proven ? proven late in the season ? how was it proven? a camp7 or so months earlier ?

if this is the case I would be seething as a coaching group. absolutely seething.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean.  My understanding of the camp was to show the boys that when they think they are absolutely spent, such as in the last quarter of a game with finals on the line, that they actually can go again. This clearly didn't happen in rd 23

  2. The players did go back to the coach and two days later the coach said the camp was still on with some modifications from last year, such as a doctor being there who might be able to deal with Tysons dislocated knee cap. Some players weren't happy and spoke to the Aflpa. Their main issues were, one deconditioning, some players lost 5kgs over that 3 days, abuse and risk of injury.  The majority of players saw no advantage in the camp at all which   was proven late in the season.  Maybe the players were right to protect themselves against a FD that might be wrong. Maybe we should congratulate them for standing up??

I assume part of it is to spring it on the players so they cannot mentally prepare for it as well as they may have if they knew about it some weeks ago. Although posters on here had already commented it was happening again so maybe it was the timing that was the issue (ie just before their mandated Xmas break)?

You are really being pathetic and biased now. He has been treated very well for an average player.

Actually I'm not, and you are quite rude.  From the start I have held my self back but I won't anymore.  Jack did not come back out of shape, his time trial this year was better than last when he came 5th in the B And F. He gets on great with all the young guys. He is not a bad influence, he trains as well as 80 percent of the boys. He is not Viney. He came back with blue hair which [censored] them off.  He is not ruthless, he treats people with respect.  I don't care what any of you think, Melbourne are back in the Neeld era but with more talent so might survive it. I hope they do for the sake of the beautiful boys they have. There has been a campaign all year to crucify Jack and it has worked but it doesn't pass the pub test.  Finally 18 months of good footy and they trade him, go figure! Do you think Macca is any different to how he was at the Bulldogs? I really wish the Dees well and I'm not a Dees supportor anymore but if you are have a think about how this has happened.

It it's all over, it's sad, but Jack has had to move on and so has MFC. I wish all the haters would  remember the good times.!  It's over and he was loyal but now he plays for Port.

Also I would like to say Melbourne have handled this badly.. if you look at the Port website how they farewelled the players they traded, it's like chalk and cheese. Why didn't MFC say goodbye gracefully??  PFC put up a highlight package for or their players and wished good luck. Melbourne did nothing except criticise. Could have been better

Jack Watts needed to leave his Demons behind .

I would suggest that the Demons also needed to leave Jack Watts behind. The FD wanted it and we got the best deal we could get.

Port Adelaide was his only realistic destination. The word is that the Cats gave Jack a hard mark on his interview and, after that were not going to take him.

Life goes on ... good luck at Port - Jack.

We got the market rate. There were only 2 clubs interested, and the Cats were lukewarm. Only 2 clubs. When Jack should be entering his prime aged 26, with 150 games under his belt, only 2 clubs were interested. Yep. His market value is less than his natural talent warrants. To me thats more about Jack, and perhaps the pre Roos Dees, than about how we handled his departure.

Do you think there were actually only two clubs interested? Could it be that Jack was only interested in those two clubs?  As if he was going to go to Perth, Brisbane or the Gold Coast.  Or Carlton for that matter, after years of lack of success he wanted to go somewhere that might play finals that wasn't the other end of the country.  Stkilda had a go too.  He wasn't wanted at MFC

  8. I think the most significant thing Josh Mahoney said today was this trade was all about Jacks ONFIELD performance.  Doesn't make sense to me given the bagging he's had about preparation?? Jacks onfield for 18 months prior to injury was good.  Mixed messages if you ask me

I remember the 2016 b&f. Jack said he felt awkward on stage and he was usually in the audience  getting pizzed.

roos implored the players to choose greatness and watts returned to be dropped from the pre season games.

you remember what you want. I'll remember another in a long line of unfulfilled talent.

Why do you try to change reality.  Jack said something along the lines of 'it's taken me a long time to get up here so bear  with me' I don't recall anything about him say I'm normally in the audience getting pizzed

Now that you have claimed to be acquainted with Jack, and have since raised questions as to Todd and Jack Viney's mutual employment at the club, I'm going to go right on and conclude that these particular feelings have been expressed by Jack.

And while I was ambivalent before - even a tad sad - about Jack's potential departure (while fully supportive and understanding of the reasons for it), if he's blaming white-anting from some Viney faction for where he finds himself today, then he can good and well go.

I'm not even going to bother outlining the contribution of the Viney's toward our singular goal of success as compared to that of one Jack Watts, as the blame being leveled and swipes taken at anyone and everyone who isn't Jack Watts is getting utterly ridiculous.

Don't make assumptions , Jack has never mentioned the Vineys, I personally was asking a question . This is how fiction becomes fact

So are you saying they're trading him because he doesn't live and breathe football (i.e. a cultural misfit), JJT?

They're trading him because he doesn't fit Goodwin,  he wants tough hard players. If he could have 22 Jack vineys he would be happy .  Do any of think having Todd and Jack there is good?

I thought Goody's postmortem observation that we started to fall away as a team from Round 15 is interesting as it also coincided with Jacks loss of form and him being dropped to the VFL...

How much can a team trust and rely on a player who went missing in one of the most crucial periods for the MFC in the last 5 years?

Why did he go missing? He was injured, he had 2 bulging discs and a hammy

personally, i'd still like jack to stay, work his butt off and win back a regular spot in the side

i do however wonder if there isn't something else going on (or went on) that we don't know about. maybe, maybe not, maybe we will never know. i also can't but think it could have been handled better. seems a lot of cutting off the nose to spite the face

still we must all move on. four more days at most

He had a regular spot until  he was injured

No that wasn’t a Rocket. He was still the number one boy.

Now he is getting the rocket

now he knows he is out of luck. It’s either Hard Work or he walks away....

He will walk away because he has to.

  15. I just want to say that Jack did not come back to pre season under done, in fact he came back in the same shape as 2016 which was good, he had a great year. His 3 k time trial was his best ever, you can check it.  All his other figures were good too.  He came back with blue hair which was a mistake and put him I all the papers which [censored] off Goody.  He went to Byron on a Tuesday night, Wednesday was a day off, got back Wednesday night. Missed no rehab. He did extra sessions every week.  It's a furphy.  Jack is not like Viney, Jones or Macca, he doesn't live breath football 24/7, he is a normal person like 80 percent of the team but he loves MFC and will be sad to go but he will.  I don't know how many of you would have thought we would dream of trading Jack after round 13 this year

  16. At the start of the year, would you have proposed trading in the players above for Howe ,Toumpas and whatever minor picks are involved? Nine months on, Bugg and Kennedy have hardly played in the seniors, and Melksham has been an average player in a poor team. Howe has played every game and Toumpas has looked ordinary.

There's no possible way you can spin things to make out like we're looking to have a successful trade period. I know it's early, but nothing that looks like happening is anything to get excited about.[/quote

    I agree
