per year.
Step 2 - offer around a 3rd round pick - #46 for him. West Coast would have to take this. Or swap Morton and get WC 3rd round pick #56.
-
sorry to all ... I know hindsight but all the options players were touted at or below our pick.
For 2007-2010, I agreed with Morton, Grimes, Watts, Blease, Scully, Trengove &Tapscott. Whilst they have not all worked out, they were the right choices based on performance in under 18's.
2010 #12 Jack Darling or Shaun Atley ... not Lucas Cook
2009 #11 Dan Talia, Nev Jetta , Ryan Bastinac ... not Jordan Gysberts
2008 #19 Dayne Beams , Daniel Hannebery , David Zaharakis ... not James Strauss
2007 #21 Scott Selwood was the obvious pick, not Addam Maric
This year we must get it right.
We have #3,4, 13 and 25 (Viney we hope).
The 3 picks inside the top 13 must ALL work, either as the drafted player or the trade.

Our weapons
- Nathan Jones grunt and desire for the footy
- Sam Blease’s pace and goalability
- James Frawley’s pace and half back run (we need to free him up)
- Howe’s aerial marking
- Mitch Clark fwd presence (get fit and back on track)
- Jack Grimes run and create
- Jordie Mckenzie’s lock down role
- Colin Sylvia’s class and ability to go mid/fwd
- Tapscott’s toughness
- Tommy Macdonald’s strength across the backline
Watts & Trengove class and potential
Add Jack Viney to Nathan Jones’ grunt in the middle
What we need
- A star, top 10 in the league A player capable of 30+ possessions
- CHF … big and strong
- A quarterback, to setup with elite kicking
- A pacy left footer wingman, with goal kicking ability
- A fwd crumber
- A good ruckman, agile
B: Nicolson Sellar Garland/Rivers/Dunn
Hb: (Qtrback) T McD Frawley
C: (Winger) (High possess mid) Grimes
HF: Blease (CHF) Sylvia
Fwds: (crumbing fwd) Clark Howe
R: (Ruckman) Viney Jones
Int: Tapscott, Watts, Mckenzie, Trengove

Kane Mitchell won the Sandover last night with a record number of votes. (same number as Priddis before he was finally drafted).
Would be happy to get either of Mitchell or Blackwell with a late draft selection or rookie pick
Can we shout this loud enough for AAMI MFC recruiters to here. Have watched both these guys for Claremont and they are AFL standard.
Mitchell has the endurance and 2nd efforts that we need. Blackwell's skill and ball use would be essential for our midfield.

Does not matter where he plays. His intensity has to grow 100% for me to think he is the player we all want him to be.
#1 and we use him as a drifting half back, not accountable but delivering 2- metre short passes. OMG.
Jack needs muscle and grunt ... after 4 years in the system, this is not unreasonable to expect.
I like him fwd and he has the ability to kick 2-5 goals and compliment Mitch Clark. But he lacks competitive marking, 2nd efforts and the desire to chase down opponents.
Seems with 50% desire, and no physical strength, a non-accountable half back role is the match(!!!)

Mike needs a name ... I think Dom Tyson is the target of the Tigs

Dees seemed to be linked to every out of contract player. Appears we are the bargaining chip for players managers to get a good deal done.
Wellingham would be a good get but likely we would have to give up Stef Martin plus a pick around #20-30. Not for me.
-
Jesse Hogan = MFC pick 3 trade in Mini Draft ... lock it in. Maybe we pinch back their 3rd round pick around number 43.
-
Nicho upgrade is certain. He has pace, runs with the footy and does get in for the ball. Yes I saw him (once) worry about the physical contest but he is worthy of a spot in our best 22. He needs the confidence like Blease to get the footy and "go".
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JESSE HOGAN

We will improve next year back to a 7-15 type year at a minimum. I think we will be around 12-14th, with Suns, Power, GWS and Dogs below us. This would give us a pick 5 approx, and we would target Jack Billings from Oakleigh. He is mid/fwd now, but in 2013 will be more of a midfielder. Hard at it and can deliver. has very good skills. Watch out for him in the TAC Cup GF this weekend.
Footnote - get Jesse Hogan (post number 12 in favour of).
